How to Get There
First up, the location of the resort is superb. It's a 5 min drive from the Nongsapura ferry terminal and is far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. Set in the midst of greenery, with a backdrop of hills, it has a good idyllic feel to it. One can pretty much see both Singaporean as well as Malaysian coastlines from this place.
We stayed in the Riani wing. Our room was reasonably well-appointed for the price we paid and had a nice little balcony that looked out into the sea. The view was partially obscured by foliage but we liked the balcony. Some of the rooms in the Riani wing are located uphill and require some amount of walking. So you need to be clear about where exactly your room is.
The resort has good facilities. There's a well-equipped centre for water sports called the Cabana Club. They have all sorts of activities available, including the likes of wake-boarding and fly-boarding. It is somewhat expensive compared to other tourist places. However, you will not find yourself in the middle of a crowd and the quality of people / equipment is good. The resort has a private beach and a couple of pools as well. There is long jetty which is absolutely great. One can catch sunrise there. There is also an open-air bar located at the starting end of the jetty. I don't think they have a dedicated area for kids though, at least we did not see any. Given the distance from the city centre, the resort needs to run more frequent shuttle services (these are not free, by the way).
F&B choices are adequate for a short stay but are not exactly best-in-class. I'm a vegetarian so it was good to have a few options to try out (including 2-3 Indian dishes). The food was palatable but could be better, in term of taste as well as international variety. Breakfast, in particular, was underwhelming. I expected a better choice of breads and spreads. They need to get themselves a new toaster. The egg station would do well to improve. The main restaurant has live music during the evenings.
Service was great and everyone had a big smile on their faces. Check-in was smooth and they let us check out three hours late, which we appreciate. I had my birthday over the weekend we were staying there. Based on my wife's request, the staff got me a cake and made a nice little song and dance of it at the breakfast table. That was cool.
Overall, it's a good place to stay over the weekend. A little bit of spit and polish, will take guest experience up by a notch.
I have stayed at Turi Beach Resort twice in the last 3 years. Once at each wing.
While the more rustic looking wing to the right, I believe it’s called Riana seems renovated and in good shape.
The second time around, we opted for the more modern wing. It was in poor condition.
The beach has a oil spill. My feet were full on grease within minutes. The jetty was also in dire need of repairs.
The breakfast buffet is sub par. The pool also needs some work.
I won’t be going back unless they change things around drastically.
Overall, we left Turi Beach feeling heavily ripped off by rampant overcharging.
You are better of doing a staycation in Singapore.
