The volcanic isle of Ischia, just off the Napoli coast, will have you literally bubbling with excitement. Alongside its famous naturally heated thermal pools, reputed to have oodles of curative powers, it also boasts intriguing hot sand beaches and sparklingly clear waters. Located in the west of the island overlooking Citara Bay, Semiramis Hotel de Charme is a quiet gem proudly run by the genial Mazza family. It’s a mere pebble’s throw down to Citara’s sandy beach, or you can spend your time plunging your way through the nearby Poseidon Gardens’ staggering 21 thermal pools, said to cure all manner of ailments.
Back at the hotel, wander the extensive gardens, packed with palm trees, bougainvillaea and rare Mediterranean plants. Rooms also ooze Mediterranean character, with hand-painted Vietri tiles adorning the floors and reflecting all the colour outside.
The hotel also boasts a large outdoor thermal pool of its own, complete with sunbeds and shady umbrellas, where you can order a drink from the poolside bar. Semimaris Hotel de Charme was awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and after a few days here you’ll soon see why.
How to Get There
This hotel is in a great location - the beach is across the street and Poseidon is a 5 minute walk. There are also very good restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The waking path for a different hotel, that sits high on the hill above, goes next to the Semiramis property. It was easy to read the faces of the tired guests as they trekked up and down that hill, that they wished they had booked their stay at the Semiramis. There is also an expert gardener on staff. The variety of plants and trees and their placement is very artistic. The pools are wonderful, the breakfast is wonderful, and the staff is very friendly.
My husband and I stayed at this little family run hotel for a week at the end of June.
It is situated in a quiet location only 50 metres from the public beach and within easy walking distance of some lovely restaurants which overlook the sea and beach and with some outstanding sunsets - you can even book a table actually on the beach which is very romantic!
We stayed in a sea view room which was outstanding, clean, spacious and comfortable with a lovely balcony. The breakfast is subsantial with ample choice to suit every taste and can be eaten on a delightful balcony overlooking the sea with gorgeous views.
There are four pools, three of which are only available to over 16 year olds and set in the most wonderful 'hanging' gardens, which also has a spar. The 3 pools are what you would class as affinity pools and overlook the sea - they are idyllic and each one boasts an area for massage with the jets/jacuzzi which operate every 10 minutes for 5 minutes.
The bar area offers salads, fruit and snacks from 12 until 3, but there is no restaurant for serving an evening meal, but this is absolutely no problem because of the number of excellent restaurants very nearby.
The staff are outstanding and so helpful, they cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. They even arranged 2 trips for us to Pompeii and Vesuvious and a round the island boat trip with local companies - I can thoroughly recommend both trips.
We had never been to Ischia but we certainly will be back to this lovely island and this amazing hotel - cannot recommend it enough!
We spent there only one night and it was a pity !!!!! The room was big, comfortable and with a great sea view on the Cetara beach; breakfast was rich and tasty, served on the terrace. The pools are amazing!!!!
