How to Get There
This was our first all inclusive resort. I was a little worried after reading some reviews, but we honestly had a great time and were not disappointed. Yes, there are a few things that Viva Wyndham can upgrade, but overall we were very happy with our stay.
We paid a great budget price for our week long vacation, and given that price, I think it was a great value for what we got. The drinks were very strong. The buffet was good, with dinner being better than lunch or breakfast. My only complaint about the buffet is that it closes at 10 PM. With the bars being opened til 2 AM, I don't think it would hurt to extend the buffet hours a tad, even if it's just until 11 o'clock. All the restaurants were very good! You can only book three reservations at first, but check back each day after 4 o'clock and you can try to snag another! We ate at the restaurants five times during our stay! The entertainment staff was absolutely amazing. Lauren, Brianna, Samuel, Eddie, and Lorenzo to name a few. Lauren and Samuel were super helpful during archery! We also enjoyed the kayaks, snorkeling equipment and tennis courts. My boyfriend used the gym as well and he thought it was very good. There is also a sauna in the gym which I enjoyed.
As for the beach, it was huge and there were plenty of chairs. The hot tub was big and always hot. However, I think management should consider heating the pool. The water was too cold so we didn't use the pool during our stay.
Overall, I would come back here if I got the same price again. The rooms definitely need updating, but we barely spent any time in them because there were so many activities available to us. If you are thinking of staying here but hesitant because of some recent negative reviews, give it a try!
This was our fourth visit to this resort and although we will be returning again, we noticed some changes.
NEW MANAGEMENT please take note:
The common area was not as clean as it had been on our past visits. Windows, glass table tops, shop windows.... all needed to be washed. (used to be washed daily) Also noticed that the beach was no longer being raked every morning as in the past. This resulted in there being a lot of weeds, napkins, plastic glasses..... the entire week. In the past, the beach chairs would be perfectly aligned every morning allowing a tractor to pass between the rows of chairs raking up anything that may have been left on the beach over night. Then the tractor would run the entire length of the beach gathering any weeds that may have washed ashore over night. I want to make one thing clear. It is not the staff, they are, as usual, working extremely hard .
One major issue for all passengers from Canada (Montreal & Toronto) was a change in Hotel policy that no longer opened the breakfast buffet at 6:30am (30 minutes earlier than usual) allowing us time to grab a quick bite before having to leave the hotel at 7:15am They opened at their usual time of 7:00am. This gave us less than 15 minutes to get something to eat and rush back the buses waiting to bring us to the airport.
All this said, we are still planning on returning, to hopefully find things have gone back to the way they were on our previous 3 visits. Would like to thank customer service and other staff for always taking care of us during our stay. They are part of the reason we keep coming back. See you next year.
Flew direct from Montreal (3 hrs!) - 3 couples, 4 kids (ages 5, 4, 4 and 18m).
Nothing but great things to say about this resort.
If I am being honest, after reading some of the reviews before leaving, I was setting myself up for disappointment.
That being said, my expectations were surpassed.
To the people who said the rooms/resort is outdated - I have no idea where they were staying!
While this is not a modern Hilton, it has great amenities, comfortable pool side chairs, clean rooms, flat screen tv's in the bar area, and the washrooms in the public areas were clean and updated.
Rooms: we had ocean view, basically on the beach (lower level). The staff was able to accommodate our group, and set us up 3 in a row. This was AMAZING for us, as we all had children with us, and it was great to have the beach at our door. Not to mention, the beach bar was close by and we all took turns walking there to grab drinks/food!
Rooms were cleaned daily, towels always replenished. 2 bottles of water per day. They did not have any odor (usually on vacation I notice the rooms smell damp/mouldy).
The AC was a tad loud .. but we managed. Room always cool!
Pool: as others have said, it was definitely cold. Our kids still went in, and us adults went in to cool off as well. The hot tub is large, and our kids enjoyed hanging out there every day. The pool side area was comfortable and the staff did many activities.
Food: I loved the buffet, lol. Breakfast was a bit meh for me - the usual things - scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast etc, but it did not vary much from day to day. Lunch and dinner had great variety - all foods had great flavor, and tons to choose from. Buffet always was stocked up, and the spaces cleaned. Never had to wait for a table, despite being a group of 10. We hit up all 3 a la carte restaurants (with the kids!). My fav was the Italian - service was excellent and the food and ambiance was great.
Drinks: they are strong! Eventually I would just ask for half the alcohol (call me a lightweight). Service was fast and friendly. The beach bar had a lot of bees - but they didn't bother me. Never had to wait for a drink.
Beach: The beach was always clean, lots of chairs available, and no vendors bothering you all day long.
We tried stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and catamaran. All were great.
Recommend the Banana Bar down the beach - nice ambiance and beautiful views.
Coming from a seasoned 'all inclusive traveler' - I can tell you that this resort has everything you need. Good food, nice/clean rooms, beautiful beach, polite staff and the sun! What else do you need?
We left from Montreal (2 adults, 1 child) and had a blast at the Viva Wyndham. The Bahamas are one of the few Zika free islands in the Caribbean, and the Wyndham seemed to be one of the few all-inclusive resorts at a cheap price (though still probably more expensive than comparable places in Cuba or Mexico), so we booked but with tempered expectations.
It's definitely not a five star resort, but it surpassed our expectations. Although reasonably well travelled, this is also our first time at an all-inclusive resort for a vacation.
The room was a basic hotel room. The floors are all tile, probably for ease of cleaning. It's almost impossible not to carry sand into the room after a day at the beach. Our room was an ocean view room (1103) at the end of the building pretty much directly on the beach. The view from the balcony is one of the best, if not the best, hotel room views I've ever had: a beach, some palm trees, and then the ocean. We got up every single morning to sit on the balcony and watch the sun rise over the ocean while listening to the waves hit the beach. Early in the morning and in the evening the beach was empty and it was absolutely peaceful.
The food was fine. The buffet food was decent for the most part. The breakfasts were good and pretty standard from one day to the next. I eat the same breakfast every day back home, so I was fine. There was still enough selection to have a completely different breakfast every day. There was a bit more variety in the lunches, and the dinners were pretty varied with daily themes. The a la cart restaurants were also decent but not exceptional, but a nice change of pace from the buffet. The tuna at the Viva Café was excellent (just ever so slightly seared and almost raw) and the wood-oven pizzas were also surprisingly good.
The hot tub was always pleasant, but the main tub was just a tad too chilly (but till warmer than some high school swimming pools in Quebec). The beach was fantastic. There was very little seawood, no "ocean" / brine smell, and the sand was soft, fine, and never got hot on the feet. The water was shallow, clear, and calm and warmer than the pool.
There were a variety of other activities available. We took advantage of the archery and paddle board rentals almost daily. The paint ball was fun but required enough people to be signed up. I was able to get in some nice early morning runs along the beach or the local roads.
The Kids Club seemed fairly small and basic, but the staff running it seemed friendly and got along well with the kids.
We had fairly modest expectations of the resort, but we ended up having a blast. We'd happily recommend it others. We'd probably consider going again, but the view from our room was so awesome we might be disappointed if we got a different room.
As has been stated by others, don’t spend three star money and expect five stars. This resort is very nice with one the best beaches you can ask for. The food is good, we never went hungry. We did have a problem with getting towels one day and the couple that went with us had a towel issue for three days. For some reason different people clean the room and bring towels.
I would like to put a shout out to Tellise, Jameco and Keith. Three great bartenders who were fun to spend time with. The drinks were excellent.
We heard a lot about the Wednesday fish fry at Taino beach. It was nowhere near what we expected. Seemed to us like it was just buzz to get the tourists to go eat at the three restaurants.
All in all, we would return to this resort. We had a great time and like I said the beach is beautiful.
