Nestled among olive groves in Vounaria, Greece, the five-star Camvillia Resort is an oasis that lies on the stunning Messinian Gulf, with views of the Taygetos mountain range. Only 400 metres from the crystal blue waters of Peroulia Beach, this boutique gem is the ultimate destination for switching off beneath the sun and transforming yourself into a Greek god or goddess by the pool, at the spa, and beyond. It’s no wonder Camvillia snagged a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Modern and relaxed, this is a comfortable base to soak up Greece’s charming old-world character. Rooms are bright and airy, with plenty of thoughtful flourishes and a calming Grecian decor. Take a dip in the beautiful infinity swimming pool, relax on a sun lounger with a book, enjoy a rejuvenating massage at the spa, and simply drink in the natural wonder all around you.
If you choose to add on car hire, launch off to the nearby picturesque seaside village of Koroni for the day, and be sure to order some fresh fish at one of the waterside tavernas.
How to Get There
Summary: small boutique hotel, exceptional service, good food, lovely local beaches and nearby sea-side towns to explore. If you want an easy super-relaxing break this is it.
1st time experience of a beach holiday in a boutique hotel, wondered why we hadn't done it before! 40mins drive from Kalamata airport in the small village of Vounaria, hotel is relatively small, perched on a hill above Peroulia beach. Staff genuinely couldn't do enough to help. We booked via secret escapes, free room upgrade to a swim up pool room. Essentially you share a pool between 6 other rooms. Infinity pool located at restaurant and bar area is beautiful. Food was much better than I had expected, same as decent local restaurant back home. Beach is 5min drive away or 20min walk. Given the heat we used the free shuttle service down to the beach, which was just as good as some of the beaches we have been to in the Caribbean (Reserved sun loungers and staff who will bring you drinks is a nice touch).
Local seaside town Koroni has lots of great seafood restaurants if you fancy a change from the hotel (15min drive). Recommend the sailing day €70pp with Cliff and team.
Only negatives would be slow internet (1-2Mbps in our room), no cold water (is so hot in the outside pipes in summer, even the cold water comes out at 26oC) and hotel is quite particular that you tell them up front which meals you want as your half board. But these did not detract from a very enjoyable week.
We travelled as a family (kids... 14&20 yrs). Great welcome on arrival with cases whisked away and car parked up for us. Then a welcome drink on the terrace with its elevated magnificent views over the Messinia Gulf.
The hotel is only has 48 rooms so is peaceful, the pool is normally quiet as other guest were on trips or on the 'Peroulia' beach just below the hotel (thanks Jerry for the air-conditioned shuttle runs and the humour and chats).
Breakfast is a pleasure in the morning with lots of fresh local produce (fruit yogurt, fresh OJ etc), the coffee is good and served to the table, a range of hot dished are available with an egg station for omelettes etc. Great idea to have the restaurant on the top of the hotel to maximise the views and the sea breeze, last orders are at 11am.
The hotel is modern with authentic touches it is immaculate as it is cleaned all day.
We were on half board it was very relaxing to have pre-diner drink in the bar (thanks George) and then go up to the restaurant. The dishes are freshly produced from the best local ingredients we really enjoyed the octopus, ribeye steak and sea bass. The local Peloponnese wines were great Jasmine was very knowledgeable we found our favourite was the Fume Chardonnay 'Papaionnou Estate'. Service was excellent and very friendly (thanks Pantelis).
Highly recommend visiting the magical waterfall at Polyimnio you must jump in on a hot afternoon it will make you heart race!
We all had a fabulous time at Camvilla, the surround area's is very natural and unspoilt go before it becomes too commercial!
Three days in a lovely hotel in a splendid location.
We were hapilly surprised, the personell is excellent, rooms and facilities very good.
Very good Greek cuisine and breakfast.
A fine sandy beech is closeby.
