How to Get There
We went for our anniversary. The pool and room were great. We aren't much for gambling and couldn't handle the smoke. We did a lot of walking and enjoyed the atmosphere. It's off our bucket list now. There are restaurants and bars available after 4 pm. There is one open for breakfast.
My husband and I love casinos, and work a ton of hours, so it's nice to have a short 1 or 2 night getaway from reality...and a casino resort is normally our first choice. Ameristar rooms are absolutely amazing, and the dining choices are great! It's close to everything, and a great choice for a 2 night getaway!!!
We had the pleasure of staying here for a convention in late Oct. 2018. Truly enjoyed our stay here. Everyone was very nice and rooms were huge. Would highly recommend this resort to anyone who has business or pleasure in mind. The conference attendance was very well attended. The hotel personnel had to quickly accommodate a move to a larger area to fit everyone into a room. Very good service. If I had to complain at all it would be about the diner in the resort. It didn't have very good hours. Most diners that I have been in are either 24 hours or 6am to midnight. This place closed early and didn't open very early at all. Other than that a fantastic place to spend some time.
We've been a fan of Ameristar St Charles for years. We live several hours away - and visit Ameristar an average of twice a year for several days. We also frequent other Ameristar locations.
We just returned from a trip - stayed 3 nights. The rooms continue to be a big plus for this property due to the bathroom, step down living room and overall size. They are certainly showing a bit more wear than they were a couple years ago. The beds needs to be replaced. The plywood under one mattress was hanging a foot out from the mattress when we checked in. My wife and I took it upon our self to take the mattress off and fix the issue. That's a relatively minor thing - but in general - the mattress are worn out. People need a higher quality of bedding for the price. The hallway carpet is also in pretty bad need to replacement. A lot of stains - takes away from the overall quality of the hotel. There are also increasing minor issues (hot water, no bathroom remote when we checked in, room service trays in the hall for 24 hours, etc).
As far as the casino - once again I questioned why we continue to come here upon departure. I enjoy the overall atmosphere of the casino - but it has always - consistently - been the tightest place we visit. We would stay more nights if the casino paid out a bit better.
The thing I was most disappointed in was the service. My wife both experienced a lack of attention with a side of apathy at the Amerisports bar - on multiple occasions - with multiple employees. Also, upon checkout, I inquired about a potential comp for one of the three nights we stayed. Prior to arrival I talked to someone on the phone about this. They said based on our last stay - it was possible that we would be comped a night. Based on this - we paid a high rate for Friday night so we'd have 3 nights of play. I inquired about this as we checked out. The front desk clerk found this subject completely foreign. After asking, she made a phone call. The folks on the other end of the call were unimpressed with our play.
These issues, on top of the fact that we we're there the day after they transitioned ownership (which led to many issues with machines, points, etc) made this stay sub-par.
We want to keep giving Ameristar St Charles our business. But given this experience - adding that we also appreciate what River City has to offer - adding that we tried Hollywood for the first time this trip......We will think twice about our reservations next time. We understand how these places work and we don't expect to walk out rich when we visit. But given the price - even at discount player rates - we need more overall quality of services during a trip.
My wife and I checked in at Ameristar St. Charles for a three night stay beginning on a Wednesday. We spent the day in the casino and when we returned to the room for the evening we discovered we had been supplied with only one bath towel. I went down to the desk and got more towels. The following day we returned to the room at about midnight to discover there was no hot water. I called the desk and was told someone from facilities maintenance would be up to check on the problem. No one ever showed up. The water did eventually get warm, the reason why explained the following night, and we took warm showers. On Friday night we again discovered that we did not have hot water. I called the desk, complained again, and was told someone from facilities maintenance would show up. A young man did show up this time, I explained the problem, and he ran all the hot water faucets open at once, noting that the water would be warm one moment and cold the next. He tested the water temperature and the warmest it became was 104.6 degrees. He then said that to fix the problem he would need to get a new valve and replace the old one in our bathroom. I told him to go ahead and fix it. This is at 11:00 p.m. After working in our bathroom for about 20 minutes the man tells us he cannot repair the problem until he is able to get access to the adjoining room as they share plumbing. So, he leaves and I get to take a cold and quick shower. The next morning I go to the desk and ask to speak to the manager and Matt introduces himself. I explain to him our problems with the towels and then the hot water, adding that the hall floors are not being swept regularly as evidenced by the dust accumulated on the tile floor edges. Matt writes these things down and then explains that they are aware of the hot water valve problem and that other rooms have experienced the same issue. Repairs are only made on a case by case basis. I asked Matt if management ever did walk throughs inspecting all areas and was told management only did walk throughs for safety inspections. I then asked Matt to comp us two breakfast buffets for our inconveniences and he gave me a $44 comp which he reassured me would cover two buffets. At the buffet minutes later they said two buffets came to $53, so I hiked back to the hotel desk to get the comp increased...it had become a matter of principal. Matt could or would only give me $50 and it took a call to a casino host who called the buffet to get us two comped breakfasts. We are not making any plans to return to Ameristar as there are too many other options for gambling in the area.
