We love returning to Cromlix and always regret leaving.
Cannot wait till we go back.
Im not one for writing reviews.. this is in fact my first one but this I felt had to be shared.
We visited Cromlix last week for afternoon tea after waiting for months to somehow manage to get booked in to use up a voucher. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the normal 5* standard you would normally get elsewhere in similar establishments.
We were seated by the door, the fire wasn't on and the room had a rather cold draft blowing through from outside - unfortunately we gave our jackets away before we were seated.
The tea still had leaves in stewing but we weren't equipped or given a tea strainer.
The savoury slate was okay - the sandwiches were a bit stale but the bon bons and sablé's were lovely.
For the sweet stand.. the scones were nice, still warm and tasted good.
Unfortunately some of the cakes still had parchment wrapping attatched to the sides (see photo) they didn't feel homemade either and were quite dry.
As for the small patisseries on the top tier, I was most disappointed - the passionfruit tart was soggy (perhaps a day old) and lacked imagination for garnish.
The caramel gateaux was made using a burnt caramel somewhere in the mix - not nice to eat and again garnish lacked imagination with broken bits of pink and white chocolate.
The small raspberry delice squares with red currants ontop.. hardly a delectable delight - sorry.
Our waitress lingered awkwardly waiting for us to clearly leave towards the end. We weren't made to feel very welcome.
We came here hoping to be surprised and delighted with some nice wee treats but unfortunately we left disappointed.
I enjoyed a truly memorable lunch in the restaurant at Cromlix. The attention to detail from the time we entered the hotel until we departed 3 hours later was special. The staff were first class, friendly, attentive and helpful at all times. The food choice was excellent and the combination of tastes were delicious. When you eat this level of cooking price is never a consideration. I do hope to return.
