How to Get There
I had the privilege to spend 2 nights at this beautiful property. It is elegant and sophisticated, but has a charm about it that chases away any pretention that might be experienced at other luxury properties. The rooms were very spacious and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was gorgeous and also spacious. I could go on (a lot) about the comfort and beauty of the rooms but I really want on focus on the service, particularly the front desk and concierge.
On my first full day there I thought I'd lost a small tinted sunscreen lipstick as I was walking down the hall or steps. I retraced my steps but couldn't find it. Not a big deal, but I use it all the time and love it because I can have both lip color and sun protection. And it's not a product that's carried in Europe so I'd have to wait until I got home to replace it. However, I went to the front desk and told them where I thought I'd lost it and that if it turned up, it was mine. I left for the morning. When I returned, the concierge called me over to his desk and said no one had found the lip balm. I thanked them for looking and figured that was the end of it.
I went to my room to change for the beach. When I came down to the front desk to ask the best way to go to the beach, a different person, a girl, was at the desk, she gave me directions to the beach and then asked if my lip balm had been found. I was shocked, a) that she knew about it, and b) that she knew it was me! I mean, Woody Allen, Wallace Shawn, Steve Gutenburg, and who knows what other celebrities were in the hotel at the time and here she was personally identifying me, Lip Balm girl!!!!! As far as I know, that was her first shift with me as a guest there. Anyway, I told her it hadn't been found. She asked me to wait a minute and she disappeared into the back office. When she returned she reported that no one had turned it in in the last little bit. I thanked her profusely and asked her the way to a pharmacy so I could get some thing for my lips, I was on my way to the beach, remember. she also recommended the lip product she uses for such a purpose, which turned out to be the same product the pharmacist recommended when I arrived. When I returned from the beach about 4 hours later, I walked past the front desk to the elevator. The concierge came to me at the elevator and informed me that my lip balm still had not been found. I expressed my deepest gratitude for their continued efforts, but told them it really wasn't necessary to worry about it. The next morning when I was departing the hotel for my next destination, I waved to the front desk and said, "Thank you!" One of them, someone I hadn't had any interaction with, asked if they had been able to find my lip balm. EVERYONE seemed to know about it! I told him that I hadn't but really appreciated their attention to it.
I tell you this long, drawn out story because I think it's important that you know that this staff is attentive...to everyone. They knew me by face and name, they cared that I had lost a useful item, and they didn't let it rest because I cared enough about it to mention it to them. All this on account of a $6.00 lip balm, which I found a week later tucked in a fold of my bag!!!!!! Them valuing me, little ole, non celebrity, Lip Balm girl, me, is worth more to me than all the comfort and luxury this property also provides (and it has that in spades).
Why am I only giving them 4 stars (and I'm loathe to do that), they leave their housekeeping carts in the hallways all day and night. Maybe it's a Spain thing, because they weren't the only property where I stayed this trip that did that. I didn't like that because a) it sat outside my room most of the time, and b) it just diminishes the elegance of the property.
It is aged but well and tastefully decorated hotel located at river in city centre. It is probably only 5* hotel in this city. Breakfast is excellent and waiters are serving efficiently. TV works fine, but no English speaking programs just ''Russia today ''.Very nice education...There were problems after we entered our room :electricity did not work and staff worked long before they found that our key cards were made wrongly...They also worked hard to switch off air conditioning upon our request.
As we are snoring, we always book suit to sleep in separate rooms. There was no extendable sofa as in other hotels, so we had to drag bed's mat to living room for my sleeping. Anyway it is good hotel , but maybe not for demanding travellers as we are,
First, parking is tricky. When we arrived it was maybe not clear to me that I needed to drive onto (what looked like) the sidewalk for the valet.
Otherwise, what's not to like?
Gorgeous and elegant lobby. Super helpful valets and front-desk staff.
Spacious rooms. Lovely linens. Comfortable bed. Well appointed bathrooms.
Location was ideal in my mind: close enough to walk to the city center for pintxo, but not that close that it's mobbed with tourists.
Breakfast buffet was fairly complete and generally delicious.
Would gladly stay again.
