The true highlight of this property, though, is undoubtedly the breathtaking Lake Maggiore. Locanda Pozzetto boasts a scenic location in a large natural bay on Lake Maggiore. The old farmhouse is surrounded by 10 acres of lush green gardens, and with its position beside Italy’s second largest lake, you couldn’t wish for a more peaceful spot. Start with a ferry trip around the lake, before exploring the local culture. It’s a five-minute drive to the picturesque town of Laveno, where you can check out the Church of Santo Stefano, the Alfredo Binda Museum, and the oratory of Santa Maria di Corte, decorated with recently restored 16th-Century frescoes. For a lovely day trip, take the two-hour train ride or 90-minute drive to Milan and explore Italy’s fashion capital.
How to Get There
The reviews for the food are good, but we didn’t get the chance to eat here because although we booked a room, we didn’t get a table reservation so had to eat out. Then we had to suffer the noise of people enjoying dinner right below our window until midnight, then the noise of clearing up. The room was clean but basic, and no water provided, except in the mini bar at 2euros for a small bottle. Stupid.
Breakfast was badly organised. Had to go in to the kitchen to find someone to ask for coffee. Nothing special. The room was overpriced. Why would we book a room up in the hills above town if we didn’t want to eat there? Why wouldn’t the hotel ask us if we needed to reserve a table? The whole experience was annoying and expensive.
Up 100 metres over Laveno
My room very comfortable, two small balconies with views to Switzerland and beyond
Delicious breakfast, the most yellow of scrambled eggs ever
Great place to recover after a bicycle ride, guzzle a beer, and gaze at the remarkable view
We only stayed here for one night but wished it had been more. We stayed in a deluxe double room with lake view. It was a huge room with everything in it you could possible want. When we booked the hotel I did realise that the restaurant was closed, so we picked up a picnic on the way to the hotel. They were fine with us having a picnic, telling us where would be the nicest place in the gardens to have it. They even opened our bottle of wine for us.
A most relaxing afternoon and evening spent it the grounds watching the lake below and the sun going down. The breakfast was delicious and very varied, the most enjoyable scrambled eggs.
