Overview

A boutique waterside stay in a peaceful area of Stockholm, with daily breakfast and a dinner option

The Lowdown

There are two things that Scandinavian style powerhouse Stockholm does very well; one is effortlessly understated cool and the other is water. Made up of 14 islands connected by no less than 57 bridges, you’ll be seeing plenty of both during your stay at the Villa Kallhagan, which can be found nestled on the tranquil canal-side of pretty Djurgarden. Whilst this boutique hotel lies a mere ten minutes from the energetic throb of the central city, a stay here feels rooted in much slower pace of life. Getting away from it all is more than possible here – in fact, it’s mandatory.
Because relaxation is very much at the forefront of Villa Kallhagan’s agenda. A soothing natural environment of abundant nature and wildlife is reflected in the hotel’s design choices; rooms boast elegant colour schemes and large skylights that allow all that fabulous Swedish light to flood in. A well-regarded restaurant and thoughtful touches, like pampering Molton Brown bathroom products and a complimentary minibar, complete the indulgent experience.

Peaceful location near Skansen
Reviewed 14 hours ago

The location of the hotel is really peaceful, a bit outside the inner city but within a walking distance from Skansen (and the Wasa museum, the Nordic museum, Gröna Lund etc.). Just next to the hotel you can find some museums, too (like the maritime museum). On the other hand, if your main targets in Stockholm are the old town and some shopping, the location is a bit too far away, maybe - but in a big city you can't have everything...

As the hotel is outside the crowded inner city streets it's also quite straightforward to arrive by car (unless your navigator chooses the shortest route through the city center...). One of the major ferry terminals, Värtahamnen (used by Silja Line, for example), is a short and easy drive away. There are free parking slots in front of the hotel, even though not too many...

The hotel itself has a quite classy feeling. I was a bit surprised to learn that it's actually quite new. Not to say that it's worn, but interiors had a bit 1970's feeling, in a good way. The room was clean and I was especially happy with the natural light flooding into the bathroom! Some ducks were walking on the grass just behind the window to the amusement of our daughter. The extra bed wasn't ideal for a kid though - to prevent her falling at night we had to pile all kind of stuff around the bed... Chairs, extra pillows etc. Air condition was easy to adjust, but TV had really blurry image.

Breakfast was nice. Maybe I expected a bit more selection for this price, though.

Nice boutique hotel

Great location, 5 minute drive from downtown but on a quiet, scenic waterway. Room was not overly large but clean, quiet and comfortable. We didn’t use the restaurants but they appeared really nice and bright, large windows open to the gardens and river behind the hotel.

Nice location on Djurgården

This time we were only stopping by for a drink. The hotel, restaurant and the bar is very Nice situated close to the water. It is not a very cozy atmosphere but still pleasant. Service is ok but not excellent.
Worth a visit for the location. Have a nice 20 min walk from the city.

Cozy and great service.

Very nice location by the water close to the city-center. Excellent food in the restaurant with great service and good breakfast buffé. Tasty drinks at the bar and great service from a charming bartender. The overall interior design is well thought out and of high standard.
My only comment is on the hotel rooms; They look great and are well designed, but...the paint was chipped on the doorframe, the plastic on the showerhead was a bit broken and there was some lime-deposition behind the faucet, which didnt really matter but it brings down that feeling of luxury that they strive for.

Holiday in Stockholm
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We decided for a couple of days of vacation in Stockholm and our choice of hotel became Villa Källhagen.
The location of the hotel is absolutely fantastic with proximity to the beautiful Swedish nature, the ease of getting to the city center and other attractions.
The staff is incredibly helpful and srvice oriented, we got help with all the questions we had.
We were lucky enough to have a room with a terrace facing the garden and the water, where you can enjoy morning sun and a nice cup of coffee.
