This small but mighty boutique hotel was a splurge for our anniversary, but well worth every penny! We loved the adults-only atmosphere and the personalized attention from the friendly and helpful staff who were exceptionally patient with our attempts to communicate in Spanish even though their English was better than our español. Our gorgeous room was clean and comfortable and we loved the private patio with an outdoor shower. The only possible downside to the "Guanacaste" room was that its proximity to the lobby meant that activity therein sometimes woke us earlier than we cared to rise as the sounds carried, but there was a hall doorway to separate the spaces that I am sure the staff would have been happy to allow us to close if we had requested it. A note to city folk who might be jumpy about reptiles and other creepy crawlers: We were greeted by a small snake on the patio on the first night after using the outdoor shower, but keeping the sliding door closed kept the critters out, and anyway it's their space we are visiting after all. Immersion in the natural environment is one of the uniquely beautiful aspects of this fine hotel. You will see and hear beautiful song birds and likely howler monkeys as well. Although the latter sound ominous, they shy away from humans, and are delightful to observe as they enjoy family meals in the surrounding trees. We enjoyed the meal-inclusive package and appreciated the dietary accommodations from the kitchen. We took advantage of the free shuttle to visit Playa Hermosa and Playa Ocotal but stayed away from Playa Coco since it seemed more densely populated and touristy. Hermosa was lovely, but we much preferred Ocotal which was not only beautiful, but almost completely free of vendors hawking souvenirs so it felt more relaxing and private. For a additional excursion, we chose to enjoy the Borinquen combo at Rincon de la Vieja volcanic park that included horseback riding, ziplining, lunch, sauna, mud baths and hot springs. We would definitely recommend that to any adventurous couple! We really cannot say enough nice things about the terrific hospitality team--from the front desk to the bar and restaurant crew to the housekeeping and grounds keeping staff to their partners at San Antonio transportation--everyone with whom we interacted went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible experience and we are very grateful to them. Would be happy to visit Villa Buena Onda again!

Every aspect of this resort was beyond amazing. The staff was very friendly... they helped us with everything from tours to local beaches & sites, & provided us with everything that we could ever need. The rooms & grounds were gorgeous & absolutely immaculate. Every meal, every bite, was gourmet delicious! The view of the mountains & ocean were breathtaking! If coming to Costa Rica we highly recommend this place! It was so wonderful that this place may have ruined all future vacations bc we became so spoiled there!!

This was the best vacation ever, and VBO had a lot to do with it. Pure luxury and amazing customer service. The room was super clean and even had an outdoor shower and a beautiful view of the ocean. The restaurant was very accommodating to our vegetarian diet, and every meal was delicious. This place is truly one of a kind.

An absolute wonderful stay and we hope to return at some point in the future. Everything from the room, food, staff and tours were first class the entire way. It made for a relaxing and perfect honeymoon. Gracias!

One night, will hopefully be back for more in the future.

After 7 days split between Playa Guiones and Santa Teresa/Playa Hermosa, we spent our last night in Costa Rica at VBO before flying out of LIR. Everyone was friendly, everything was clean, views were as good or better than pictured, food was great. No complaints at all. Well worth a night or three, and less than 1/2 hour from LIR airport.

We decided on two goals for our next Costa Rican visit: learn more/better Spanish, and book at least two nights here on the tail end of the trip vs our one night this go round. Great to unwind before headed home.
