Set in lush grounds overlooking the city’s largest park and the Victoria Memorial, this luxe retreat is located in Kolkata’s affluent Alipore neighborhood. There’s no escaping the opulence on arrival: The towering five-story atrium is dotted with traditional and modern Indian artworks, antiques and ancient terra-cotta reliefs. The elegant interiors are courtesy of US-based master architect Bob Fox.
Bed & Bath
While the 229 guestrooms are not overly spacious (Deluxe Rooms start at 260 square feet), there are plenty of plush features to ensure a comfortable stay (sumptuous cushions, armchairs and a handy work area.) The fifth-floor Club Rooms feature delightful bay windows overlooking the city and the Suites have a palatial feel with large living areas and butler service. The bathrooms all feature tubs and showers, and Forest Essential products.
The dining options are extensive and cover Mediterranean, Chinese and traditional Indian and Bengali cuisines. Outside, The Hub is a casual bistro and buffet by the pool while The Chambers restaurant is a fancy fine dining spot that serves international dishes. In all there are nine food venues catering to international and exotic tastes. The Signature Taj Spa offers traditional Indian aromatherapy massages and treatments, body scrubs and wraps, and there’s a huge gym next door.
In the Area
The Taj Bengal’s convenient central location means that it’s an easy stroll to nearby attractions like the Victoria Memorial, the Royal Calcutta Race Course, the Horticulture Gardens, the National Library and the Zoological Gardens. Beyond that, the fascinating and historic city of Kolkata can be explored at leisure by taxi or a with dedicated driver and guide. Shopping is a key feature in the city with a mind-boggling range of Kantha embroidery, terra-cotta urns and figurines, fine silk and cotton saris, ‘Kalighat’ paintings, genuine antiques, vintage furniture and original works of art. The bustling flower market at Malik Ghat, near the Howrah Bridge, is a must see.
How to Get There
this is what u expect when u enter a TAJ. Good people , Good property. The only thing which disappointed me was the food. The Paneer paratha did not had paneer. But the waitress was kind enough to offer another one as per my desire but that was no the point.
Wonderful place for a single female traveller if it fits your budget.
Taj Bengal could by far surpass the best hotels in the world. It feels like one of those timeless hotels that have always been around and from the time you step in, it keeps you ensconced in warmth.
Everyone is smiling and all staff are content. Some have worked all their lives in this hotel. So its not just the hotel systems that know you are a repeat guest, but also the many faces that give you that smile of familiarity.
But for the size of the room which was not expected from a Taj property, the stay was awesome.
Had a lovely time having to swim at the lovely pool, good work out at the gym and evening stroll at the lobby after dinner. Made the most of it.
I think it's the best hotel of kolkata .The hotel has its own swimming pool .Here's security is very good .The hotel is near to market .It has elevator. The hotel is good for senior citizen and children.
This iconic hotel continues to maintain its legendary superb standards. Besides the plush comfort of the rooms, the high standards of the other facilities such as the gym and spa, and the wide range of great food at the restaurants, the very high quality of its staff make a stay at the hotel a memorable experience.
