Your room is elegant with all the little extras that make your stay that bit sweeter. The spa, with its huge treatment menu and sparkling facilities is quite frankly a dream.

When the weather’s fine you can dine out on the terrace.

From the moment you walk into this decadent spa you’ll
know you’re in for a treat – the sheer amount of facilities on offer are
bound to impress. There’s a hydrotherapy pool, a state-of-the-art
fitness suite, a studio for classes, a sauna, a steam room and samarium,
experience showers, a kubel dusche (one for the brave – it’s an
elevated bucket of ice cold water which you stand under and pull a cord
to spill on yourself), an al fresco hot tub and even a champagne nail
bar where you can sip fizz while you get a polish and shape. There
are also several stylish treatment rooms where you can choose from a
range of massages, facials and beauty treatments. All treatments use
seriously luxurious products to leave your skin soft and supple.

The Greenway Hotel and Spa sits just outside the historic Regency town of Cheltenham and is surrounded by eight acres of pristine green grounds with the rolling hills and woods of the Cotswolds beyond. If you were hoping to explore this lovely part of the world then this hotel is perfectly placed. Cheltenham itself is unique and interesting, known as the ‘garden town of England’. There’re also lots of pretty country houses with amazing gardens to visit including Chedworth, Hailes Abbey, and Lodge Park. You’re just a short drive from the ancient Roman city of Bath, or if you fancied a day at the races then Cheltenham Race Course is also nearby.

Damn near perfect! 4.5/5

Damn near perfect! 4.5/5

When using my phone maps IE google maps from the direction most people will arrive from there is a turning/junction virtually right next to the hotel. Just to note as we went into the road rather than the hotel. It could be an age thing :-)

Once we find the entrance it is a beautiful drive up to the house/hotel. The best part is, as there are not dozens of rooms, you can park outside the front if the hotel as if you own the place. Making you feel VERY important.

When we checked in we were met by James, who was utter perfection! In my far too many years I have been fortunate enough to stay in a lot of hotels of all categories / star ratings and all over the world and never have I had such a perfect check-in process. I could go into it in great detail but I would be on a OCD level of what he did and you would get bored and think me mad but it is a 100% genuine in this comment. WELL DONE!

James escorted us to our room and we had incredibly fortunate to be updated to a Deluxe room and what a surprise. It was the room used on the web site and was simply stunning! My wife and I were both blown away. If as suspect all the standard rooms are outside of the main house "ALWAYS" take a Deluxe room or above it is worth the extra honestly!

We are taking on board some of the design features from the room for our own home as they were so fantastic. The one small thing and I am being hyper critical, the light / chandelier wasn`t really in keeping, which is such a shame but wouldn`t be the easiest thing to change. Also the stand for the DVD player etc were also not really in keeping with the rest of the room, but again hyper critical.

We didn`t eat at the hotel in the evening but did have breakfast and in a beautiful room overlooking a great looking garden. There was a good choice of cereals, fruit, juices etc and your order is taken if you require a cooked breakfast. My wife is a vegetarian and therefore ordered the vegetarian sausage breakfast. Only to find it was QUORN and she doesn`t eat QUORN. A small point and may not affect many other people but perhaps the wording can be amended as many vegetarians don`t eat Quorn products. Also our perceptions of fried bread were a little different to what was delivered. We were expecting at least half a slice of bread having been fried, however what we had was a small circle of what appeared to be more like undercooked toast. I forgot to take a picture of it for reference.

After breakfast we went for a walk round the grounds which were stunning and it was so very very peaceful. Such a wonderful place to be on a beautiful morning.

One thing that has always been a pet hate is food trays outside rooms. Why can`t you keep it in your room or call to have it collected rather than dump outside your room. With BIG hotels 2-300 rooms I can expect it a little but not somewhere smaller / more discerning. But there was a tray left outside overnight and was still there when we checked out about mid-day. Perhaps ask the people to call when finished or at least go past the room later to see if it has been left outside.

Would we go back. OH YES!!! and we are already looking at dates in the new year and for a Deluxe room and above.

My review should be 4.5/5 or 9/10 but as I can`t do this I have to make it 4/5 as minor minor things and when we are back I hope we can make it perfection like James and 5/5. Well done all the staff at Small Luxury Hotel as well, especially Ezra who has helped looked after us on several occasions.

Wonderful romantic night away

We stayed for one night in a master room, with afternoon tea, spa time, room service dinner and breakfast. The hotel itself is stunning, beautifully adapted to being a hotel while preserving the Elizabeathan fabric of the house. Our room was more of a suite, absolutely gorgeous. Spa is lovely, we were lucky enough to get the outdoor hot tub to ourselves in the evening, under the stars with a drink to hand. Afternoon delicious and great choice of teas. Breakfast and dinner also great food. We did have some trouble with noise from the kitchen in our room but the staff couldn't be lovelier, happy to move us and the Oak suite was absolutely silent! Lucky with the weather too, gave us a chance to wander the gardens. Only downside was leaving - definitely going back and for longer! Have to say what really made the difference was the staff - so friendly and helpful, really welcoming and all just lovely to talk to, both in the hotel and spa. Thank you so much for the best hotel stay we've had in the UK!
