Sixty miles north of Brisbane, the Sebel Maroochydore is a 15-story modernist gem on Australia’s idyllic Sunshine Coast. Overlooking Maroochydore Beach, the property’s gleaming white exterior and secluded outdoor pool area are in perfect keeping with the 47 contemporary, light-filled guestrooms. The spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments are all equipped with gourmet kitchens, spa baths and private, furnished balconies with sea and pool views. Blessed with almost 300 days of sunshine a year, the region is perfect for outdoor activities of all kinds: surfing, fishing, golf, paddleboarding and beach cricket, to name but a few. In the evening, relax in the hot tub, sauna or steam room, and, if the mood grabs you, enjoy the perfect weather on the rooftop barbecue deck. Don’t miss the stellar seafood restaurants at nearby Sunshine Plaza or the fine beaches at Noosa and Mooloolaba. Families are well catered to: There’s a separate children’s pool and babysitting services upon request.
In the Area
In the heart of Australia’s Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore’s pristine stretch of golden sand is dotted with upscale delis, restaurants and bars. Enjoy Greek, Chinese and Lebanese cuisine on the waterfront, or browse the boutiques and bargains at nearby Sunshine Plaza. The resort is within easy reach of Noosa Beach, the region’s surf capital, Mooloolaba Beach, home to some of the best whale watching in Australia, and the Underwater World Sea Life Aquarium, where you can snorkel with sharks. In October the region plays host to Culture Shock Food Festival, with banquet lunches, music and live entertainment spanning the entire weekend.
How to Get There
Sebel 808 is a lovely spacious apartment, with everything you need included. It has every large balcony with a BBQ. It would be appreciated more in the summer months, as it is shaded from the afternoon sun.
Whilst the 1 bed apartment facing the ocean view is lovely, there’s some maintenance and cleaning issues at this price point that really should be taken care of. E.g. remote being held together by a sticker! While this was forgivable our next door neighbors partied into the wee hours of the morning with their kitchen area right next to our bedroom we didn’t get a wink of sleep. And for a pregnant woman that’s tiered, hormonal and moody, it’s just not ideal.
My partner and I booked this hotel through our Accor Advantage membership in May for an event in August 2019. We could not have wished for a better place: a single bedroom apartment on the 10th floor looking north up the coast and over the Surf Club. A terrific breeze came through the room and the balcony is the perfect size for a bbq though I can see problems if one is left out for use by guests.
The building location is fantastic and within walking distance to most of the restaurants, etc. The service provided by the staff during our stay terrific. While we didn't use any of the building facilities outside the room during the stay, we briefly looked over them and decided the hotel would be great next time we venture to Maroochydore.
I made an error with the booking and the receptionist was most helpful in providing the additional night's accommodation.
Our problem started after we checked out. The reason for this review taking a turn is the above mentioned terrific service disappeared after check out on 26 August 19. I have phoned the reception twice and sent an email to the hotel.
During packing, we left 2 crystals worth approximately $300 in the bed. On our arrival in Brisbane that night I phoned the hotel at 20:35hrs; following the receptionist checking with housekeeping, I was advised the room hadn't been cleaned and she would check in the morning and get back to me.
As I hadn't heard from the hotel and was flying out at lunchtime on 27 August, I phoned again mid-morning only to be told another client was in the room and the matter would be followed up at their earliest convenience. I hadn't heard anything until I was cc'd into an email from Accor Plus Member Services dated 12 Sept; this included my email dated 04 September.
As Helen and I have been loyal members to both the Accor Plus and Sebel brands in both Australia and overseas, we have been very disappointed in the service provided post our Maroochydore stay. As a person with experience in high quality customer service, this is causing us to re-consider the value of our business.
As we were more than happy with the property, I won't let the above matter lower the overall rating. However I hope other people don't have the same problem as we did.
