How to Get There
My husband and I had the best time celebrating Valentine's Day this past weekend. The room was clean. Room service was great. The front desk clerks were very nice. We had dinner at Ruth's Chris and it was beyond amazing.
Before Nashville was the "it" city, Loew's Vanderbilt Plaza was the sophisticated hotel with a quiet luxe feel. Nice sheets, large rooms, good light and subtly attentive service, the classic is updated, but maintains its friendly, attentive service. With a Ruth's Chris attached, and a Southern-cuisine-leaning restaurant, the Vandy is a great business hotel. Without being in the downtown fray, you're in the Vanderbilt University portion of Midtown; close to everywhere you can need, but also room to walk, think, breathe.
Friendly staff and clean large rooms right across the street from the Vanderbilt campus. Employees go out of their way to be helpful. Hotel restaurant has a good breakfast. The best place to stay if you want access to Vandy.
We were returning from a trip to Chattanooga and decided to stay at the Loews Hotel for the night before heading home. This is a rather large hotel across from Vanderbilt University and the warmth displays a large hotel setting. The front desk wasn’t busy and the agent we had was a bit inexperienced but friendly. We asked for a refrigerator as I have medicine and also requested on with a freezer for my travel ice pack. The agent stated she could send up a refrigerator, but a freezer would be $25.00. I just asked for the refrigerator and she said it would be sent up immediately. We went to our room to unpack and waited for the refrigerator and had to call after 45 minutes to repeat the request. We were a bit concerned as we needed to leave for a show and needed to get the medicine in the refrigerator.
A few minutes later housekeeping showed up with a small boxed size refrigerator. A fantastic idea for medicine as hotels must be getting smart about sending up larger refrigerators for food and beverage storage as well as storage space in the hotel.
Not sure why all hotels don’t have refrigerator built in leaving room for guest’s medicine and a drink or two and have another area for the snacks and alcohol sales.
I asked if it was possible to get a larger refrigerator with a freezer and the employee said she would bring it up no charge. We departed for the show and settled for the box sized unit until a larger one was to be delivered while we were gone.
When we exited the show, I had a text from the hotel stating they were trying to get in touch with us. I called and they asked if I still needed the refrigerator which I said yes. We were walking down the hall to our room when we noticed a hotel employee carrying a small refrigerator on his shoulder. We opened the hotel door and he set up and plugged in the unit and left. We then looked under the desk and there was a refrigerator plugged in which included a freezer while the one that was just delivered did not have a freezer. So now we have two refrigerators and the box sized medicine refrigerator in the room.
My only point here is the communication within the hotel departments was not fluid and one department didn’t know what the other was doing. This can be common for a larger hotel than a smaller hotel.
The room was nice but being on the second floor offered a view of a cement wall and nothing else. I personally would not select this hotel for pleasure travel but when our nephew graduates from medical school at Vanderbilt, it is very convenient
The experience was the best ever. Super helpful and pleasant staff. Food was delicious. Beds...oh so comfy! The common areas were fresh and clean. Bar staff was very accommodating and willing to let a small group of us just hang out.
