How to Get There
We booked a sky view suite for us and our daughter in this hotel. This hotel is located between beautiful surroundings of vineyards. Upon arrival, the signing on the land was poor. First we came out by some private rooms/villa’s. Eventually we saw the main building. Also there, we had to wait for someone to show up to welcome us. After 10 minutes of waiting, we were greeted. The luggage was brought to our room. Our suite was ok, but in need of some renovation. A lot of the furniture and wood used, needs some touching up. We slept under the night sky and saw all the stars, that was cool. Before that, my husband and I drank the offered bottle of espumante in the plunge pool, nice ending of the evening. (Tip: Start filling up the pool a few hours before with some hot water, after diner it will be perfect)
We had our diner in the Michelin-star restaurant. It was ok. Food was good, nothing special. Service was friendly and correct. There is a big window in the restaurant. First, it looks like those are the best seats in the place, but when it is getting dark, you are looking at yourself in the glass. There are no lights outside to enlighten the surroundings. We were with a child, so were put at the side, but that was perfect. They also offer meals for children.
The pool was pretty. We were lucky we could grab some sunbeds and towels. The service was terrible. There should be pool service, but only once every hour a servant came by. They have kind of a ‘poolbar’ with some bottles of gin to show, but that’s it. When we wanted to order some food for lunch the next day, I had to walk inside of the building to place my order. There was 1 guy doing the terrace service and he was supposed to do the pool service too (but didn’t had the time there so far...he said)
In general, pretty hotel, needs some renovation in the rooms but the most important: the service needs the most work. Also the ‘bartender’ was never friendly and he answered always very rude.
I think we might come back in the future when they have taken care of that all.
Portugal is experiencing a proliferation of new interesting places to go to!
L’AND is one of those interesting new concepts...
We took our friends from Downunder to visit a vyneard with a one Michelin star restaurant...
It was approximately that...
There was no reference whatsoever to any wine production...
We left without being able to figure out where this vyneard denomination comes from.
The reception to the place was cold and we had to ask many questions to try to understand what the place was all about. It is a hotel and they also sell plots of land,
we were told.
We had booked for lunch...
Food was extremely good and well presented. Service was below expectations and at times a bit clumsy for a place that claims to be Michelin star level.
It certainly has a huge potential and it is almost there!
However, there is an extra step that needs to be taken to be able to claim to belong to this exclusive club of internationally awarded destinations.
Beautiful and peaceful hotel in Montemor-O-Novo, approximately 1 hr drive from Lisbon. Both outdoor and indoor architecture is spectacular. A good reason to stay here! Rooms are very spacious, and very modern. All interior and furniture is ultra cool, but need to be freshened up some places (e.g. out door furniture). The rooms have very comfortable beds. Bath room was a bit disappointing though. Shower could have been cleaner, toilet seat is too small, and there was a smell when the ventilation was turned off. Also, gardens surrounding the hotel need some more gardening some places - especially the areas around the parking lot in front of the hotel rooms. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant was just fantastic. Food is delicious, and service is impeccable. Two thumbs up for Gonzalo and his colleagues in the restaurant.
This hotel has a great modern Scandinavian/Asian design, that is both interesting and inviting. The spacious room was nice and relaxing, and the Sky-view suite gives you a great opportunity to sleep under the stars when you open the roof-top skylight.
Unfortunately, it just felt that the hotel hand changed management recently. Things were a little disjointed, and they probably needed another 5 or 6 staff. Pool towels were not restocked, meal service was really slow.
Let me start by saying I did not know what to expect. My partner and I just finished a renovation and were exhausted, so we picked a place to relax. With my sister and her family visiting from Brazil we decided to meet in Portugal. I found L’And at Conde Nast and they had this house which look okay and it would fit 5 people. What a wonderful surprise!
The house has 3 suites that are connected by this open plan kitchen and living area. It is SO peaceful with nothing around that the only sound you hear is the far away cows mooing. No picture can do justice to what you will find. Sitting on the porch, drinking a glass of wine and admiring the sunset will stay forever in my memory.
We paid extra for the house to be cleaned daily (as part of the rate, they would come every 2 days) and it was worth it. The closest town has a minimarket and pharmacy which is handy. So if you want peace and quiet to relax, this is your place.
