How to Get There
After extensive research we chose Hideaway Maldives. We are so happy we did!
This place is paradise defined, so much space and privacy to relax. The resort is less than 1 flight hour from Male, and then a 20 minute boat ride.
The minute you arrive at Male airport your holiday begins as everything is taken care of including domestic flight check-in. Hideaway has it's own check-in desk!
After passing through security and collecting your bags, you are led to the VIP lounge where you just sit back and relax until the domestic flight to Himandhoo is ready for boarding. Many thanks to our Hideway rep who met us at the airport - you made us feel very special.
The speedboat will be ready when you land at Himandhoo. Again you will be feel like celebrities for the unmissable high speed transfer to the island, the Hideaway staff are so helpful.
We find it hard that anyone can find fault in this resort, unless they have unreasonable expectations and assume such an exclusive resort would accommodate budget travel criteria. Yes there are cheaper resorts in the Maldives, but Hideaway is a special place and that's why the well informed choose to come here.
The food is amazing, at all four restaurants. The service is equal to the culinary delights, everyone is so happy and keen to help with absolutely anything.
The snorkelling is out of this world and is accessible directly from the beach. The reef drop-off is literally 10 metres from one of the main restaurants, you can put your mask/snorkel/fins on on the restaurant deck and within seconds be amongst sting rays, eagle rays, black tipped sharks and shoals of the most amazing fish you will ever see!
We have stayed in many 5 star resorts including St Regis Bora Bora, Le Touessrok Mauritius, (please google them!) Hideaway trumps them all.
Many thanks to Gulim, our butler, for everything, you are fantastic!
We hope to stay with you again next year and we are already planning our flights from the UK!

I will like to inform you about my family and I’s bad experience in Hideaway resort, and my important warning due to the fact that I have visited more than 10 resorts in Maldives.
1- The food issue:
You will be charged in the end for food almost as mush as you spend for the room itself. the meal costs more than any expensive restaurant in Dubai. It costs around $120 per person per meal, and they will offer you $110 for dinner only per person but if you will not use it it will gone anyway so it will be the same concept in the end. The can of cola as example will cost you almost $11, and in different resorts it was much cheaper or free. Also, the quality of the food and especially the drinks are awful and not equal the price.
2- The WiFi is extremely weak and cuts off fast.
3- Hygiene and cleaning issues:
The villas are so old and we found way too many lizards, rats, snakes, and ants everywhere. The tables especially were filled with ants so we were digusted to eat on them since the ants will come in the food. Keep in mind that I reserved two villas, and both of them had the same issue.
4- Facilities issue:
Everything will cost you way too much (fishing, sunset boat, etc.) which is for free in all the resorts I have visited before, and I even had a free 30 minutes massage in the other resorts.
5- The transportation:
a. The resort is extremely far from the airport. You need to use a domestic airplane for one hour and it will not be direct it will stop in another airport then you will use a speed boat for 25 minutes. It was a very tiring journey. On top of that, the domestic airplane was expensive as well. The other option instead of the domestic airplane was the sea plane, which will take one and a half hour and cost more.
b. You can not walk to all the restaurants since they are usually far from the rooms, therefore you will need a buggy (small electric car). They don’t have enough buggies so you will wait a lot. The buggies take too long to arrive to your room and it took almost 20 minutes once for my daughter.
5- the snorkeling issue:
The area for the snorkeling is almost 100 meters from the shore, which is a very little amount and not enough. In other resorts, they sometimes took us on a boat to a deeper area for snorkeling to have a better experience.
6- The most important issue of all is that the resort restaurants close at 10 pm except the bar will close at 11 pm. This means that we are forced to leave some of our activities to be able to eat. In other resorts, they are open until around 2am. On too of that, there are no night activities so you have to stay inside your room after that.
7- Fake advertising:
In the advertisements for the villas, they did not show the full size and all of the rooms for the villas. I reserved two villas because I thought it wouldn’t be enough for my family, but it turns out that one of the villas I reserved is big enough for my whole family, although it said it was for two adults only. I tried canceling the other villa when I arrived, but they did not allow me to cancel it.
Compared to other resorts it was the worst experience I ever had.
With all my respect to you all,
I already wrote this review on another website but I feel that I should also write it here to make sure people know how great our visit was! We went o Hideaway on our honeymoon and loved everything about our stay at the resort. The staff were truly exceptional and even the smallest details were looked after making our stay extra special. We loved having bikes to roam around the island, our fishing trip was super fun and the local island day trip was also special and educational. A special mention to the food and beverage team who were all so welcoming and friendly to us - they really made us feel at home. From the lovely welcoming smile at breakfast every morning to the waiters who always made sure our glasses were full. There were a few staff members who we felt made our stay even more special; Ajith the cocktail master at Meeru bar gave us some amazing memories and nothing was too troublesome for him - he is a truly exceptional star and even stayed open to the early hours just to keep us entertained. Budi was super, he showed us his magic tricks and has a memory like an elephant (remembering every cocktail we ordered and how we like them!). Our butler Mugey helped us out countless times and works so hard, he helped correct an issue we had with a fishing trip and we ended up with our best memories because of the work he put in. Finally Ibrahim at Samsara made us feel very special, thinking of extra things to make our visits more comfortable. Samsara restaurant has fantastic food - we especially loved the Indian menu. We were very happy with our visit and would love to come back in the future. Also - we can highly recommend the all inclusive platinum plus package - unlike other resorts you have so many options you don't feel restricted at all.
