How to Get There
This place is paradise! The staff is so welcoming and amazing. The room is really beautiful with its own little pool (we had a second floor room), main pool area is really nice and relaxing (depending on how many kids are around 😉), the bar serves great drinks and food. The beach is right there, just a few steps from pool. Location is in a little town with shops and restaurants.
We stayed at the Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas for 4 nights in November. The hotel is a beautiful location on the beach and this marrie with the stunning jungle resort and cabins.
Upon arrival our "check in" was immaculate, no paperwork, no waiting just a welcome drink and an escort to our room, one of the amazing Lagoon Pool suites, which was a real treat.
The room itself was impeccable and the private pool, outdoor area were among the most beautiful I've been to at any resort.
The service, on the whole was excellent. Pie, in particular, looked after us very well.
The main pool area, which does look lovely in the photos, is even nicer in real life & the intertwining of restaurants and pool area gives the right balance of peace and vibrancy at this small resort.
The gym is very small but well stocked and a good use of space, more than adequate for the resort size.
The spa is delightful. A stunning jungle setting with wonderful service and a pleasant Thai massage. Just walking up the steps, you'll be 50% more relaxed.
There were a couple of things that I didn't feel quite lived up to the resorts high standards, the food at the Japanese restaurant & most breakfasts were a bit of a let down and the price of wine was almost unpalatable.
Since bringing both of these up with the manager of the resort, Yiannis went out of his way to listen, take on board and address my constructive criticisms of the resort (of which there weren't many) and I was impressed with how keen he was to really look into what I'd suggested, as opposed to saying "you had a great time at the resort, so what's the problem" as has happened at other places.
All in all, a very high recommendation, it's truly a stunning property and one which I would suggest to anyone, but in particular couples.
This hotel is quite possibly the primary reason this small bay is a star or two better than any other on Koh Phagnan. Other fine hotels are to be found nearbye but none achieve the benchmark set by Anantara at Thong Nai Pan.
The village is quaint and civilised at the end of a road which on this island means that it’s quiet. Most of not all rooms have small but big enough private pools. These would be useful if you visit during the summer months when the sea level drops significantly.
The hotel exudes quality and thought. It is clearly guest centric and the staff without exception, a delight. Allow them to lead a conversation to gauge the depth of understanding.
The Anantara is a lovely hotel that offers an array of services and facilities from which you can pick and choose with confidence. I would love to visit again and strongly recommend it.
Two minor points.
The hotel website says emphatically that if you book with them, rather than through an intermediary, you will get the lowest price. You definitely won’t if my regular reservation experience was a measure.
Don’t leave anything behind in your room when you check out.
Travelled as a couple for 8 nights in this resort. Thought the whole trip was good, but not mind blowing.
The best part of the visit was the staff, most of the staff were amazing and thoughtful.
In terms of the hotel, it was in a great location and quality was good. I’m not sure I would describe it as a 5 star hotel, as when you compare it with some newer resorts - the facilities just aren’t comparable.
Some of the pricing is also very high - it was my girlfriend’s birthday and the original price quoted was £300 (excluding drinks) for a meal for two on the beach. I don’t mind paying over the odds but this seemed rather expensive. I could eat in some of the best restaurants in the UK for this.
Good trip, but wouldn’t revisit.
We had a great time at Anantara. The staff was seriously incredible: everyone was super kind and did everything they could to make our stay unforgettable. Food and accommodations were also great of course, but the team is really what made our stay. Thank you!
