Ok, Male can be a little rough. The staff at Hotel Jen make it all smooth with great transport, excellent rooms and nice amenities.
They greet you and take you in speedboat to your hotel where the staff was eager to help us start our Maldives holiday. The had great communication with the Conrad and never missed a beat.
The little restaurant was just fine for grabbing a quick bite.
In a tough little city, this hotel was a nice oasis.

Decent Hotel - Reception is not the Easiest to Work but Other Parts of Hotel are Fine

Honestly, I am not sure why someone would come to Male other than for business or to visit friends and families, in which case you would probably stay with relatives or friends. If you are on vacation or a holiday, there is no reason to visit Male. Most likely you would be staying at one of the island resorts. The city is fine, but there is really nothing to see or do. It does have a small fish and fruits market that is interesting and some great small cafes around the city, but there are no real tourist things. I was even told by a local to skip the National Museum. That being said, if you are staying in Male, Hotel Jen is fine but not great. I heard there is a very cute and clean guesthouse near by at the Siam Thai restaurant. A colleague stayed there and loved it. If I come back for work, I will give it a try. A few points on the Hotel Jen. First thing, the room cleaning person was lovely. The room was clean, and they left extras of towels and tea when I asked for it. The restaurant staff and coffee shop staff are great too. All the servers were professional and polite. This includes the coffee shop in the lobby that has tasty fruit drinks and baked goods, Lime restaurant on the second floor, and the rooftop restaurant. Definitely go to the rooftop for a drink and a meal even if not staying at Hotel Jen. It is a nice setting. The hotel has a pool and gym on the top level, both of which seemed clean, but I did not use them. The room itself had a comfortable bed with a working air con and plenty of hot water. The water pressure was not great, but I do not know if that is because of the hotel or just Male. The hallways do smell a little moldy, but I think that is because Male is so humid. They do need to work on this a bit better though. The main issue I had was with reception. On the surface, they seem to be helpful. However, when you ask about things, it was always a hassle. For example, I had to travel to other islands for work. Inquiring about the boat to the airport was not easy. I would ask the day before (which seemed appropriate and reasonable to me), and I was told to the ask the day of. I am pretty sure they know when they are running the boats or when they can run the boats. I asked for a late check-out a couple of days in advance, and I was told I would find out the morning of my departure. This sort of defeats the purpose of a late check-out in my opinion. Keep in mind that they had already told me they were not full, because it is the rainy season. I also had to change my reservation due to a work trip, and they were not helpful about the change. They charging me for one night, which I was fine with because the notice was late. I acknowledged that was my fault. However, they wanted to argue a bit about the second night even though it was more than 24 hours in advance. I did not appreciate the back and forth especially since I stated I knew one night was my responsibility. I have been to many places throughout Asia for work, and this reception staff was one of the least helpful. Please note it was not everyone. There was a young woman with a pony tail hairstyle that was very sweet and a taller man who was also helpful. Overall, Hotel Jen is a decent place to stay, but I do not know why you would visit Male in the first place.

Great hotel, would definitely stay again

Stayed here for 2 nights pre-dive liveaboard and had a day room on the way back from our dive trip. Hotel was very nice, room was clean & modern. Can't fault the staff, who were so professional and courteous. Pick up & drop off transfers to airport were seamless. Was particularly happy with the food at Lime restaurant and the room service. The hotel is in the city so no ocean views, but the perfect place to stay if you want to curl up in bed and relax with some wifi whilst recovering from your jet lag or dive trip. Would highly recommend, and would not hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed here for two nights prior to joining a liveaboard SCUBA diving trip in the Maldives. Overall, I was quite particularly impressed by the level of service and hospitality on this trip. At the airport, I was promptly greeted by one of the hotel's friendly staff and taken to the speedboat which brought me to Male and subsequently to the hotel.

I was assigned a room at the 9th floor overlooking the city. Everything is in order when I got into my room. Had breakfast at the café in the morning where they have a good western and Maldivian spread.

Upon departure, I was dropped off at the airport and the same staff who greeted me during arrival helped me with my bags, brought me to our group's meeting place asked if I would need help contacting the liveaboard operator.

Will definitely stay at Hotel Jen in my future visits to the Maldives.

Great hotel - bad reception experience

Had a great time staying here - loved the rooftop pools and the room was great. Had an ocean view room from the 12th floor. Hotel is behind other buildings - not directly on the water - so your ocean view will have other buildings in the way. Room was ok size and modern bathroom. Ate breakfast at Lime and it was the usual large choice buffet. Ate an amazing dinner at Azure on the rooftop. Food was very good - highly recommend it - and it wasn’t overly expensive at all.

Only downside to the hotel was the incompetent reception staff. We’d prepaid our room via the Hotel’s Golden Circle site. Yet in checking in they said it hadn’t been paid and wanted us to pay again - despite us having a receipt and showing where it had been charged from my credit card. On checkout a different receptionist tried the same ruse. So again had to go through the whole process of showing receipt and credit card statement. She offered no apology when she finally had to agree I had paid. This was a very unpleasant start and end to the Jen experience.

Be wary of this if you prepay and take a copy of your actual receipt and bank statement as proof.
