How to Get There
Stayed 2 nights at the Deluxe Sea View room on Level 9 and it was awesome .
Yes the hotel is slightly old , but it has everything u want from a 5 star hotel.
The front desk lady Hallie was very friendly and attentive during check in .
Breakfast were great and had many varieties of cuisine .
It is a hotel catered to family with kids , but couples can still have a good quiet time as well.
The location near the beach is convenient .
All in all , it is a nice hotel and if you ever need anything , the concierge is just one call away.
I have my serious problem to figure out what the vision of that property should be and who are they targeting with their offering.
The hotel is a bit of a mess without a clear message to their customers. It tries to cater to all and nothing and performs at the end averagely for everyone I believe.
Are the glorious times over for this Shangri-La? If you look at this property and the way its managed, the answer has to be YES the good times are over.
Let me point out 3 points that made us think:
Upon arrival, the room was not ready, what can happen we arrived before 15:00check in time, but we thought to be there 2 hours earlier and to tell the check-in staff, that we need to attend a meeting that was actually held in the hotel, could help to get the room at least on time. But it didn't work. No clear information was given we've been told to wait, nobody knew how long. Over the 2 hours waiting no update from the hotel staff. We inquired again no clear update just wait" at 15:00 the room was still not ready "please wait maybe another 30 minutes" we got told. What was after the event should start actually.
The room still not ready we insisted to change somewhere and we got told there is a changing room close to the lobby. We went there our luggage was brought. While we took a shower and changed several other guests tried to enter the room, seems others had the same problem. No shower gel came out of the broken soap dispenser at least we found some towels. After being changed the room was ready at the time the meeting started. so no time to check in. If a visit to a hotel starts like that then that's not a great foundation for a delightful stay. I tried to speak to the front office manager, he/she was not available and I got asked not to file a complaint about a reason I didn't understand. Anyway, I left a hotel for my meetings.
No welcome drink no fresh towels, but we have been told that we should take a drink out of the mini bar. What idea is that, self-service like flying on a budget airline.
We went to the main restaurant in order to get some a la carte lunch. Nobody cared for us once we sat down. Staff unattentive, nobody came to offer a menu or ask for an order. Finally we got a menu. Wanted to order no waiter around again. Finally, we found a waitress, we asked how long the salad would take we were in a hurry, 15 minutes maximum we have been told. Ok, all good we thought and ordered. After 15 minutes, what a surprise no salad arrived, we went to the cashier to ask for the salad. They started to search for the order and came back with the information it would be done soon. Restaurant nearly empty and the salad took nearly 30 minutes. We had to leave to get ready for meetings. So they packed it into a plastic box and threw some plastic fork and spoon inside and we left. The salad was small not much chicken on it, reminded me more of a take away at a fast food restaurant.
The breakfast buffet looked like it was done to fulfill the need of having a breakfast buffet, but not to spoil the guests. It's all done cheap to keep the food costs down, Shangri-La on a budget as it felt. It is the little things where you see the attention to detail is missing or saving is far more important than customer satisfaction. The bread selection not exciting, cold cut the bare minimum, waffles cold and hard, fruit juices are not fresh and all processed out of the box. Several self-service coffee machines serve your coffee. The cappuccino was not a delight as well, just the typical cheap hotel cappuccino for breakfast. Not much healthy breakfast options besides some fruits.
You leave the breakfast with that unsatisfied feeling, that it could have been so much better and other hotels in the same segment do it so much better.
The rooms are quite spacious, but you can see they have been there for a while and are kept ok but need some touch-up.
in the bathroom baby shampoo and shower gel for kids and a baby toilet seat on the floor. We are a 45-year-old couple traveling alone and really not in need of these amenities. Is it too much of a hassle for the housekeeping to remove those things for customer that are not traveling with kids? It just shows again that nobody thinks about the details.
What's good about the place, nice pool, a bit aged as but not a problem, beach access and being on Sentosa is nice as well after a busy day of meetings if you don't mind the taxi ride to the hotel.
Our stay leaves us with questions and second thoughts. We think its at least for us, not the place to stay the next time. Singapore is full of high standard properties.
Such an awesome space with mirage like views! Plenty of full blown fun all around the island & retreat to Shanfri-la Rasa Sentosa's private oasis set by Tropical beach & ocean inlets, Exotic streams & Jungles canopies. An Amazing resort and island. Its very family friendly though with ample space for all guest types. I never felt encroached by the pack of excited illuminated variety of kids who really enjoy the spacious pool water world extravaganza. It's a really fun and lively poolside scene.
If it really bothers you can take a short walk to the ocean lagoons which just go on forever there is plenty of suitable beach front lounge stations & a walk over to the western tip is an extensive water front garden beyond the adult side of the main pool the kids don’t stray over there at all, too boring. In fact for the Adults it is we’ll appointed peaceful interesting escape, vista of Singapore massive shipping corridor with big water passenger vehicles passing & a range of commercial & military aircraft flying overhead, fighter jets! In the day & with the large moon lights along the waterfront is potentially a romantic evening spot. Take a glass of wine
One moment within a storm passing remotely I captured from our top floor oceanfront room footage of a massive ocean water-spout. It was never boring.
The room. Flawless, everything you expect from this amazing brand Shangri-La.
Excellent Working Lobby – Concierge front desk & Housekeeping able to respond effortlessly to needs and spontaneous upgrades & mishaps etc. A perfect score from me. Flawless! & Faith's service was Fine !
5 STAR FOOD – Absolutely delicious - it was just me and a Great friend of mine, no kids, still we bought the family fun package due the inclusion of full F&B package. It was the right choice the food was Outstanding plentiful Delicious, an amazing variety & lots of delicious seafood. The roast duck & every other type of roast you could imagine. The Indian curries and breads just scrumptious highest quality fare. I did not focus too much on the deserts, too full. But I ate crunchy baked peach crumble, pancakes with whipped cream maple syrup and wild berry compote.
I appreciate the endless milo dispenser in the kids food section plenty of milk is good for your calcium needs & let’s face it with so much to do on Sentosa island you need to be fit and have a certain level of fitness.
We came direct from Changi international Airport via the subway to harbourside then Sentosa monorail to beachside & never left the island. There is a Shangri-la coach that goes between harbourside shopping mall and train link to the hotel every 30 mins in normal business hours.
look forward to returning ASAP. SENTOSA ISLAND such an awesome experience.
This is a very large resort with great amenities and particularly caters for families. Excellent pool area including kids water playground and water slides. Location is excellent, right on the beach. Lovely gardens, good food and happy hour was always welcome. The lady on the tour desk was so helpful and got us well organised on how to best use our time whilst we were there. Has a shuttle bus and the free Island bus stop and Siloso cable car station. Very happy with our stay.
We stayed for 5 nights after Easter. Were received at 10pm directly from the airport by helpful and friendly staff, and the kids were enthralled by their Tent in the room !
They just loved it. Loved the pool, water slides and the buffet meals.
The rooms for adults were good, and the meal package was good value. Not the best food in Singapore, but a good selection of local and foreign fare.
Perhaps my only criticism was that there was not a nice place to meet someone for a cup of coffee or tea. A friend came over and we had to have a tea and coffee in the lobby shop as the other facilities were being used for a conference. It was raining so the pool side bar was not a an option.
The access to Sentosa's other attractions was excellent with the cable car and bus station just outside the hotel door.
