Private 9-acre resort with spacious, family-friendly rooms and a spa on the sleepy West Coast of Mauritius

The Lowdown

Fronting a private white sand beach on the west coast of Mauritius, the grand, family-friendly Hotel Sofitel Mauritius L’Imperial Resort & Spa is a study in understated opulence. Fully revamped in 2013, and set in 9 acres of tropical gardens, the hotel’s spacious verandas, shuttered windows, and thatched parasol roofs are a modern take on traditional island architecture. The 191 rooms and suites are decorated in calming pale greens and yellows, with natural wood furniture and Mauritian artwork. For added space, book an Imperial Suite, featuring four-poster beds, ocean views and butler service. Dining at the resort is fun and varied; sample the high-speed chopping of the Japanese show cooks at Teppanyaki, or drink in a Mauritian sunset at Jacaranda, a chic seafood restaurant with tables directly on the beach. The rate includes free access to water sports like kayaking, water skiing and windsurfing. Or to experience the island’s spectacular marine life, head to the on-site scuba center; the resort is close to some famous diving sites including Channel Saint Jacques.

In the Area

Mark Twain once wrote that God created Paradise in the image of Mauritius. He may have been right; its broad beaches, rugged plains and soaring mountains are breathtakingly beautiful. Explore the island’s outer reaches on a motorboat tour of nearby Ile aux Aigrettes and Ile aux Serfs, where you can spot the indigenous Pink Pigeon and Ornate Day Gecko. Or abseil down glittering waterfalls in the stunning Casela Nature and Leisure Park. There’s nightlife, too: the nearby village of Flic En Flac can be sleepy during the week, but at the weekend its hip bars, music venues, and nightclubs spring into life.

Our stay in Sofitel Imperial was an amazing experience. The entire staff is very welcoming and helpful. We had our stay planned for 6 days and nights and there was not even one day when we were disappointed. The food is amazing with a beautiful view to accompany with it. Enjoy the beach, Spa, wonderful water sports and breathtaking views along with cuisine of your choice. Special thanks to Kunal/Kumar who had made our trip even more memorable .

PS: They also provided us with complimentary fathers day cake when we requested for one.

By far the best hotel I have ever stayed in!

This is by far the best experience I have had with any hotel. The staff is the most caring and amazing and are always ready to help. The services are more than excellent. Not a tiny smidget if dirt anywhere. The beach is absolutely beautiful. Every penny that you pay to this hotel is worthy of it. The buffet is excellent and the theme keeps varying but there is always a section for north indian food. The staff will help you out at every opportunity. The sauna and water sports are absolutely free and amazing. The rooms are the most comfortable and classy. The room service is also great! If you want to enjoy Mauritius to its best of abilitites I request you to go to this hotel. It is sooo great that I had no problem taking my time out to write this review.

The whole family join us to say a big Thank You for the remarkable hospitality extended to us over the week end.

We were much delighted to notice that all the services and stay was hosted on complimentary basis by Sofitel and we are very grateful for this very kind gesture.

We came over for a special occasion and your kindness and caring service made it even more memorable … our little prince 1/2 birthday was just a lifetime experience among the Sofitel Family.

We bow down to the F&B team, the reception, housekeeping and everyone who was part of the service team, as they have been remarkable … we can’t thank them enough for all the attention given.
