A Little Piece of Heaven

This was my first time to the Caribbean - for a friend’s birthday and I’m glad we stayed on Bequia and at the Firefly particularly.

Transfer from the tiny Bequia Airport was arranged by the hotel. Gunno, our driver and his friendly attitude augured well for the laidback feel the island has. It's not often you pick up the hotel cook en route to your hotel (and a very good cook at that, but I’ll come to food later).

On arrival, we were greeted with refreshing Virgin Coladas by Rodney, the hotel manager, and his very welcoming team.

The very spacious room has an unmistakably homely feel - with a king- sized four poster bed replete with a mosquito net, a huge patio terrace overlooking the plantation an beautiful walk-in showers. All were elegantly and comfortably designed. Cleaning was to the highest standard. The luxury bed linen was changed daily and as in any reputable 5 star hotel, a turndown service was performed nightly.

We went for the full board option and the hotel’s restaurant offers an à la carte menu. I only eat halal but there was always a fish option.

On the first morning we ordered the West Indian Breakfast - a wonderful discovery: salted fritters, plantain and bakes! The breakfast menu also included omelettes, pancakes served with guava syrup, French toast served with the most delicious grapefruit marmalade, granola with yogurt. Each breakfast was preceded by a beautifully presented exotic fruit platter served by the lovely Ronika.

For lunches and dinners, organic chicken, beef and fish were offered in a variety of tasty local styles.

We were the only guests staying at the hotel this time of year but this didn’t bother us as there were expats and other tourists who came for meals at the restaurant.

The hotel is set in a vast old plantation where everything is kept immaculately.

We visited the stunning Princess Margaret Beach on several occasions. Whilst we sometimes took taxi, Port Elizabeth is only about a 30 min walk away through the lush green vegetation.

This is an impeccably run boutique hotel, where the service is personalised. Do not expect noisy evening entertainment or hordes of guests. It's a peaceful place with serene scenery.

Thank you to Rodney, Donovan, Ronika...and all the other staff for a genuinely memorable holiday. We do hope to return one day.

Beautiful spot, unspoiled serentiy

A truly beautiful, unspoiled property set on an idyllic little Caribbean island.
It's rare to find great service and luxurious guest rooms yet for it to be unspoiled, quiet and serine with genuinely friendly, caring staff who are clearly well trained and proud of their work.

Authentic Caribbean hospitality and cuisine!

We went to Firefly in Bequia for lunch as it was pouring with rain outside.. We were made to feel welcome by good humour, some sturdy Plantation Punch and a great set menu: cream of callalou and coconut milk for starters; kingfish, chicken or beef curry for mains and assorted home-made deserts. All this to be washed down with copious amounts of the above-mentioned Punch.. The food was excellent, the service quick and friendly and the view - overlooking large coconut tree groves and the sea in the distance - spectacular. We shall definitely return (also to finish that second bottle of Punch!).

One of our favourite hotels in the Caribbean!

This is without doubt one of our favourite hotels in the Caribbean! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and general manager who knew our names and met us with a beautiful coconut fruit drink. The staff were all extremely friendly and the restaurant very flexible creating different ‘off menu’ dishes for us which were all incredibly tasty and fresh. My husband brought back a fish from the market, a rare impulse buy for him, and it was beautifully prepared that night for our dinner.

The grounds included a rather nice ‘6 hole Cross Country Golf Course’. While it may not rival St. Andrews it was beautifully kept and had spectacular views all round, plus the weather is much warmer than Scotland! The hotel provide balls and clubs and it’s free for guests!

The second day we did a Plantation Tour which was guided by Ezra, who works as a groundman at the hotel as well. Ezra is such a warm personality and fun guide. I truly enjoyed walking through the plantation sampling the fruits and herbs. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment.

The guest rooms are exceptionally large with lovely bathrooms and top quality amenities including bathrobes and his and her sarongs to wear to the pool.
This is not a typically corporate or touristy hotel, the atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for the general manager Rodney who does a great job here; a true sample of excellent hospitality!

Lovely spacious rooms.

I flew to St Lucia, before getting a small private plane to Bequia. It was a good journey, with great views out of the window looking at St Vincent, sit on the right for the best views! Lots of beautiful pictures were taken! A taxi met me at the airport and took us to the hotel. We were greeted by Rodney and a delicious fruit punch :) We were shown to our room, which had a massive balcony with amazing scenery, again bring a camera! The room was very tidy and nice. Me and friends almost immediately made a visit to the lovely hotel pool, and lounged on the sun beds with a drink! During our stay we looked around the plantation , and saw the lovely dogs. We also played golf , and explored Bequia island. I look foward to my next visit in December with my pals. I also loved the food and friendly staff in the restaurant and bar, and I also had a look at the villas, which I wish I could buy ! I would recommend this place, I had a great time!:)))))))))))))))))
