My first hotel
Reviewed 2 days ago

Edsa Shangri-La is one of the best luxury hotels in Manila. The stay was not just comfortable but extra ordinary. Even though it was back in 2006, I still remember the hotel vividly. This was apparently my first international visit and also first stay outside of India. ESL, was just out of the world and all the amenities were well done. The view form the 18th floor in which I was put up was nothing less than beautiful.

Not an International Hotel, more a local hang out.

Ok, so here’s the deal, if your thinking top food, service and quality. Sure the Shangri-La is top of your list, along with the Dust right ?, sadly wrong.

So, having stayed at the Markati one, I mean the best hotel in Manila right?, and the Gen, again part of the same group, you would have very high expectations.

So, having flown for approx 16 hours, survived the Manila traffic, geez.. did we need a decent welcome and hotel.

On check, excellent security, we never felt uneasy, a swift entrance to check in, and it started to go down hill.

We had booked a Club room, with many excellent benefits, but did not now were it was, the lady just said down the hall on the left ....
So we did this finding nothing. Went back to ask again, and was told i just told you, down the hall on the left..... sometimes it’s easier to walk away. So we asked a porter, who showed us the way, yes down the hall, yes left.... but then left again, up a private lift to the club room floor...... gzzzzzzzz

The service in the clubhouse room was a bit more polite, but you had to constantly had to ask for the basic things, a tea spoon, sugar, Coke, was any hot food coming out ?, let’s remember hear, you paid extra for all this....

About 95% of the guests were locals, whom seem to readily expect the general poor standards everywhere.

I guess the icing on the cake was the feeling of a hotel trapped still in the 80’s, feeling rather tired everywhere.

Positives.... kids loved the pool area.

I looked up other reviews before writing this, and it seemed to bear out a lot of our observations.

If you paying top money for a top hotel, we did not feel it was unfair to expect this.

No we will not be returning.

A home in Manila

I stayed at the Shangri-La for 5 weeks and just loved it there. The rooms were comfy, the service was great and the location was awesome- located between two malls so plenty of access to restaurants and grocery stores so you do not feel cooped up in the hotel all the time. I had lounge access which was also wonderful and the staff in the lounge are so kind and helpful! The pool was great too, though it gets crowded so go early and get a seat! Working in front of the pool at night was also nice too. Would highly recommend!

Excellent Anniversary Stay

Decided to stay in Edsa Shangri-La to celebrate our anniversary. We would like to commend the following people for making sure that this stay would be one of the most memorable experience we had. Ricky of Concierge, Sonny and Butch of Housekeeping, Lala, Mitch and Charles/Franz of Horizon Club. Thank you for making us feel valued and part of your family. We are definitely coming back!

Great people, beautiful people actually.
Facilities in part a little tired such as rooms, main dining breakfast restaurant and pool...
Gym and Chi Spa excellent.
Over servicing meant that several people would react and therefore would end up forgetting you thinking someone else was attending to you.. or you'd end up with 2x coffees or 2x grab cars..
or no coffee and no car..

All in all, beautiful people, nice hotel... I'll return with a little more planning
