As private as it is luxurious, Petra Hotel & Suites is Patmos Island’s most intimate boutique hotel. The multi tier property, home to just 11 rooms and suites, is designed with earthy stone walls and black pebble floors; from afar it looks like a small village rising out of rocky coves. Petra means rock in Greek, which seems fitting, as the bay is punctuated by the massive rock of Kallikatsou, an otherworldly freestanding cliff that rises from the waves.
Bed and Bath
Suites are filled with Grecian ceramics, sculptures and artwork that delight the artsy occupants (Jean Paul Gaultier, for one, stayed here a few years ago while Patmos was celebrating Orthodox Holy Week in all its splendor). The Honeymoon Suite has a hydromassage bathtub and a spacious living room, and all guestrooms have private balconies overlooking Grikos Bay.
Just a five-minute drive from the famed monastery of St. John, Petra Hotel & Suites is anything but monastic. You’re positively encouraged to indulge: from the lavish breakfast spreads piled high with fresh-baked Greek pastries to cocktails served around the mosaic-tiled pool, to the killer views across the crystalline waters of Grikos Bay.
How to Get There
My wife and I stayed in Petra Hotel in July for 5 days. This is a serene boutique hotel with few carefully done rooms overlooking Grikos bay. Rooms are spacious with comfortable mattresses and soft linen and towels and a spacious bathroom. Breakfast is home made and offers a variety of eggs, croissants, breads, jams and honey. It is served on the main balcony with a great view of the bay. Staff is very helpful and always there for anything you might need. They are well informed about different experiences you can do on the island. They helped us reserve a private boat tour on the nearby islands and swim in some amazing bays as well as find reservations in any restaurant we wanted to during our stay there.
Overall we had an amazing relaxing stay in Patmos and this was largely because of Petros Hotel!
This was our 3rd time back at this stunning, elegant little hotel. We opted for a sea view suite ( room 17) and the view from our own little private balcony was out of this world. Petra and Costas were there to greet us as usual and Christos was on hand to help us with everything else throughout our stay. Like the rest of the staff, he was such an asset - all are so willing and friendly. The guys cleaning the rooms do such a great job and work so hard.
Breakfast was delicious and varied each day. I am allergic to orange juice and Petra kindly made sure I had grapefruit as a substitute.
This time we flew into Leros from Athens - meaning a shorter ferry ride over.
This is such a special place for us. Thank you for keeping it that way.
We were excited to return to Petra. We hadn't been to this part of Greece again in 6 years, and were anxious. My wife and I were pleased to be greeted by the same gracious husband and wife team from our last stay.
The service here is top-notch and the accommodations are first-rate.
The breakfasts are stunning, with an unlimited table service of elegant home-made goodies of local providence.
The location, and views are superb. We highly recommend this (adults-only) very special property.
