How to Get There
For the price paid and the service received - this hotel is not worth the money (although we could have been unlucky).
The driver of the courtesy bus between the hotel and ferry port was running around like a headless chicken not knowing what to do with all the guests.
Check-in was painfully slow followed by a 30 min wait to be taken to room (it's not possible to negotiate all the stairs with a suitcase etc.
Staff throughout the property seem very disinterested in the guests and it appears that we are a burden when a request is made (e.g. asking for a drink at the pool bar was met with "staff are on a break for lunch".
The Teppanyaki restaurant is the only non-buffet restaurant was a poor experience on the two occasions we visited - yes we visited twice even though we had a poor experience on first occasion simply because the food was good on that occasion and it is the only non-buffet restaurant. On the first occasion, we booked the Teppanyaki bar. Even though we were first to arrive and order before any other guests arrived our food was cooked around other orders, even when the chef says "I will cook your seafood now" he was prompted to do another order not seated at the Teppanyaki bar and we ended up being served rice and waiting another 20mins for our seafood.
We physically made a reservation, in person, for a table (non-Teppanyaki) on the second occasion. A few hours later, we received a phone call to our room to confirm that "we cancelled our booking". When I stated that we had done no such thing I was told "ok - thank you, we will cancel your booking". It took me four times to convince the girl that we had not cancelled and will arrive at 6pm. Again, on this occasion we were first to arrive and ordered from the menu before other guest arrived. The time we waited for the main was excessive and the Ribeye we ordered was probably the worst Ribeye I have ever be served. When our dinner plates were cleared I asked for the dessert menu. After 20mins, and no sign of the dessert menu, I asked for our bill. I had to ask for our bill a further 3 times whilst watching tables around us being offered dessert and there bills.
I have commented before and place reviews on food choices/taste in the resort, we 1st came in 2016 and food are still the same in 2019. No change in menu. I can even memorise the menu as there are no change. However, despite having below average standard for food (for a resort like Turi, one will expect better food standards though), we still choose to make repeat bookings and stay at the resort because we like the ambience and service was still considered acceptable.
Until the recent incident last Saturday ie 10 Aug when we arrived for the Fusion BBQ dinner. I have called from room 114 on Friday evening ie 09 Aug to place a reservations for 4 pax for the Fusion BBQ dinner on 10Aug. I called the extension no 2 as it says Room Service/Restaurant on the room phone. The female staff who took the call took my reservations and even asked me what time will I be there for the dinner, which I told her usually we will be there around 1830-1900hrs as how we normally for our past stays. But when we went over on Saturday evening close to 1900hrs, we were told by the staffs at the registration counter that there are no reservations made for our rooms! And the staff simply said that he cannot do anything about it as alk the tables are full. He asked me for the name of the staff who took my reservations, which I think is not relevant because someone on your side screw up the reservations. I was very furious and started to raise my voice in front of other guests because my children and I are already hungry at that point and we did not expect the resort to make such mistakes. Then the registration counter staff said that they will fix a table for us rightaway but it makes me more angry that they place the table right the back where it was quite dark. So I walked up the stairs where I met a Chinese guy dressed in white shirt and pants. I have no idea who the hell he is, but he asked me how he can help because I was walking off and grumbling loudly. My husband told him that we are very disappointed that the staffs can make such a mistake. But the Chinese quite rude and has NO customer service etiquette at all. Mind you I am in the customer service line about 19 years now, I know how customer service should work, and I expected someone working on Turi Resort to have a certain level of hospitality service standards. And that Chinese has ZERO standard. He even raised his voice and showed his annoyed face at US, we are the bloody guests and we are already angry. NO APOLOGIES, nothing from the resort about the mistake. NOTHING was done to make up for the screw up. So we ended leaving the resort to have our dinner elsewhere. This was the last straw and I have decided NOT to return to the resort anymore. You have lost a customer who has made repeated visits to the resort
Stayed at Harris previously so I came here with family of 2 kids with minimal expectation. Although there was a bit glitch during 2pm check in time (I requested room with double bed and apparently still unavailable after 2:15pm, instead of asking me for other options, I was told to wait around till available. It was only that I suggest whether there is any availability for 2 twin bed then was told that it was and they can offered to me). The room was clean, well air conditioned, wide selection of TV channels and responsive to room service although you must be a bit patient to repeat for then them to understand.
Breakfast was OK, but they must really pay attention to detail as food stuff not cover can easily attract insects n pest in this kind of nature environment... Saw spider crawling in peanut butter, ants at sugar area where tea / coffee are etc.
Impressed to see monkeys and squirrel around, show that they play their part in nature conservation. Beach n Pools are clean as well... Which is not easy as often guests transfer their sand stained feets or swimming costumes to pool.
Overall it was a satisfying enjoyable 3 nights stay and we look forward to return.
