Been there, done that in Greece? Bypass the tourist trail and explore some of the country’s inland treasures with a stay at Villa Vager, a charming retreat in the Peloponnese with breathtaking views of lush mountains, hilltop villages and pine forest from an altitude of 900 meters. The inmate escape is home to just 10 rooms, all decked out with exposed stone walls, beam ceilings, dark furnishings and characterful features like cozy fireplaces, lanterns and antiques. All bathrooms come with underfloor heating, bathrobes and Molton Brown toiletries. A homemade breakfast buffet is served daily and is laden with Greek produce including thick yogurt, honey, olive bread, kaseri cheese and strong Greek coffee. There’s no restaurant onsite but there are traditional tavernas within walking distance in the village of Levidi. The hotels’s star attraction is a giant alfresco hot tub, positioned to take in the awesome views of the surrounding countryside.
In the Area
The property is around a two-hour drive from Athens, and a 20-minute drive from Tripoli, the capital of the Peloponnese. The hotel can arrange tons of activities in the local area including cooking lessons, wine tours and tastings in the Mantineia wine region, quad biking in the mountains and kayaking on the Ladonas River. Ancient sites in the surrounding Arcadia region include Epidaurus with its 4th-century amphitheater and Olympia, the site of the Olympic Games between the 8th-century BC to the 4th century AD.
How to Get There
We chose this hotel because it was pretty much in the middle of the Peloponnese and from there we were able to do and see so much. We had no idea how beautiful this area of Greece is! The hotel itself was charming, intimate, and friendly. Marina was helpful and welcoming from beginning to end. I wish we had also booked at their Mani hotel, but hopefully we will be back one day.
I arrived feeling like I was at home. The owner greets you like a friend and ready to make your stay comfortable and memorable. You feel like you're at home. Stavos (and the other staff) is very hospitable and welcoming. They all make you feel like extending your stay. There's mush to do in this area and great for the active adventurist(call and get your tours set up). They have vineyards close by, yay !!! It's a beautifully decorated with classy elegance. There's a relaxing courtyard where you could leave your worries and busy life. Your glass of wine in the courtyard awaits you !! The view is amazing !! I was able to destress from my busy work life. I was upgraded to an amazing suite (upon availability of course) which shows they want you to be happy !!! I highly recommend you make this part of your itinerary.
Great stay and great hosts. Lovely room, well appointed and thought out. Fantastic views from balcony. Lovely dog. Close to town square where had a couple of great lunches/dinners. Great value compared to Athens
A really outstanding place, in an exceptional site with an unique panorama to the valley.
One of the best guesthouse I had in my multiple Greek travels. Exceptional situation. Top decoration, nice welcome of the owner and staff. Worth a detour if not the travel.
Jean Klimis. Brussels.
We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite which I highly recommend the views are unbelievably gorgeous. We visited Arcadia region for less than a week with this as our base, April, 2019,
The food was wonderful and every request met immediately. Definitely a must stay in the are of Greece!
