How to Get There
Had a hard time coordinating room reservation to include spa appointments, took many unreturned phone calls to get it coordinated. We also tried to pay to upgrade the spa package to include an Oceanview room, but there seems to be a disconnect between the reservation desk and the actual hotel. Loved the history of the place. Room was clean and comfortable, average sized. The bathroom was amazing with the heated floor. Best staff was the server at breakfast. The massage therapist talked throughout my treatment, even when I’d stay quiet, she would start again. I knew not to ask her to increase pressure because she complained about another client who dared to ask and was told it would be a price upgrade. The hot tub was enjoyable before my massage, but later in the day kids came in from the pool next door, despite the sign stating adults only. It would be nice if this area was reserved for the spa only.
My husband and I had the best time at Wentworth by the Sea when we went in October 2018. This time, it was just mediocre.
The room was an "upgrade" as I am a platinum member and when available I do get these (room 402). The chairs were both torn, the shades were old and took a long time to pull down, the fridge had a very weird smell, like smoked meats or sausage that lingered every time I opened it (I was pumping milk and had to store it), the bathroom, poorly lit.
I understand this is an old hotel, but it would be nice if they reupholstered their chairs if they have holes and better cleaned the fridges.
Turn down service didn't come until about 9pm, and at that point we had already turned in. It would have been very nice to come back to a turned down room after dinner.
Walls were paper thin, we could hear the family next door and their television until they had turned it off and turned in later in the night.
When I called for late checkout, which I needed til noon or 1pm so that I could pump again, I was told I needed to call back after 9am, even though late checkout is guaranteed with my Marriott benefits until 4pm.
We did enjoy breakfast and the staff there. Everyone during the service was friendly and the food was tasty.
We came to celebrate a big birthday, which my husband mentioned to the staff, and it was on my ID at check-in. Not a single staff member wished me a happy birthday, whereas having celebrated my and my husbands birthday at other properties, we are always greeted with a friendly birthday acknowledgement.
All in all, I'm disappointed and will likely try another hotel in the area next time we come up.
We enjoyed a return trip to this historic NH hotel. We love visiting in the off season and spending time exploring the near by shores and Portsmouth. Our room was stunning with great views. The bathroom was huge and the heated floors were a nice touch. We did not take part in the Easter brunch, but brought our own eggs and enjoyed an Easter egg hunt with our kids. Can’t wait to go back.
