As private as it is luxurious, Petra Hotel & Suites is Patmos Island’s most intimate boutique hotel. The multi tier property, home to just 11 rooms and suites, is designed with earthy stone walls and black pebble floors; from afar it looks like a small village rising out of rocky coves. Petra means rock in Greek, which seems fitting, as the bay is punctuated by the massive rock of Kallikatsou, an otherworldly freestanding cliff that rises from the waves.
Bed and Bath
Suites are filled with Grecian ceramics, sculptures and artwork that delight the artsy occupants (Jean Paul Gaultier, for one, stayed here a few years ago while Patmos was celebrating Orthodox Holy Week in all its splendor). The Honeymoon Suite has a hydromassage bathtub and a spacious living room, and all guestrooms have private balconies overlooking Grikos Bay.
Just a five-minute drive from the famed monastery of St. John, Petra Hotel & Suites is anything but monastic. You’re positively encouraged to indulge: from the lavish breakfast spreads piled high with fresh-baked Greek pastries to cocktails served around the mosaic-tiled pool, to the killer views across the crystalline waters of Grikos Bay.
How to Get There
Patmos is a gem and Petra Hotel and owners wonderful hosts. We stayed in nice two floor suite so my kids had the bottom and we had the top. The private deck had amazing view of Petra rock and ocean. Breakfasts were delicious and the pool area had great views and good to relax. They were super helpful booking us restaurants and directing us to best beaches
What a lovely way to end our Greek vacation. This was our second visit to Petra Hotel It is a lovely little boutique. hotel overlooking Grikos Bay and Petra Rock. The owners Petra and Santos are fantastic , friendly people who make us family. We adored them, they did everything they could to make us feel welcome and cared for. Their staff is friendly and very efficient. The hotel itself is beautiful and comfortable, it is so lovely to sit on the deck and listen for the birds returning to the trees surrounding it to roost as the sun sets...or drink your tea in the morning g watching the sunrise. Petra is a wonderful cook and every morning we were greeted with delightful Greek treats prepared in her kitchen. It was like being in a luxery hotel (which it is) in someone's Greek mother's home. She even presented us with fresh sweet figs from a local farmer as we were leaving. We love it here and plan to return. TruGreece set this up for us both times we visited and they are fabulous. Thank you so much TruGreece and especially Petra and Santos.
This hotel, while beautiful and spotless, distinguishes itself by combining that with staff that are genuinely concerned for your comfort during your stay. Petra is a wonderful host and if you prefer a small resort experience - don’t miss the opportunity to stay here.
When I booked my family’s trip to Greece for my mother’s 80th birthday we knew we wanted to experience a Greek Island in a special way. True Trips booked us into Hotel Petra and there really are no words to describe the perfect, peaceful trip we had. We were 8. Each couple had a beautifully appointed sea view suite. And while that was important it became almost insignificant because of the utter beauty and hospitality of Petra and her husband Kristos. Each morning we were served homemade breakfast that was so abundant and delicious we thought we would not eat again for the whole day. ( which never happened). Petra was so gracious at every moment. One thing we wanted was for my mother and husband to learn how to cook some Greek dishes. Peters spent an entire day with them in her kitchen preparing a beautiful celebration meal. And yes, they now know how to make home made Phyllo!
The views from every part of the property are spectacular. Sitting my the pool, having your meal on the veranda or sitting on your balcony. If you book there I can assure you that your life will change in the most special way.
In the end a guess one of the greatest things I can say is that I showed up with 8 family members and I feel like my family doubled in size. 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
My wife and I spent two excellent nights st the Petra Hotel, a beautiful and unique family owned hotel 3 km south of Skala in Grikos. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, even going so far as to open for the season a day early when our plans changed at the last minute. The restaurant and hotel staff were both unfailingly kind and helpful. Every detail was thought out. Our room was on the pool level with a view of the bay. Very quiet at night. Excellent homemade breakfast in the morning included. Highly recommended.
