How to Get There
My family and I just spent a week at the Shangri-La Taipei while visiting relatives and were so impressed by the extremely high quality of service and amenities available to guests here. It truly felt like a home away from home--amazing given that it is located right in the middle of the bustling city of Taipei! The breakfast chef and his team outdid themselves with a fabulous buffet every breakfast. My girls loved the extraordinary rooftop pool and hot tub on the 43rd floor. Even the room service food was delicious, and served with pineapple cakes from the hotel's Cake Room bakery (I never got to try one since my girls would devour them as soon as they arrived).
The service was more accommodating than what we have experienced at hotels such as the Four Seasons, Intercontinental, and Grand Hyatt, and given the complexity of my family's needs (two young children and a variety of ages including my 70+ year old mother), that is saying a lot. They truly go above and beyond, and serve graciously and with a smile and a willingness to help no matter what the guest's need is (for example, I needed to use a computer in the business center at 4 AM and the overnight duty manager, Maximilien, came down himself to open the facilities, show me how to change the language on the computer to English, and offer helpful solutions for an issue I was experiencing that was unrelated to the hotel).
To cap it all off, at the last minute my extended family and I needed a special banquet arranged for 15 adults and 3 children and one of the front desk concierges, Oliver, worked tirelessly into the night to research the best location and food for our event the next day. In the end, information from outside of the hotel pointed to the hotel's own Shanghai Pavilion as offering the best food and location, with a private room with a lovely view of the city available. Their staff was kind enough to create a custom menu including special Shanghainese dishes cooked by a distinguished visiting chef from the region as well as vegetarian entrees for my family and dishes the children would happily eat--this was all arranged within an hour of the banquet start time since my family and I had a busy schedule of activities during the day. The staff decorated the room flawlessly including toys and balloons that kept the children entertained. The food was beautifully presented and truly delicious, and the service accommodating and attentive no matter the request (again, we are a very particular family and they really exceeded our expectations).
Thanks so much to the entire staff at the Shangri-La Hotel for creating an exceptional and memorable visit for me and my family, we hope to visit again soon!
The room service and housekeeping at the Shangri-La is fantastic. Lisa and team did an outstanding job of keeping my room clean and comfortable. Highly recommend the this hotel if staying in Taipei.
My only suggestion that I would like to see is the hotel update the bar and lounge. It seems a bit dated. The rooms are great except the TV’s are not HD which is now a standard in most high end hotels. Did I mention the breakfast... it’s one of the best in all the 5 star hotels that I visit in Asia.
My wife, daughter, son-in-law, and three grand kids came to Taiwan and stayed at the Shrangla La, Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in July. The staff were so kind to our whole family. They always had a high chair for our 1.5 year old grand daughter and my coffee ready at the morning breakfast buffet. Lisa and Jine were our housekeepers. They kept our rooms clean and provided us with extra fruit in our room and smiles for the kids. The hotel location was perfect with easy access to public transportation, local neighborhood shopping. The hotel food was delicious and provided us with lots of variety. The rooftop pool was a treat and the end of the day with gray views of the city.
I visited Taipei for the very first time in Feb 2018, and the Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel played a great part in making the trip an unforgettable one.
Arriving from Taoyuan International Airport, a 35-minute taxi ride cost about NT1000, which was very affordable and competitively-priced compared to other cities in the region. Upon arrival, the hotel's staff and their service was impeccable, and every effort was made to ensure that my stay was an awesome one.
The room was nicely-appointed, and I especially liked the neo-classical Chinese style that blended nicely into the very generous space. I also liked the walk-in closet space, which is large enough to store two mid-sized luggage comfortably, with plenty of space for more shopping bags. My room also had a wonderful view of the Taipei 101 tower, a stunning sight when seen through the twin floor-to-ceiling windows. My only gripe is that despite the room being so nicely decked out in soothing colours, the bathroom, with is dark tile walls, felt a little too dank and somber.
Located in Taipei's Da'an district, there isn't much to shop near the Shang, and the hotel is also quite a bit of a walk to the nearest subway station as well. While it is relatively easy to get a cab at the hotel out to town, there were a couple of nights when I could not get a cab in the crowded town areas, and had to take the subway back, then walk quite a bit through a few dark streets before reaching the hotel. Thankfully, Taipei is a very safe city.
All in all, the Shangri-La is a great stay, but do plan your trip well so as to minimise transport issues getting to and fro during your days out exploring the city.
We stayed in Plaza Suite for three nights. The room as well as the Horizon Club is so comfortable and the staffs bare very friendly. As we had informed we don't eat meat,Chan Kwok Wah ,the executive chef in Shang Palace restaurant, made special lunch for us for two times. They were also wesome and delicious!!! This is famous for Beijing duck, but seafood and vegetable dishes also are so lovely and sophisticated. The lunch in Shanghai Pavilion also was delicious and tasty. We had very happy time thanks to Elsa Peng,Angela Hung,Marlon Chuang, and many friendly staffs. We are sure to stay in this splendid hotel again and again!!!
