11 days in paradise

Ihuru is a very little, very private island with direct beach access from every villa. Absolutely friendly staff, clean and luxurious rooms. The house reef runs around the whole island and is very easy to access. It was the perfect Maldives vacation for us and we will come again, for sure. :)

Ihuru - excellent value, friendly staff and amazing spa

One of the best value resorts in the Maldives, the rooms are beautiful, the staff extremely friendly and the spa both high quality and great value for money. My only small gripe was the food, but for the price of the resort this can easily overlooked when compared to other resorts charging 2-3 times the price for rooms. Extremely welcoming staff.highly recommended

Great start to our honeymoon!

My husband and I planned a 10-day honeymoon in the Maldives in January 2019. We chose to spend 1 night at Angsana, 1 night at neighboring Banyan Tree and the rest of our time at Joali, a new resort in the Raa Atoll.

The reason we did this is because we were late to the game in planning our honeymoon so we couldn't get two nights in either Angsana or Banyan Tree as one was full one night and the other was full the other night. Staying at both resorts, however, turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

We stayed at Angsana first and if your'e thinking of splitting your time between the two, I would recommend this order as Banyan Tree is more luxurious (although our villa at Angsana was great too).

The island is tiny and they only have beach villas, but the villas were very nice and you got a private garden with direct beach access. Two things really stood out for us. First, the service was impeccable. Everyone was warm and welcoming, they really went out of our way to make our stay memorable. Secondly, the house reef and snorkeling are fantastic.

If you're looking at Angsana and Banyan tree, chances are, you've heard about the great house reefs, and they lived up to expectations! But, to compare the two, Angsana's house reef is closer to the island which makes it more accessible and easier if you're a beginner. There are also 5 fairly evenly spaced channels to get in and out of the reef so you can snorkel for a long time or just for a few minutes. We saw a ton of fish, even though coral bleaching has destroyed a lot of the coral (this happened all around the world, so this is not unique to Angsana). We also snorkeled at Banyan Tree and I would say snorkeling at Angsana was just a more pleasant experience for me.

Angsana and Banyan tree are just a 5 minute boat ride away and they run shuttle boats in between so you really can experience both islands even if you stay on one, but again, we really liked getting to experience both overnight.

Just a final word to set expectations. The Maldives is VERY expensive all around and we spent more on our night at Angsana than we had on any other hotel/resort ever (with the exception of Banyan Tree and Joali which were even more expensive). Was the experience amazing, yes, but you should set your expectations. I would classify this as a very luxurious resort by most standards but only mid-tier by Maldives standards. In the Maldives, you can spend more and you can certainly get more. But even though we stayed at more "luxurious" places in the Maldives in the following days, there is a part of me that can't stop thinking about how wonderful Angsana was and that says a lot.
