How to Get There
First time to Harbour Village and we can't wait to go back. We've been to many special resorts in the Caribbean and have enjoyed each place for one or another aspect -- the room, the views, the amenities, or the activities, etc. But Harbour Village checked off everything on our list.
It's a small, luxury resort. Beautiful rooms, amazing views (especially the sunsets), calm, crystal clear water, superb amenities. Quiet (we enjoy peaceful places where the "noise" comes mostly from birds singing and the rustle of the wind through the palms). The staff -- every single person we encountered -- was pleasant, helpful, and genuinely friendly. I dislike naming people because I'm afraid I'll forget someone, but I'll try. Gonzalo at La Balandra made each day a little more special for us by remembering what we liked and offering good ideas and simply conversing; Chef Luis is not only an extraordinary chef, but he has a great personality, too. My husband hasn't stopped talking about the tuna three ways and the chef even gave me a couple of recipes. He and Carlos presented the best beach barbecue we've had in the islands -- no greasy burgers and over-cooked chicken here. The shrimp and the chorizo and the beef kabobs were great, as was the salad dressed with a mango vinaigrette. (See my additional review for the restaurant La Balandra).
And there was Quincy, of course, at the bar whose drinks impressed my husband so much that he kept checking his watch every day to make sure he didn't miss happy hour. No wonder Quincy has a following! We so enjoyed meeting the manager Melissa, who gave us ideas for things to see and do and shared great stories about the hotel and island. Isabel, Anne, and Sharon in the office were full of helpful info and arranged an island tour, taxis, etc. to make our stay interesting and fun. We enjoyed talking with Rodger who picked us up and then ferried us back to the airport and was always in good spirits when I ran into him occasionally on my morning walks. We learned a lot of small, interesting details about island life. There are so many good things about this resort and the people who work there are at the top of the list.
The water was calm, clear, and full of fish. My husband loved snorkeling, being able to just walk off the beach and into the water and see more species than he has seen snorkeling or even diving on some other islands. The dive shop gets rave reviews all around.
The rooms were immaculate and were mysteriously cleaned every morning while we were at breakfast and the staff were all lovely to meet.
We met guests from Austria, England, Holland, Italy, Venezuela. What a great and unexpected experience to have on a small island. Many were coming back to a place they loved. All good signs. Next time we'll be one of those people!
I have absolutely no complaints about Harbour Village except that we could not stay longer! We came back to the cold with snow in the forecast, wishing we could turn around and go right back.
We have stayed at Harbour Village about 6 times. We must like it since we keep going back. The layout is excellent and we especially like the 2 bedroom condos that are literally 100' from your door to the water. The only amenity lacking is a clothes washer and dryer in the rooms. The kitchen is tiny but sufficient for breakfast and lunch. Bonaire has plenty of great restaurants for dinner. Get "Dick" to drive you to town for dinner. He is a delight.
The rooms are outdated however the staff is wonderful. The mattress in our room was very old and pillows terrible If possible bring your own
The food at the a Balandra was average. Wine selection very limited. Fish always over cooked ... Consistent problem with all the restaurants we visited with the exception of Capriccio and Patagonia.
Diving center good but make sure you don't get stuck with a group of skin divers on the same boat.
The staff really makes the difference they are very professional and go out of there way and solve any issue in a heart beat.
terrible service and restaurant staff was very unfriendly, other than that everything else was perfect! the front desk is very amazing as is the rest of the resort staff, very discouraged by the restaurant, almost dreaded eating a meal there
From the moment we checked in we knew this hotel is special! The staff is so unbelievably accommodating and friendly. Hospitality at the highest level. The restaurant was excellent and always had a variety of food options and of course fresh fish! You can see in the attached picture Chef Louis personally bring a fresh lobster to our table. Water sports right at the hotel, a dive shop a short walk up the beach. If you want a tour of the island, I would recommend you get in contact with Casper (email@example.com). He was a lot of fun and knowledgeable. A fair and honest cab driver was Dick, cab number 38. A must visit is Jive City. Great lunch and hangout place. The beach at this hotel has a lot of broken coral right as you walk into the water. So bring your water shoes.
