Upscale Jersey Shore retreat with two restaurants, a roof deck and 37 guestrooms in the heart of Stone Harbor
The interiors at the Reeds at Shelter Haven reflect the hues of the beach and ocean just beyond the doorstep. The lobby is decked out in tranquil blues, sand-tone marble and Midcentury Modern furnishings, while the sleek light fixtures and fireplace give off a sense of warmth.
Bed and Bath
Each of the 37 guestrooms is clean and comfortable, with blond wood headboards, blue or taupe accent walls and simple shell details throughout. WiFi, Keurig cofeemakers and iPhone (5!) docking stations come standard in each room. The uber-comfy beds are decked out in Frette linens, and the white subway-tile bathrooms are outfitted with chrome fixtures, Malin + Goetz amenities and marble-clad sinks.
Despite having only 37 rooms, the Reeds at Shelter Haven has the all amenities you’d expect of a large-scale resort, with free paddleboarding and yoga, two restaurants, a bar, and a small rooftop with a plunge pool and hot tubs. The roof deck is nice, but you’re better off taking advantage of the hotel’s included beach service: You can coordinate golf cart drop-off and beach chair setup on Stone Harbor’s sandy shores, just two blocks from the hotel. But the Reeds’ crown jewel is the Water Star Grille, an umbrella- and twinkle light–filled alfresco restaurant with spectacular views of the boats and upscale homes fronting Shelter Haven Bay. Come winter, the indoor restaurant Sax seats up to 64 and serves equally delectable New American cuisine.
In the Area
No trip to Stone Harbor would be complete without sampling the crab cakes from Back Bay Seafood, a hole-in-the-wall takeout spot 15 minutes north of the hotel on foot. Stay closer to home with dinner at Quahog's Seafood Shack or the hip new taco spot next door. Satisfy your sweet tooth with an ice cream cone from Springer's Homemade Ice Cream or Nutella latté (made with La Colombe coffee) at Café Noir. Stroll along Stone Harbor's 96th Street, which is lined with shops, boutiques and cafés, just beyond the hotel's doorstep. Directly across from the hotel, Fred's Tavern & Liquor Store is a favorite for lunch, liquor shopping (there's a store in the back), or partying like a local into the wee hours.
