How to Get There
This was our second visit to Lily Beach, and yet again it was astonishing at the level of excellence and professionalism the resort provides in every detail.
Like the first time we stayed in the Sunset Water Villa. This is the flagship apartment that comes with a full butler service. We were looked after by Shifau, and he could not do enough for us. This man is a total asset to the business. His professionalism was stunning, yet he had a great sense of humour to go with it.
Sadly due to our airline messing us about in Qatar we missed the connecting flight.
I am an amputee and needed wheelchair assistance. This was pre booked for all of our travelling and wasn’t without its problems. That is for another review though.
Due to the late arrival we missed the original sea plane to the resort. Having sent an email warning lily beach of what had happened, they rearranged everything for us, leaving us without any further worries.
Arrival in Malé was perfect. We were met off the plane with a wheelchair who took us direct to the Lily Beach rep. Unlike some companies, Lily Beach has its own designated area so is very easy to find even if it’s your first time in going. Our luggage was taken for us and we were escorted to a car that drove to the Lily Beach lounge. Most companies use hot un-air conditioned buses to escort their customers.
The lounge staff are very friendly and helpful. We were welcomed back, and given a coffee and water. It’s a lovely cool room, with comfy seating which is just what you need to relax in after such a long distance journey.
As I have already said all the changes to our final stage of travel had been sorted out by the resort staff. We were well past the time of usual arrival and as such arrived in the evening to the resort. It’s such a magical feeling, seeing the resort lit up at night. Our butler introduced himself and began his work of making our stay so relaxing. Driving us by golf buggy to the suite.
Walking through those doors once again was simply stunning. It’s such a large suite, made up of three rooms; a bathroom with jacuzzi bath, outdoor yet totally private shower and toilet. A day room with extra large day bed, huge tv, coffee machine, and two inclusive mini bars packed with everything from Tattinger to fruit juice.
The third room is the bedroom that comes with a very impressive bed and another tv. It also has a view to die for, and waking up in the morning too see the flat ocean with sun beaming down is a sight to behold.
The resort has numerous restaurants, all of which are above and beyond what you would wish for. Plus room service can bring you what ever your heart desires. If you have a butler he will collect and drive you to your meal. He will also make every meal special by waiting on you hand and foot if you wish.
The star restaurant is the Tamarind, which is available for evening meals once per week of stay unless you have a Sunset Water Suite, and you can eat their every night. Having tables that are over the water with the fish, and in our case baby sharks makes it a meal like no other on earth. The Tai and Indian inspired food is that of any top restaurant. Plus if it’s your anniversary the table may be laid with stunning flowers from around the island.
The main restaurant has choices from around the world to suit all needs. In the evenings there is often inspired nights, such as Italian night. Again the food is to a high standard, and the deserts are enough to fulfill even the sweetest of tooth. If you wish, you can book the private table under an open gazebo in its own jetty. This is very romantic and makes for a special occasion.
If you wish to be adult free you may want to eat at Aqua. We didn’t this time as Tamarind kept us mare than happy. It’s evening menu is classical french or sea food.
As for day time activities, the house reef is enough to keep anyone happy all day. The vast array of sea life is breathtaking. Just be careful of the sun as you concentrate on the hundreds of different fish and creatures under the water. For those wishing to go deeper, the island has a dive centre for all levels.
I won’t list all the activities available, but we swam with the Whale sharks and Manta rays this time around. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and something to take away in the memory for life. Just remember they are swimming in the ocean, and even as good as the team looking for them are, if the fish are not there, they can’t be found.
New to the activities from our last visit is the Hammock land. A five minute speed boat ride away on its own floating pontoon placed next to a little reef. Totally on its own and blissfully quiet. Complete with Hammock, bed, fruit and drinks. We watched the sunset from this as we lay on the bed totally relaxed.
The next activity is something I think is so brilliant it’s genius. Called Penguin you are inside a semi submerged glass tank with views of under the sea and the reef, from the beauty of the dry. What’s more it can move via a small motor. We watched the evening fish feeding from the seats within. Totally surrounded by sharks, rays and huge fish, all rushing for the food thrown from above. It was up there as one of the best things I’ve ever done. Although so was the Hammock land and Whale shark excursion.
There are many more daily activities all creating a lifetime of memories. I haven’t got the time to mention them all.
In summary, I can not explain in words how amazing this resort is. When I say we had a letter in our room from the general manager, who had introduced himself personally to us just days earlier, you will get the idea of the lengths that are gone to in order to make such a special holiday. The island is beautiful in every way, and the accommodation is good enough to live in (and I wish I could). If you are able to spend your time in a Sunset Water Suit, then I highly recommend it. The service provided from your personal butler makes a special holiday a step above and beyond what you can think possible. Even the room cleaning team help to make your stay perfect, by surprises like heart shaped flowers placed in such beautiful detail on the bed, whilst you are away having dinner.
I have stayed in many beautiful places in my life. Lily Beach is by far the best.
For a Diving experiance I have not seen anything better (so far). The Resort is very well kept and the the food is delicious and the Service is perfect. People are very nice.. The shift in positioning of the resort towards a Family Resort may become challanging for couples. The house reef has seen better times in the past.
Just left lily beach today with great sadness after an amazing holiday in the Maldives.
I had researched my accommodation for a long while before booking at Lily Beach and departed on my journey with some uncertainty regarding the choice I had made.
I can honestly say that I have absolutely no regret with having chosen Lily Beach.
From the point of Checking in to the point of departure I felt like I was a royal guest. These was no issue that wasn’t immediately addressed and resolved with a smile. The service levels were great. It’s not often that one finds an all inclusive hotel where the staff are as efficient, happy and willing to assist as we found at Lily Beach.
The all inclusive package is simply overwhelming. I have never been to a buffet with 4 different types of lettuce, 4 different styles of cooked prawns, multiple cooking stations with ingredients fresher than I could buy at home in an upmarket grocery store.
The wine and cheese selection is outstanding as are the options for dining, although once you have eaten at Lily Ma, you will want to eat there every night.
There’s two things that one must do while there:
1) eat Mahommed’s fresh grilled fish at the Lily Ma buffet which is undoubtedly the best grilled fish I have eaten anywhere in the world;
2) go for the sunset hammock excursion. It’s the best trip for total isolation in the sea. You are left alone for 3 hours floating in seclusion in the sea with snacks and champagnes until sunset. The snorkeling and sunset are without doubt some of the best you will ever experience .your trip to lily beach will not be complete until you have done this.
Don’t have the floating breakfast. It’s simply not worth the price.
A special thank you to Mahommed, the worlds best fish chef, Sharad who took care of us totally and Hind, who on every late notice adjusted all of our travel arrangements just so that we could spend a few more hours on the island.
Thank you to all of you for making this a special week for us.
When the weather switch and entering the restaurant you get a warmed up towel instead of
a chilled one .. you realize how much attention
to every single detail
And really beatiful
Travelled from Canada, a long trip but well worth it. The resort is amazing. The food is 5+ stars. The staff is very friendly. We stayed in an over water villa which was perfection. The resort is very clean, well organized and quiet. We had massages at the spa which were the best! Everything at this resort exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend. We will be going back!
