How to Get There
Very contemporary, beautiful, interesting, architecturally "outside of the box" (pun intended!!). Or, should we say "boxes"? The hotel appears to be literally built out of boxes, because I guess it is. Check in was to the right; piano bar to the left.
The hotel has 34 rooms, including 4 suites with terraces like we had. Before meeting friends for dinner that night, we lounged on our terrace with a half bottle of Cava and a little plate of thin stick chocolates.
In the morning, we had a complimentary breakfast. The "offerings" were fruit (watermelon, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe), cereals, toast and bread, croissants, sweet breads, cooked to order eggs and Spanish jamon.
Following the good comments, we booked for one night planning on enjoying this moment in La Rioja and this Hotel. This was wrong.
The rooms are minimalist and missing a few items such as complimentary water, kettle... Also the king bed is actually two double bed combined together which make not very pleasant to stay in the middle of the bed. Nonetheless, the outside design and the inside restaurant and Bar are beautiful and very pleasant.
Now for my major issue, I will say it is the restaurant: we stayed for dinner at the restaurant and took the tasting menu. What a mistake! Out of the 6 course menu, we were able to enjoy only 2 dishes. Let's put apart the appetiser which is more like a small bite, the octopus was quite good and tasty, reflecting the region flavours and then it started to be very disappointing, the tuna was vey dry and slightly overcooked and the pork a total disaster (overcooked, over salty, unbalanced flavours in the plate), gave us the feeling the chef was in hurry or not happy to be cooking and the dessert was just average.
The service team seemed overwhelmed, however the maitre d'hotel (I believe was his role) made the best effort to make our experience the best. But the waiters need to be trained on how to explain the dishes and how to drop them on the table and not throwing them instead. A big thank you to the bartender, who was always smiling and very helpful.
This is only my opinion and I hope we have been very unlucky, but from my point of view such Hotel should pay extra attention to the restaurant and the quality of food offered but also the service.
Hotel is very modern. The best thing about this hotel is the breakfast. The selection is not huge but everything was high quality. You can have fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh made eggs and a buffet of goodies. Coffee is really good too. They also gave us complimentary drink at the wine shop next door. Located in a small town. Nothing was open except for the hotel and wine shop when we were there. Would recommend it if you are looking for a hotel in the area.
My friend and I liked the outside of this hotel. However, the inside was not impressive. If you are into industrial looking rooms with dimly lit rooms with floors that hides dirt, and no privacy (there’s no coverage for the shower room (this is the perfect place). When you shower, the curtains must be down and unless you are a couple, when one person showers the other has the stay still on the bed. I expected modern to be brightly lit. The floors were not spotless but the gray concrete covers a lot of dirt and the sofa doesn’t look clean-I’m not sure if that’s intentional. The major reason I’m giving it a 1 is not the decor. When we checked in, we asked about the wine tour and the lady at the front desk verified what we read from the website, just come 15 minutes before the tour. The next morning after breakfast, we went to the front desk and there wasn’t a group of people and the guy said the group left about an hour earlier. I can understand if there’s not enough people, then the front desk should’ve said it depends on the amount of people. Up to now, I’m still upset, as a hotel, the answer should’ve been the same. If we needed to book a tour, this should’ve been done when we asked and if no prior booking is needed, then we should’ve been told a specific time to be by the front desk. None of the people at the front desk were friendly either. I do want to point out that the restaurant is excellent though but the rating is solely for the hotel itself.
Tucked away in a small village this is difficult to find but worth the effort. stunning architecture and fit out, nice service, good bar, great restaurant. Good jumping off point for many wineries too.
