How to Get There
One of the service here is the staff will wait for us at the airport and arrange the transit to hotel. When we arrived at the airport, we immediate found the Jen hotel staff, and were told that we need to wait for another couple to go together. He advised us to sit in the nearby area to wait.
After that we waited for 30mins in that area... so I wanted to check with the staff but I couldn’t find him. After another 20min my husband finally found the staff, and were told that he didn’t see us so didn’t inform us for the transit, the another couple have gone!!! He said he can arrange another one in 5 mins!!! We end up waited for an hour and it’s just 5 min boat to the hotel!!!
The time is like 11ish there at night (2am in my home time), and we had to catch the seaplane the next day at 5am!!!
This is terrible! I can’t believe this hotel belongs to shangri la group!
If you’re going to get in late in Male’ and have a boat to pick you up the next day, this a great place to stay overnight. The staff is very friendly and helpful from the moment they meet you at the airport. They direct you to a quick 5 minute water taxi to the hotel, all the while taking care of all your luggage. The front desk is quick to get you in your room that is stocked with water and even fresh fruit for a snack. Place is comfortable, clean and quiet. It is also directly across the jetty and near cafes and banks.
There is a small Banjaa Cafe around the corner that is very yummy and cheap (pics below).
Just finished a one night stay at the Hotel Jen and am very pleased. It was the perfect layover hotel. The room is small but well appointed with just about everything you need...except washcloths. That’s a little strange. But otherwise, just lovely.
The bed is firm and comfortable, the shower is plenty large with both a handheld nozzle and a waterfall head. The breakfast on the first floor was excellent- a full spread of just about anything. No cappuccino or espresso though...only coffee. I think because there is a cafe on the ground floor...which has all sorts of goodies for purchase.
Though the room was a bit humid when I walked in, when you put the AC on, it worked like a charm. It’s generally quiet at night; no noise issues when using a white noise app.
The rooftop pool is beautiful and there is a small, but workable gym on the roof as well.
The surrounding area is littered with many shops but mostly residential type of shops. Lots of gelato and cafes! Mostly illy coffee served from what I saw.
One downside: the coffee shop in the lobby has some sort of a smoking room. So when you’re waiting for pick up, the lobby smells of smoke. Not a deal breaker...just unfortunate.
For a short stint, I would absolutely recommend this hotel. Don’t look anywhere else!
We stayed one night at the Hotel Jen after missing our international flight due to issues with our transfer flight.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who took care of everything including keeping us informed of our re booked flight and ensuring we got to the airport on time.
Lovely breakfast buffet!
It isn’t the quality of the resorts in the Maldives but serves its purpose well as a transit hotel.
Male is a crammed island with nothing whatsoever to attract the tourist... except as a means of getting to other islands. This is a practical hotel for just that, but dont waste time visiting this island, as an experienced traveller and avid sightseer i promise you it really is not worth it when you consider what the resorts have to offer.
