Belmond Hotel das Cataratas
What We Love
- The rate includes buffet breakfast
- Staying in the only hotel within Iguaçu National Park — you’ll have it to yourself for hours before the gates open to visitors (but it should be noted that it costs $52.20 for non-Brazilians to enter the park — a fee which isn't included in the daily rate)
- The pool is an unknowingly kitsch spot in the jungle
- The retro-tropical style: pink and peppermint shades under whirring ceiling fans make you feel like part of a 1950s novel
- Staff knows the best time, weather and ways to see every park sight, whether you’re a hard-core hiker or just taking the shuttle bus
What To Know
- There is an optional city and cultural fee of $2.44 per room, per day that you may pay at check-in at the hotel
- The hotel was renovated in 2010
- Everything about this place revolves around the falls; if you merely want a Brazil break with a pool, this isn’t for you
- Superior Rooms are a compact 258 square feet
- There are two dining choices: a "Gaucho" style barbecue Restaurante Ipê and Brazilian-International fusion dishes at Itaipu
- Cancellation is advised 72 hours prior to arrival
- Room bookings are limited to nine per guest
- Free WiFi

How to Get There
The only hotel within the National Park on the Brazilian side of the falls (at the start of the trail). Most importantly, by staying here you are able to access the falls before the tour buses arrive (9AM). The restaurant was incredible for dinner (had the Ribeye, Amazonian fish) and breakfast (buffet). Comfortable room (king bed), excellent local soap. Very attentive service. Worth the price for at least one night.
This hotel is part of the Belmond Group, formerly Orient Express. We expected something extra special and it delivered. The location is perfect, inside the national park and very close to the falls (on the Brazilian side). This allows easy access to the trail and the best views but also, as it is the only hotel inside the park on the Brazilian side, an opportunity to visit without the crowds, before the park opens.
We visited in the low season (June 2018). The hotel is very comfortable, with a log fire in the lounge to help battle the cold weather outside and spacious lobby and sitting areas downstairs.
The pink exterior paint and the flora and fauna-themed internal decor was slightly unexpected but actually complements the hotel’s environment perfectly.
Staff were incredibly helpful, the bellboys, reception, concierge, housekeeping and bar/restaurant staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Food generally of a high standard. Very good choice at breakfast and staff very happy to accommodate specific requests. Dinner menu was good although, to be picky, some daily variety would have been welcomed and consistent with a hotel of this level. Good chooce of wine at reasonable prices.
We enjoyed drinks in the lounge and in the games room, with very good service.
As a family of four we had two interconnecting rooms. They were very comfortable and had everything we needed. The only improvement we could identify was to supply tea and coffee making facilities.
Key to our 5 star rating was that we felt like we were coming home as we stepped back into the hotel, which is not something we are able to say often.
We debated where to stay while visiting Iguassu - we are so glad we finally decided upon the Belmond. The location is of course ideal with access to the falls before and after the park gates close. The views of course are spectacular and the bird life around the hotel is fascinating. The hotel is very welcoming and the service exceptional. We enjoyed sunset drinks each evening, morning tea and supper on a couple of evenings in the bar, sitting out on the verandah. One of the younger waiters was particularly attentive. Breakfast was superb - probably the best during our month in South America and one waiter in particular, Claudiano made sure we were well looked after. The only weak link was dinner in the Itaipu restaurant where the food was good but the service was not up to a fine dining standard and was too intrusive.
A wonderful Place to stay in Iguassú, apart from the spectacular view! Efficient and very courteous staff! The Itaipu restaurant with an excellent menu! Really an unforgettable stay ❤️
