How to Get There
We had a lovely time at the resort. The couple spa that we were booked in for took the holiday absolutely up a notch. The food was great, not to mention the truly lovely menu. The staff was way too courteous. Tucked away in Wolgan Valley, the resort is just perfect for a retreat or a "staycation".
I wanted to book Wolgan Valley as a romantic getaway and our experience was wonderful.
Arriving was different, you leave your car on the outskirts and there is many spaces for covered parking but it was fine. You get driven in to the resort and there is just soo much wildlife (Roos and wombats) that you can't help but gush.
Check in was easy and seamless. I did find the Wolgan Weekly helpful as it had "your" itinerary and an activities schedule if you were inclined. Similar to those you'd might find on cruises.
Room was awesome. The layout was large but still cozy. The fireplace and heated private pool for June felt incredibly decadent. Although I wish the pool was heated even more for Winter. I did find the bathroom section super cold even though I could see the underfloor vents.
We did inclusive activities only, as I was expecting. But it was lovely to meet the horses at the stable. I wish we stayed longer so I could use the provided bicycles more. There was so much to do and choose from, it would be up to you if you wanted to just sit back and watch the roos go around your villa. Just watch out for them in the evening. We had a bit of surprise when we got to our door and one was literally right out front hidden by darkness :)
Depending where you are in the resort, in the winter evening, the golf cart drive back to our villa was helpful as it was freezing! It's nice that most of the things in the mini bar are inclusive. Breakfast and lunch was fantastic. Dinner was ok. I'm not sure if its because we chose the degustation menu (inclusive) but they were very small even for degustation size and the wait in-between was a tad long.
Villa 39 was quite private in comparison to others and I loved how so many roos just planted themselves just at the back for our enjoyment. Alice and the team were lovely and helpful. I would love to come back.
If you are looking for a get away to unwind, relax, reconnect, indulge a little and be part of the wilderness. This is your perfect getaway.this was a wedding anniversary escape and we can thoroughly recommend this special part of the world.
If you are thinking about going but are wondering if it’s worth the price, stop now. It is 100% worth it. My wife, 8 month old son, and I spent 3 magical days there in September.
First the only downside: since it’s in the middle of nowhere and staff live on site, many of them are very young/inexperienced. It wasn’t an issue at all for us, but I could see how it could be annoying if you are expecting something different.
The location is amazing, the food and drink are fantastic, but the thing that makes this place special is the staff. Anthony, Maggie, Katie, Simon, and Imogen in particular were standouts but they were all lovely. They were also very baby friendly, and the baby sitting staff were excellent (especially Maggie).
This is hands down the best place We’ve ever stayed. We will be back!
My husband and I have had the blue mountains on our to do list for a little while and chose the One and Only resort to celebrate his birthday. I did have high expectations of the property and they did not let down. What a magical experience!
Set remote to the typical tourist spots we drove into the resort, and wondered a bit if we were lost. We were not. We entered the gates, parked and were whisked away to the lodge style lobby with a warm fireplace and back drop of the mountains. The property is surrounded by kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and of course the blue mountains. There were great activities to do. I recommend checking out the full list and booking in advance to take advantage of adventures on offer. We took our daughters age 4 and 2 who had a great time but we didn’t get a chance to hike. However anyone we spoke to said their highlight was the glow worm tunnel hike. Our girls enjoyed their heated pool and a private horse riding session and feeding. The horses are very calm and great with the children. My husband and I really enjoyed our own trail ride and got to see two kangaroos boxing! So amazing!
Another thing I would recommend if you have small children is reserving the private dining room for a dinner or two. My daughter was beside herself. Mummy! We are in Belle’s dining room (Disney’s Beauty and The Beast) the ambience was special and we were comfortable to let our girls just be and have fun without worrying about disturbing others or ourselves. Although if you are in the dining area there is a room dedicated to Children with some toys and a Projector.
A big big thank you to Ally for the most perfect misty morning trail ride, Annalise for changing shifts to look after my girls and helping with the balloons, to Maggie who drove 1.5 hours to get the balloons and Jackson who even brought me my extra hot skinny late to the villa in the rain with a smile. Yes it was still extra hot! Staff were absolutely wonderful, happy, attentive and seemed to genuinely care about our stay and the surroundings. Thank you to Ben who gave us quick 101 on the kangaroos vs wallabies. Now I’m a pro at recognising them.
Overall we have stayed at a few luxurious properties around the world but this had something magical. The ambience was incredible even though it rained every day. To see the clouds settle into the mountains and little joeys and Roos eating whilst having a shower.. was just incredible. For anyone wanting to see Australia.. this is the place to do it.
I can now say that a home amongst the gumtrees with a verandah out the back and an old rocking chair (Aussie’s you get me) is my perfect dream. Yes you get all of that included in your private villa.
Go on.. book it!
