Monaci Delle Terre Nere Country Boutique Hotel: Heaven on Earth

We visited Monaci Delle Terre Nere during our trip in Sicily and stayed there for three wonderful nights. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us for a complimentary fruit drink overlooking the infinity pool and the gorgeous view. We decided to stay longer and have a late lunch which was delicious. This 19th-century hotel is set on a 40- acre organic farm at the base of Mt. Etna. Initially we were given a room that was close to the main building but we did not like. We later learned that it was actually part of a stable that was converted into a hotel room! We opted to upgrade our room for 40 more euros. I am glad that we did. Our new cottage room overlooked the vineyards and the beautiful Mediterranean sea. Every morning when I woke up and opened the door, I smelled Jasmine and Lavender. There was actually a huge jasmine shrub next to the door of our cottage room. Then we went to have our breakfast which was served outdoor in a buffet style with lots of fresh goodies. One buffet had a cornucopia of fresh fruit and vegetables. One of my favorites was red prickly pears that were nicely peeled and ready to be eaten. The other buffet had all the hot food including delicious scrambled eggs from chicken raised on the farm as well as scrumptious pastry that I did not have any room in my stomach to sample. We went on day trips which included taking the cable car to Mt Etna and visiting beautiful Taormina. We decided to have dinner every night at the hotel restaurant famous for slow cooking. My favorite night was the Pizza night where I had the most delicious pizza in Sicily and as a matter of fact anywhere in the world. In summary, I highly recommend this place and I would go there again in a heart beat the next time I have an opportunity to do so.

Service above and beyond.

The hotel is beautiful. A beautiful venue for breakfast, a different one for lunch, and still different one for dinner. All incredibly special. Best of all, the service is exceptional. We left small item at the hotel and they had it forwarded to our next hotel almost an hour away the next day and couldn’t have been nicer about the extra service. You won’t be disappointed.

Beauty and Elegance

I recommend a stay at Monaci delle Terre Nere during your visit to Sicily. Located on the slopes of Mt. Etna and with sweeping views of the Mediterranean you can't go wrong at this lovely boutique hotel. The breakfast buffet and lunch are served outside. For dinner you have the choice of dining under the stars or indoors. The food is pleasing to eye and palate and cooking and presentation encourage slow dining. The rooms are beautifully appointed and some include lava stone walls. A swim in the infinity pool is not to be missed.
