How to Get There
A stunning well maintained property , situated in glorious countryside . We were greeted by a warm and friendly welcome from staff . Our standard room was far superior to what we expected with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Excellent food on the night followed by a good breakfast in superb setting. Spa and pool well recommend. 10/10 would definitely book again 😊
Had two fantastic nights in this beautiful hotel, staff so helpful and friendly, the spa and pool were perfect to relax in , the restaurant served delicious food and substantial breakfasts .
Idyllic surroundings and a perfect retreat for any occasion
I booked this hotel on a 'romantic package' for myself and my girlfriend, which included a glass of champagne and some chocolates, as well as breakfast in bed. The hotel is in absolutely fantastic grounds, and when you come over the hill along the drive it looks amazing. The welcome was very friendly, the receptionist was lovely and even showed us to our room. 20 minutes later, she called to make sure everything was fine - it definitely was!
We had spa treatments (back, neck, shoulder - 25 mins) booked so we made our way down to the spa. The spa is lovely, and the treatments were fantastic. The steam room is not so steamy but smells very nice. The swimming pool is also good.
After going back to our room, we decided to go for a walk - the hotel provides descriptions of a few walks. The walk really shows how beautiful the grounds are and it was an easy enough walk to follow.
We made our way down to the bar/lounge, where we ordered some drinks. We were brought over some nibbles and an Italian waiter brought over our menu, so we could order. We also had our champagne that was included. We ordered our food and enjoyed relaxing in the bar/lounge until about 10 minutes before our starter was cooked, when the waiter took us through to the restaurant. A lovely lady offered us bread which was lovely as well. Our starters (one ham terrine, one duck pate) were delicious, as were our mains (chicken breast, and bream) and our desserts (chocolate dome, and cheesecake).
Following a good nights sleep, our breakfast was delivered to our room. Again, it was delicious.
To put things on the room, with a debit card, we had to put a £50 deposit down. We were refunded any remaining balance the following morning. Overall, the hotel was absolutely wonderful - one of the best we've ever stayed at! It was slightly pricey but it was absolutely worth it. To say our main complaint was that the chocolate included in our rate wasn't in our room when we arrived says what a wonderful stay we had.
We stayed here for my 22nd Birthday at the start of the month! We stayed in the Mulberry suite which was beautiful. As soon as we arrived we couldn’t have been any more looked after. We were shown to our room by the General Manager and he took us around all the hotel facilities and spa :)
We sat and had a few drinks in the bar and really enjoyed the bar tenders choices of gins and garnishes - even though we can’t remember his name!
After a luxurious sleep, breakfast was out of this world. With such a wide selection of choice (which we sometimes find difficult as we are both vegetarian) we were extremely well looked after by the restaurant staff.
After a massage in the spa we were on our way home, the ladies in the spa couldn’t have been more welcoming and created a really comfortable environment.
Would highly recommend this hotel as it’s beautiful surroundings and accommodating staff are second to none :)
The stunning approach through the rolling landscape is a reliable indicator of the quality of what follows. Our spacious room was very well appointed with high quality furnishings. The bathroom was a good size and although the rain shower is over the bath it provided copious hot water; luxury toiletries pampered us. A glass of champagne prepared us for a refined dinner. Caramelised apple and a mustard dressing enhanced a meaty ham hock terrine. Spices on a fish cake didn’t overpower the salmon and cod of which it was composed. Smoked bacon brought an enjoyable flavour and texture to chicken breast. The Barbury duck breast was cooked just pink but not too pink for our taste; it was plentiful and beautifully complemented by braised red cabbage and a red wine jus. We’re often satisfied by two courses at dinner but every dish had been so good that we couldn’t resist dessert. Nutmeg ice cream provided a spicy note to a custard tart. Warm chocolate sauce poured over a chocolate dome hiding a honeycomb iced parfait provided a theatrical finale. A good selection of wine by the glass suited our slightly different palates. A sound night’s sleep prepared us for a similarly splendid breakfast. A copious buffet selection was augmented by haddock and a perfectly poached egg for one of us with smoked salmon and scrambled egg for the other. Our stay was an all too brief stopover en route from Scotland to our London home. We will stay here again when the opportunity arises – and if we lived locally we would be here frequently for dinner.
