How to Get There
I had a great time at Curacao and this hotel complimented the peacefulness of my stay. I can be picky about food, and I tell you, this place has a great buffet. There are huge iguanas around the hotel, that pose for you when the beautiful view of the blue sea isn't enough. There is a bar by the beach along with beach chairs, what could be better than that? There is an air conditioner in all rooms and the drinks are fantastic, you oughta try the "Ponche." I was very pleased with the food and view, with the drinks and the rooms, but what touched me the most is how nice in this hotel can be. They will do things out of pure love and care, like guiding you to the beach or helping you find your way around. They are honest and humble, they speak; Spanish, English, Dutch, and Papiamento which is the native language. I had an amazing time in Curacao and I would like to thank very much to all the staff members of this hotel for making my stay wonderful, but I would like to highlight the service and attention of the administrator Mr.Janderson Feliz and Ms.Marioly.
The site is marvelous and the facilities comfortable: internet wireless in zones near the reception, large rooms, good bedding, air conditioning, spacious bathroom with plenty of towels. Nevertheless, everything is very decrepit and deserves a huge renovation.
The cleanliness should be better controlled (beach, public areas, restaurants and bars). Further, the staff has no longer the motivation to maintain the standard of the lodge and the social rules that would make it a quiet place. People can play loud music around the pool without trigerring reactions from the staff. These inconvients can quickly turn out this paradise into hell.
The meals are hearty but simple (school canteen). Do not wait for a grilled fish!
All management is to be reviewed to restore the past brilliance of this hotel.
Anyway, you can still have a fun stay despite of the price, too expensive regarding the level of this hotel.
Sad to see how an exclusive lodge has lost its past sparkles. The staff is very nice and helpful and the location is beautiful on the still wild & authentic kalki beach. Hygiene is not up to standards, ants are running on room floor and walls. Also food is not great. Pity that the needed investments and repairs are not done to renew this location with high potential. Hopefully this will happen soon.
We stayed February 27 - March 20 at Villa Kalki #1 on the Kura Hulanda Lodge property in Westpunt, but it is owned and managed independently. We were told that Kura Hulanda resorts are in bankruptcy which probably explains why the resort was not well maintained. We only dined there once - the buffet choices were very limited and mediocre. The bar stock was very depleted. We didn't go in any of the rooms, but the grounds were shabby: many lights not working and hanging by the wires, furniture in the lounge area was stained and unattractive, the ocean walkway had a slimy drainage issue. I slipped in it and my friend slipped and fell. All of the staff we interacted with were very pleasant and tried to be helpful, especially security staff. We appreciated their commitment and friendliness.
I really wish I could say that I would stay in this villa again, because some things were very nice such as: the view, pool, villa layout and most of the furnishings and resort security. However several issues were major and I don't believe they will be repaired anytime soon. I'm referring to the frequent sewer odor coming from the hall bathroom. We were able to endure it because for most of our stay we didn't use that bathroom or the adjoining bedroom which also became filled with a terrible stench. We still smelled the odor from time to time, but it was bearable.
It is also apparent that a number of items are worn and need to be replaced: stove top fan & lights do not work, microwave doesn't heat anything, wine cooler made a continuous noise so we stopped using it, washer/dryer didn't dry, water temperature in the master shower could not be regulated - all hot from the ceiling and all cold from the wall faucets, main tv would lose sound intermittently and master bedroom tv came on 20-30 minutes after pushing the "on' button.
Some of these issues were addressed with the owner, but none were resolved. We know that some of the issues are related to the ongoing Kura Hulanda bankruptcy and that makes it more of a challenge to maintain the villa. The owner did replace our broken coffee pot right away, a broken blender (after a week) and offered for us to move to villa #3 when she couldn't fix the water temperature problem. We decided not to move mainly because #3 has no 110 voltage and we needed that for one of our group who has breathing problems and needs oxygen and therapy machines 24 hours a day.
In spite of it all, we really enjoyed our vacation. Curacao is a wonderful island with great weather, lots to do, fantastic beaches, a beautiful city area and many nice restaurants. I would definitely return to Curacao, but can not recommend Villa Kalki #1.
Kura Hulanda in Westpunt is in a beautiful location at the west end of Curacao, near Watamula, and the national parks Sete Boka and Christoffel park. The hotel has very nice ans spacious seaview rooms (with a living room and a seperate bedroom) with a good size balcony. The formula is all inclusive, the food is good and there’s enough variation. Service is great, with clean towels and sheets every day. Staff is friendly. Westpunt is rather isolated and has no amenities, so the all inclusive formula is a necessity.
If you’re planning to stay here, you must either love the quiet or love to dive and I love both, so I had a great time in Kura Hulanda and will certainly be back!
