Dating from 1968, the Hotel Diplomat is a classic example of Jugend architecture. Its imperial exterior, burnt orange awnings and wrought iron balconies make quite a statement on Strandvägen. Inside, the marble staircase has burnished gold railings and wraps around an old (but working) elevator shaft. Artwork from the Malmström family, which owns the hotel, is spread across six floors, and fireplaces (only one is still in use), bookcases and tables with tea sets make it reminiscent of an inviting library or parlor.
Bed & Bath
With over-sized windows, crown moldings, custom-made Portuguese linens and Juliet balconies, the 130 guestrooms feel more like mini European apartments than hotel rooms. Views vary from room to room, but the best vista fronts Strandvägen, where Stockholm’s renowned sights, including the Royal Palace and Nybroviken Bay, are on display. Some bathrooms are swathed head to toe in marble, with towel warmers (a must in Stockholm winters), and offer sumptuous white bathrobes, a separate shower and tub, and L’Occitane products.
On the first floor, Hotel Diplomat’s T/Bar has a Scandinavian brasserie vibe, serving daily buffet breakfast and to-die-for steak sandwiches and hamburgers during lunch and dinner. The intimate Cocktail Bar is open only September through April, but it’s a favorite with locals. The Jacuzzi and sauna are free for guests (one hour per day, per guest) but must be reserved at the front desk; the helpful concierge can assist in booking massages.
How to Get There
After working in Helsinki i decided to take my mom for a few days in Stockholm. I heard about Hotel Diplomat and decided to book my stay here. I'm very happy i did! What a beautiful hotel and great location by the water in Stockholm. Was greeted already when our driver stopped outside the hotel by a young and service minded porter. Front desk was very nice and we had lovely rooms. The restaurant is warm and cozy with great food. We had massage in a private room where you also can book sauna.
Since we have never been in Stockholm before we used the concierge for recommendations. Andreas assisted us in the most helpful way and we loved the city after our visit. We stayed at another hotel our last night but even from here he arranged a private driver for us to make sure we was taken care of. Me and my mom could not have had a better stay. Regards Mindy
Stayed at this hotel for business matters and a few days in private. Good service by check in and assistance with my luggage. My room was a junior suite that i truly liked and had a great view over the water. Restaurant was ok service and great quality of food.
What made this excellent for me and my time was the concierge. Andreas is unique in service and knowledge. I have stayed at 5 star hotels all over the world and i can tell when someone stands out. I can honestly say this is the best concierge i have ever meet. He fixed everything for me. Always fast to respond and with a warm and friendly approach. He even used whatsapp to make sure i had everything outside the hotel i needed. 5 star and i will be back , Regards Jonathan
One of the best Hotels I have stayed in. Very comfortable room, amazing service and very professional staff, specially Andreas (concierge) was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Thank you for a perfect stay.
