Perched on a verdant hillside on Mallorca’s turquoise Costa de la Calma, the Maritim Hotel Galatzó provides the perfect spot for a balmy escape. With sandy beaches, a sparkling sea-view backdrop, warm waters and cool swimming pools, switching off here is unavoidable.
four-star Maritim Hotel Galatzó has plenty going on; indulge in the full-service spa with a
whirlpool and a Finnish sauna, limber up at the tennis centre, grab the shuttle bus and top up your tan on the local Paguera beach or tee off with a game of golf at a nearby course.
If all that sounds like too much activity, park yourself on a Balinese daybed on the pool’s sun terrace to take in views of the hotels exotic gardens. Or, for a change of scene, the capital city of Palma and the beautiful Tramuntana mountain range are both within easy reach.
Set in the hotel’s main buildings or the adjacent bungalows, rooms are spacious and comfortably decked out. Family rooms offer plenty of space for you and your brood, while Standard rooms are more compact – yours will come with a serene sea view.
Breakfast (and dinner if you opt for half-board) is served in the hotel’s main Restaurant Mediterraneo. The buffet-style meals offer a wide range of international and Mediterranean-inspired dishes, overlooking the hotel’s gardens. For a change of scene, Maritim Hotel Galatzó’s Vista De Rey offers an exclusive a la carte menu and, if you can’t drag yourself away from the Balinese day beds, there’s a poolside bar serving light snacks.
The hotel’s vast wellness complex is home to a Finnish sauna, a whirlpool, a steamed bath and treatment rooms. Or if you really want to get your heart rate going, there’s always the fitness centre (if you must).
The Costa de la Carma is to the south-west of Mallorca, on a hillside just two and a half kilometres away from Paguera Beach (the hotel offers a daily shuttle service). The area is spacious and quiet, but is also close to the capital, Palma, and the towns of Santa Ponça and Andratx and hiking in the nearby Tramuntana mountains is not to be missed.
How to Get There
Definitely need a car if you stay here. Nearest town a long walk away. The layout of the complex involves lots of stairs and long distances from restaurant and amenities. This would not be a hotel for those with mobility problems. Sunbed availability ok so far. Buffet ok but other guests centimetres away waiting to pounce on the food you are serving yourself. A bit rude really. Service a bit slow at times from waiting staff but maybe not enough of them? The place is sprawling and we would not book again. If you like walking and stairs you will Love it here!!
I cannot fault this hotel on anything. Beautiful setting high up on a hill overlooking the sea, loads of different areas to relax and sunbathe and a plentiful supply of sunbeds and umbrellas with two pools with pool bars. The whole hotel is scrupulously clean and the staff were, without exception always friendly, helpful and good for a laugh. The two restaurants are spacious and nicely laid out with a good variety of food on offer. The hotel is attractively spread on different levels on the hillside and therefore there are a lot of steps, not a problem for the able bodied but could be hard for anyone with mobility problems, although block 7 did have a stair lift and a lift to the gym, spa and indoor swimming pool and there is also a lift to the restaurants. There is a regular shuttle bus which takes you the five minute journey down to Paguera and the beach. It only has 8 seats but will keep coming back to pick up those left behind. Alternatively reception will call you a taxi which costs about 6 euros. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing experience.
Hotel Galatzo is a great hotel and we enjoyed our stay. The room was nice and had a great view out to sea and a large bathroom. The hotel has lots of nice trees and plenty of sunbeds, 2 nice pools and a spa (we did not use it as the weather was too nice to be inside!). We found the hotel to be in a good location, easy to get to and from by car (if you want to see the local area you need a car but we just hired one for a couple of days from the hotel, great service as they drop the car off for you).
My only negative comment, and the reason I did not give 5 stars, was that you cannot sit outside for breakfast or dinner, which given the weather would be a nice thing to be able to do and is often possible at other hotels I've been to.
Staff were all fantastic.
Boyfriend and I booked this hotel through secret escapes as a little anniversary weekend away.
The hotel is beautiful, the grounds, the pool and the view of the sea is gorgeous - very romantic setting.
The pool was freezing, but it was boiling weather so we didn’t mind too much.
The rooms were huge! We booked a comfort room and it came with balcony living room and 2 bathrooms! Not expecting the size for the price we paid!
The breakfast and buffet dinner included in our deal was really good! Not expecting food to be much at a buffet but they had fresh grilled fish and meats every evening and an array of fresh salad and vegetables.
You shouldn’t want to go outside the resort here - come for some r and r!! But we did take a walk into Peguara which is about 20 mins down hill (and then back up a steep hill) where we went to a nice fish restaurant called Mar y Mar.
Would recommend this to couples wanting a relaxing break - would be better if the hotel was couples/adults only to add to the exclusivity feel without kids around but that’s just personal preference! Other than that, it’s a 10!
Due to delays in our journey we arrived at about 1am but even at that time the duty Receptionist was very friendly and helpful and also cracked open a bottle of bubbly for us which was a nice surprise.
We had asked, previous to our visit, if our party (2couples) could be allocated quiet adjacent rooms which the hotel intimated would be done, however, our friends room (111) was right next door to the evening entertainment area and was certainly not quiet! We were further up the corridor (room 122) which was fine.
The rooms were a good size, ours had a walk in shower, and were clean and welcoming. There is shower gel/shampoo provided and conditioner. There is a mini bar with prices advertised but beware IF YOU USE the coffee machine in the room you are charged 1€ per cup of coffee. This was NOT indicated on any information we found in the room and came as a surprise when we settled our bill. The air con in the room was efficient and very quiet. The food in the restaurant was plentiful and varied and there was lots of space in all areas of the hotel as it wasn’t full when we were there.
There is a free shuttle service to the town - although by the end of our stay it was becoming a bit of a bun fight to get a seat on the minibus, but to be fair if you didn’t get on the first minibus they would return and take you down or bring you back whichever it was, making enough journeys so that everyone was accommodated. I assume in the high season they would use more than 1 eight seater bus to transport guests.
If you prefer a walk it took us 30 minutes to the nearest beach, but it was all down hill, we often took a taxi back as it was only €5 or so and takes 3/4 minutes.
We hired a car for a few days via the hotel which has an arrangement with a local firm which we found no more expensive than firms in the town.
