How to Get There
This was a most fantastic surprise in the first stop on my 60th birthday journey. Greeted and driven up in a buggy from the car park to find the most stunning room. We had a massive Jacuzzi in a tower inside our room at least 1.5 metres deep, the bathroom and shower room with his and hers sinks was massive. Our bedroom was so vast with table and chairs and walk around king size bed. This is the most romantic setting ever. The on site restaurant was Michelin star and I will do a separate review as it was unbelievable food.
We were at the Relais in the beginning of November, typical off season. We were nearly the only ones at the hotel, what we kind of enjoyed especially at the very silent spa area. We absolutely loved the wellness area, the look and feeling of the whole place, the spacious rooms, it was just really calming and a great time out from busy times at home.
There are a few points that unfortunately kind of squeezed our great experience:
- service could be definitely improved, it just was no “welcoming” mood. They were friendly but just as said, not too much.
- as the hotel was not crowded, there was no breakfast buffet anymore for guests offered during off season... BUT: we asked for some eggs as we do not eat super sweet in the morning usually and it was absolutely no issue for them- they brought us immediately some great scrambled eggs... just don’t be surprised if you are not offered a buffet during off season
- some English speaking tv programs would have been great (not necessary, but would have been a nice add on)
A magical setting up in the hills an hour from Naples,
Staff were friendly and helpful, even with very little English.
The whole place has it's own special charm not withstanding it's First Dates fame.
Very quiet when we were there suited us.
Pool could do with some maintenance (leaves etc) and some areas look a little neglected.
Great cocktails and food in the bar/bistro area (although service a little slow - maybe as it was so quiet)
Wouldn't allow our 17 month old in the indoor pool as was part of the spa (very disappointing).
We got the train there and were collected in a (small) staff car. Dropped back off in town following day in a (dirty) works car.
Found out all trains were cancelled and the hotel arranged a driver for us for €120 back to the airport.
I normally would not write a one star review but in this case, the management need to know. My partner and I stayed here for one night. As it was our last night of our holiday in Italy, we thought we would splash out a little and treat ourselves. We had to leave by 7am to ensure we got to Naples airport in time.
When we woke to at 6am to get showered, washed etc the water was far too hot to use. We got in touch with the guy on the desk and got a bottle of water so we could at least brush out teeth. There were no other options to wash/shower so had to leave the hotel without washing. Not impressed at all and no one to speak to at that time in the morning.
I got in touch with the hotel via email after a few attempts and it just went backwards and forwards a few times with them not answering it. Eventually they came back and said there was a problem and said they would give us a free nights stay. This does not help us as we live in England and it would cost £300-£400 just to get there. I have asked for a refund (3 times) and they now have just completely ignored me.
I do not expect this from a hotel that I thought was high quality. You should not treat customers like this. I have paid for a room and should be able to wash as part of our stay. You have not provided the full service but you are more than happy to take my money and then ignore me!!!
We stayed here for 4 nights after a weekend in Rome. It's about a 2/2.5 hour drive from Rome. However the trip here is definitely worth it. The resort is a truly beautiful, relaxing place with restored but modern buildings, set in 60 acres of woods and olive trees. The swimming pool and terrace areas are very well maintained and there are plenty of loungers and spaces to relax.
We stayed in a superior room and to be honest we felt it was a little short of the special touches you might expect in a place like this. It was quite simply furnished but the bed itself was very comfortable. There were a couple of minor annoyances though. There were only four hangers in the wardrobe between 2 of us. It was not obvious that any complimentary water was provided although we realised eventually it was. The shower was poor and it was difficult to get in a position where it kept working. It did not grip its stand without sinking.
On the plus side the restaurant is exceptional! We have been fortunate enough to eat in a few Michelin starred restaurants but this one is as good as any of them. Francesca the restaurant manager is absolutely awesome and a fountain of knowledge about the local food and wine. Her wine matching ability for the dinner menu was outstanding. The service all round is perfect. Thoroughly recommended!!! The breakfasts were good as well we thought.
Overall a great experience and I'm sure we will come back.
