Excellent service in a historic property
Reviewed 2 months ago

After two stays at this hotel I can highly recommend it. The rooms are museum like and grand, also very comfortable. The bathrooms are a bit small however that did not matter. The location is a great base for exploring the region. The hotel has a good restaurant and selection of wines. I look forward to our next stay.

Stay here please, you won’t be disappointed

My wife and I decided to visit the Piedmont as an additional stop on our tour of Northern Italy and Southern Switzerland and we are so glad we did. The wine, the people, the food, the wine! We found Castello di Guarene and decided to book it after we saw it is a Relais and Chateau property. They have a property back home in the North Carolina mountains that we frequent and have had great experiences with some other locations as well.

The staff was excellent through the booking process all the way until we left the property. Everyone spoke English (which we found was not common in the region) and worked hard to ensure we had an excellent stay. The room was great. We had a terrace that looked out over Guarene and across the valley to Barbaresco. Stunning views.

The castle itself is simply that, a castle, with all the modern amenities and comforts inside you would expect from a modern luxury hotel. The bar & billiards rooms were great. There is a wonderful dining room for dinner as well as a bistro for a more casual dining experience. We used both and we’re very happy with the quality and service. Breakfast was substantial and was perfect for us. There apparently are many other wonderful restaurants and cafes to enjoy in the area - we did not try them and they are a ways, you would likely need a car or a taxi to get there.

My wife thoroughly enjoyed the spa and the pool area is one of the best I have been to. Make sure you take the time for a short walk through the garden at dusk, wonderful views of the surrounding countryside as well of your hotel.

We took the train into town, the hotel arranged for our transportation to and from the train station. We arrived in Alba and departed from Asti. I would recommend traveling in and out of Alba if you choose to arrive by train. It is a much smaller town and much closer to the hotel.

We had a wonderful experience and look forward to our return.

Amazing Experience

The staff and service was impeccable. They were very polite and really worked hard to provide excellent service. The sommeliers were knowledgable and we really enjoyed discussing the wines of the region with them. Our room was just amazing as was the spa. Can't say enough good things about our visit.

This place just gets under my skin!!

This castle!!The staff!! It is a 3 hour drive from our home in France and we kick ourselves every visit as to why we don't get here more often. We simply L-o-v-e it here. The castle gets new additions every visit which make it just more of what it already is.....fabulous.They added a new bar this fall and it is great. The funny thing is you didn't notice they needed it...now it feels perfect (a fireplace in the bar would be nice!). The rooms are all fabulous and we have stayed on every floor.
The staff is lovely and since it is a small hotel (in rooms not size!) they all know your name and more or less cater to you. You actually feel as if the castle is all yours most of the time. The staff will bend over backwards to accommodate you. Take me away Castello Guarene!!

Do not come with children-EVER

If you hate children that much - don't take a booking that specifies that high chairs are needed.

Absolutely horrible place. The staff are rude... a problem I have found quite often in this area. The only thing going for it is the location in all honesty.

In the middle of winter, there isnt a single other customer to be seen, the children were playing quietly in a corner under adult supervision while we, the parents and friends, were finishing our meal ( meals in italy can be long). The receptionist found this unnacceptable and started saying they couldnt be there, in a corner, in an empty lobby.

I strongly suggest you come to appreciate the view but not to spend any significant amount of time there. Food is good but nothing special and extremely overprices, not to mention that it is completely empty so it doesnt feel cosy.

I look forward to a response and an apology from you for your inability to manage and train your staff.

- lunch party of 6+3b 25-11-17 ( only guests in the restaurant/complex so easy enough to find the booking I think)
