How to Get There
Great place, fantastic food in Michelin star restaurant, comfortable rooms, amazing nature, very friendly and helpful staff... nice spa and swimming pool... would recommend for a relaxing weekend or more. Lovely place with caracter for peace and nature lovers
We was expecting to have a teslasuperchared available in that place, to fill the expectation to charge the car in the night but... all the electric park were unavailable with none tesla car. This is wrong.
This place is not full fill the tesla requirements.
Four not five. And I"ll try to sum it up concisely. Huge rooms / suites. Everything worked fine in ours, but other guests reported a variety of annoyances, some which could not be addressed to their satisfaction. The architect while more successful with the main buildings somehow failed to give the accommodations the warmth and style they needed. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the hotel required more of them. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner very good although I'm not sure Michelin level. Loved hanging out at the pool in the late afternoon. Well designed, surrounded by grass and more than enough comfortable lounges, all with umbrellas. It was sunny and in the mid nineties when we stayed there.
One last note. They make wine there, although you would never know it unless you saw the huge stainless steel tanks on view. I've never been to a winery where no effort, none, is made to show you their facilities, or their wine for that matter. They only make one (!) red. No info on the label so you don't know what combination of grapes are used (Alentejo wines typically use 2-3 or more). That said, it was still pretty good.
We stayed 2 nights. The facility has everything that you want. We ate casual the first day. Our meals were not traditional Portuguese fare, but were uniquely designed with high quality. We were fortunate enough to have warm weather for the season, so we used the outside pool. The indoor pool is nice too. Both have comfortable seating for relaxation. The staff was attentive, nice, and polished. The tasting menu, paired with wines, was out of this world; it offered not only an expansive meal, but an education on the food and, especially, the wines. I am not anything close to a wine connoisseur, but enjoyed learning about the wines and tasting the differences. I would highly recommend staying here.
A fact that is good to know is that I sent an e-mail to L’and after receiving one from them with the request to let them know if our stay at L'and was less than perfect. I sent them the exact same text as follows, as well as an additional complaint which I do not mention in this review, for which they should only be grateful. 2 weeks later, still no answer.
L’and is quite a big resort with lots of space and unfortunately no warmth or charm, and unfortunately more negatives rather than positives.
• The furniture is quite worn down and the small details are missing.
• The taps in the bathroom were all wobbly.
• The wardrobe in the bathroom had 4 hangers and no shelves.
• The loudspeaker inside the room only works with a very old model of phone.
• Coffee cup in room was dirty upon check-in, yet we had to wait until 3:30 pm for our room to be ready.
• Inside the wardrobe we found a used G-string, disgusting.
• At turndown our first night the only thing they had done was to leave some candy on the pillow. They had not left any drinking water and they had not cleaned anything, our empty bottle was still on the table.
• A LOT of kids when we were there making a lot of noise, not what we’re used to visiting a vineyard/Spa resort.
• The water sprinklers were turned on automatically at a curtain time, which they totally forgot to mention, and they were right next to our porch, which made it quite impossible to walk around. Ok, it was late in the evening, however they should have told us.
On the plus side the service at reception was good, they were friendly and welcoming, and attentive… and that’s about it. One additional plus was the complimentary sparkling wine delivered to our room upon arrival. Rest of the staff members are not attentive. When sitting by the pool area we saw one member of staff twice in 4 hours, she stayed for 1 minute serving some guests and she didn’t bother to look around to see if anyone else needed attention. At lunch several guests, including myself, tried to open a door, which was locked, to locate any staff members and get served. Finally, we went up to reception to get someone. They didn’t bother to bring menus until we asked for them. The dish we ordered was not available anymore they told us 25 minutes after ordering. To bring and open a bottle of wine took them 45 minutes, like what? Really?
Water is only included by one bottle a day per room, which is quite greedy considering the rates. Why not offer tap/ice water by the pool? Also, there are 3 tables to 24 sun beds. They didn’t clean the pool area once during our entire stay, when new guests arrived they had to call upon attention by staff to come and prepare some sun beds. No snacks offered to go with drinks, how about complimentary nuts or olives. Grass by the pool is wet and gooey, because they water it so much at night that it doesn’t get dry in the day because of the shades from the trees. Any foot wear will get dirty, I saw several people washing their feet and sandals in the pool because of it.
They offer a “wine tasting” between 4pm - 5 pm, which consists of ONE wine (the only one they had during our stay, and this is a vineyard?!) and one single pouring a 0,5 dL, like whaaat? This is supposed to be a vineyard. And the person serving the drops cannot even answer simple questions about grapes or production, like “how much wine do you produce per year”.
L'and is not even close to the five stars they have, just a complete disaster.
