What a terrific property. Our room was literally fit for a King ! A beautiful spa, excellent restaurant and great, attentive service. A fantastic place to stay when exploring Piedmont. Highly recommended

Stunning...in every way!

This historic castle sits atop a hill affording a stunning view of this beautiful wine region on all sides. Our room was beautiful and when the windows were swung open the view was amazing. Many of the pieces of furniture go back to the 1800s
Guarene is 8 kms out of Alba, easy to find and offers great access to Barolo and Barbaresco.
We are not "spa-people"...but if we were, the spa here is 'best in show'!
It may not be the greatest value for cost play but believe me, you will remember this place.

Very cool castle experience with a few areas to improve

We had a great stay at this property and it is definitely an “experience”. It really feels like you’re living in a castle.

The check in staff was helpful and very professional (although not the warmest, but that is on par with almost all the other places we stayed at in Italy). Throughout the stay, the staff was very helpful with arranging dinner reservations and other requests, which was very appreciated. I just wish they would have been more warm/welcoming because it really feels like you’re staying in someone’s castle/home, and it can be a little awkward to feel like you don’t belong.

Common areas are very nice. The room was beautiful with nice antique furniture. There was nowhere to put my large suitcase except the floor - a luggage rack would have been nice. We were surprised that we could not use an iron in the room (something about safety and ruining the furniture), and instead would have to pay 10€ to iron a shirt. We had seen this at a couple other hotels in Italy, though. We had a huge terrace with lounge chairs and an umbrella. Water was provided, but only one bottle. We called to request another bottle on night 2 and only realized that we were charged for it upon checking out. We stayed at five 5-star hotels during this trip, and this was the only hotel that charged for water.

Bathroom was huge and spotless. Water pressure was great in the shower and there was plenty of hot water. My only complaint is that the shower is very dark and there is no lighting in it (only light from above in the middle of the bathroom and through the glass door.

The castle itself is very beautiful and fun to walk around. The gardens are gorgeous and the views of the towns and vineyards are breathtaking.

Breakfast was very good - a buffet with pastries, scrambled eggs, pancakes, cold cuts, cheeses, fruit, bread, etc. it is served in a very beautiful room and the staff was attentive (especially in the main room). We had dinner in the bistro/bar area because their restaurant was closed on Wednesdays, and everything nearby was either closed or fully booked. The pasta dishes were just okay and expensive - would probably make advanced reservations for dinner on Wednesday.

Their spa is incredible and very relaxing. It’s located underground in the old and beautifully restored escape passageway. We tried out all of the facilities (pool, salt cave, tea room, emotional shower, ice room, steam room, dry sauna). Very fun way to relax in a rainy day.

Overall, we had a great time and would hope to see a few improvements so that we can return and be wowed.
