How to Get There
Good things: We came to relax as a family. We paid extra for the lakeside rooms with views of the Taal volcano. The room was really big and the view was very nice. The room was excellent, but sadly, it didnt have a bath -much to my wifes disappointment.
The main hotel area is lovely, as is the restaurant and coffee shop. The coffee and cakes were perfect. They have live music in the evenings too. Spa is nice, but expensive. Pool is good, but boring for kids. Buffet breakfast was huge and tasty. All the food I ate was really nice.
Bad things: easily the priciest hotel in the area. No bath in our room. The patio doors are really thin. During the windy and rainy weather at night, you can hear the wind howling in your room and it shakes the hell out of the patio door -this will constantly wake you up if you're are unlucky enough to have bad weather during your stay.
The games room is awful. It did have a good billiards/pool table, but that is it. The darts board is an insult to the guests and it only has 2 darts to throw at it. Plus the room smelt horrible and musty. The kids room was better and had a computer for kids, which was a god send in the bad weather. It was dark in there for some reason. It was also un manned and unorganised.
The hotel hosts lots of corporate events, so it is often busy and loses its romantic and relaxing feel. It was not easy to get service for food on many occasions.
If this place wants to claim to be 5 star it has a long way to go. An indoor pool would be a massive coup for this place. I always felt that this hotel did not have enough staff. I am not sure I would return as a guest, but I will definitely be back for some coffee and cake.
Was at The Lobby Lounge to sip some Irish coffee with a friend from the US. She has been to the place many years ago and was eager to see what has changed through the years. The admiration turned sour when some 20 minutes after we seated ourselves nobody came over to even ask for our orders. I noticed 2 uniformed ladies who are obviously waitresses busy going around without noticing our presence. I stood up , approached the bar and told them where we were seated. One waitress then sent the menu to our table and left; sadly without returning. I had to motion again while she almost walked past us .
Good thing is the Irish coffee is still as good as ever not to mention the ambience and the sound of the piano eclipsed what could have been a bad day. There weren’t too many customers at the time. So I wonder why the slow service. Looking forward to see some improvement.
This was my 1st time the Phillipines. Decided to indulge in a good hotel on our final night.
As the weather was not set out for a Taal Lake hike, we had to postpone the agenda to the very last day. Hence we sought Hevina, the Front Desk Exec assistance. She went all out from translating our request to the Boat Men to extending our checkout time by 2 hours. It was a wise move as we reached the hotel after the hike at 1pm and mansged to checkout at 2pm sharp. Hevina was also concerned about our safety and gave us the right advise on hiking over the Taal. Safety is top notch & the rooms very clean and the bed was good.
Apart from that, we arrived for check-in at 12 noon and we were allowed to check in early. We requested for a room swap for a higher floor & the request was accepted. The viewing deck is a fantastic family spot and one shouldnt miss it.
The only setback was the shower head and shower area (in between the tiles) some detailed cleaning to exemplify top notch cleanliness.
The location of the hotel is also good. Next to Sky Ranch and public transportation is available at a plenty.
Thank you Phillipines & the Filipinos.
