Family-friendly condos at the base of Mount Werner, close to Steamboat Springs’ shops, restaurants and main gondola
At the base of Mount Werner, the Lodge at Steamboat is a long-stay and group-friendly option just a five-minute walk (or free shuttle ride) to the main gondola. All of the units are individually designed, but show off a classic mountain style in heavy stone and acres of wood, plus ski- and nature-themed artwork and fabrics in russet shades. Bedrooms have wood frame king, queen, double or bunk beds, working fireplaces and balconies or patios. Bathrooms are uniformly spacious, with standalone or over-tub showers. While there’s no restaurant, all of the accommodations have full kitchens with refrigerators, ovens and stovetops, and all the essential equipment. The Great Room is an open meeting point in the clubhouse for free coffee and donuts each morning, or post-slope downtime with views across the Steamboat community, and there’s also a heated outdoor swimming pool and muscle-soothing hot tubs.
In the Area
The lodge is just a few minutes by shuttle from the gondola and Steamboat’s fabulous terrain. The mountain is known for its champagne powder and massive snowfall, totaling about 15 feet each year. The resort is also known for some of the best tree skiing in the U.S. and a season that stretches into late spring. In summer, Steamboat attracts serious whitewater paddlers, anglers, mountain bikers and trail runners. For a meal try Café Diva, a charming bistro at the base of the mountain that offers such seasonal fare as tenderloin with brandy-mushroom sauce, spring peas and spaetzle. The Lodge is about three miles from Steamboat Springs’ historic main street, Lincoln Avenue (which was built extra-wide back in the 1800s to accommodate cattle drives through town), where you’ll find one of two hot springs resorts. Try Mahogany Ridge Brewery for American fare, craft brews and live music. For breakfast, don’t skip the eggs benedict and giant cinnamon rolls at local favorite Winona’s Restaurant & Bakery.
