Modern business-friendly hotel with a pool, four restaurants and bars, and dramatic views of Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva

The Lowdown

Opened in 1964 near the United Nations building, this city sleep designed by architect Tony Chi offers dramatic views of Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva and has played host to a number of American presidents as well as countless world leaders. Fully up to date inside, the property has a Spa by Clarins, as well as several stylish restaurants and bars, including the Woods, which offers a knockout Sunday brunch. The guestrooms are sleek and airy, with white linens, blond wood furnishings and flat-screen TVs. And thanks to a lovely outdoor pool and extensive meeting facilities, the hotel is popular with both business and leisure travelers.

In the Area

The InterContinental is within walking distance of the United Nations headquarters, but it’s a 10-minute drive to the town’s historic center. Spend a day watch shopping or strolling along the lake admiring the sailboats, and then head for drinks and dinner in Carouge, a neighborhood with a village atmosphere known for its restaurants, like the retro Café des Négociants. If you have a rental car, visit La Maison Cailler, one of Switzerland’s traditional chocolate factories.

Amazing hotel

An amazing hotel. I had some slight confusion with the front desk. We arrived around noon-1pm, prior to check-in time. We were told our rooms were not available yet but we could store our luggage there until later. I pre-paid both of the rooms we had booked. However during check-in I was told I pre-paid one room and would require payment for the other room. I did not argue but I was confused and knew I would have to check my confirmation emails and credit card statement. I thought it was possible I did in fact only pay one room and not realize it. We went and had lunch at the hotel restaurant, Woods, and had an amazing lunch. Probably one of the best steaks I’ve had in my life. That was very pleasant. Upon finishing lunch we stopped at the front desk again and asked if the rooms were ready but they were not. The strange thing was that the hostess did not seem to understand we had been there an hour and a half earlier. She started to check us in, as if we had not gone through this process earlier in the day. I had to mention it several times before she understood. It should be noted all conversations were in English. They speak English well at the front desk but they did not seem to fully understand everything I said to them. The rooms were still not ready so we left. I did confirm at this second check-in that I had in fact pre-paid both rooms and I did not owe anything additional. It would be nice if they understood their billing better because I spent 30 minutes of own time trying to make sure I had in fact already paid. One nice bonus was they upgraded our second room to a suite. On to the actual hotel... very amazing room. They provide many small amenities at the room such as a toothbrush which was very nice. Great view of the city and lake, very nice room and bed. Aside from the minor issues with communicating with the front desk this is one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Our rooms included breakfast in the rate. At woods restaurant we were told we owed money for one of the breakfast but the other 2 breakfast were included in price. Again I thought I had included breakfast with rate. At check-out, it was cleared up again that I had in fact no money owe for breakfast. I don’t mean to dwell on these small issues. Truly this is a fantastic hotel and I would stay there in the future. We are an IHG reward member. If I have any recommendation to hotel it would be that they should have clearer understanding of pre-payments so as to not confuse guests.
