How to Get There
It was a surprise gift from my husband so I can’t really complain. The island itself is small but really cute, the rooms are exceptionally clean, the indoor pool is to die for, the food is good (even if my husband got food poisoned on the first night and spent the following two days in bed with high fever - out of a 5 days stay... really a pity). What I find unacceptable for the amount of money this place actually costs is it’s proximity to the national prison (literally the island nextdoor) which gets lit like a football stadium every night, preventing you to see the stars even if you are in the middle of the ocean! There is a second COMO hotel on another atoll much further away, I’d pick that! or you could simply check in at the four seasons. Same price, 100 times better service and attention to the client.
It is hard to describe Cocoa Island. It is a piece of heaven on earth. The serenity, the turquoise blue water, the sound of the waves, the beautiful water villas, the amazing inhouse reef, the food, the staff, the dive center activities.... where to begin!
we return year after year and it still amazes us with its beauty and captivates our minds long after we leave, always with a longing to return.
Perfect holiday for the whole family. Will be counting the days to return.
From the minute we arrived on COMO Cocoa Island we felt at home. There were broad smiles, a very warm welcome, cold coconut and refreshing towel.
We stayed in a one bedroom villa which had a view of the sunrise and the famous sand spit. It was spacious and traditional in style. The hotel is being renovated mid this year so I'm sure it will be even more gorgeous after that. There are fancier rooms at other hotels but we had stayed at COMO Maalifushi before this and enjoyed a luxurious more modern room there but this room was charming. It didn't have a pool but the water around the villa was over soft sand (not coral) so you could swim in the ocean no matter what the tide.
There is only one restaurant at Cocoa Island. That is an advantage when the chef is this good and the menu has so much variety. The food here was a real highlight. The pasta was as good as in Italy! And of course there are always healthy options at COMO which makes a longer holiday not hurt your waistline.
We loved the hydrotherapy pool and went most days and sometimes twice a day! The pressure jets are a great massage. The yoga on the beach at sunrise was worth getting up for but the outdoor yoga pavilion was gorgeous too.
Our highlight of the trip was our wedding ceremony to renew our vows on our 10th wedding anniversary. We had excellent support from the team at Cocoa before we arrived and they had everything planned for us from a wedding cake to a flower crown and bouquet for me. On the day a team constructed a beautiful arch on the sand spit and set up an aisle of rose petals and lanterns. It was incredible! The photographer COMO organised (Moomin's Photography) was a lovely guy and very talented. We are very impressed with his work.
The GM Benjamin is a lovely man and we enjoyed his company during the trip. The managers welcome cocktail party was a good chance to meet other guests who came from all over the world.
We spent six nights on this delightful little island and fell in love with it. As the island only has 33 villas, it never feels busy and you can often feel like you have the place to yourself. The wonderful staff are what makes this a truly special place as they simply cant do enough for you. I was unlucky enough to be unwell for a few days but the kindness of the staff and their helpful offers of Como Shambala ginger tea certainly helped me have a speedier recovery than normal.
The marine life here is simply spectacular. We counted ourselves as very lucky to watch a superpod of dolphins swim past our water villa one morning. Absolutely amazing! The snorkelling on the house reefs was fantastic and went beyond our expectations - we saw sting rays, eagle ray, turtles and every variety of fish life imaginable. My husband thoroughly enjoyed diving here especially as there are so many spectacular dive sites within such close proximity.
We loved the dhoni shaped villas, which are light, bright, airy and very spacious.
We left this delightful little island already planning our return, which only shows how much we loved it.
A big thanks to Benjamin Kreuz and all his staff for making our stay so special.
as soon as we got our luggage, the Como Cocoa Island representative greeted you and carted your luggage across the street down to your boat and 45 minutes later, we arrived to a beautiful white sandy beach. fresh coconut was served with a refreshing cold towel. there are only water bungalows with the sunset and sunrise side. the sunrise bungalows are more separated whereas the sunset bungalow are next to each others. we were on the sunrise side which on top of white sands, not much corals so not many fishes under the bungalow whereas the sunset side are next to the corals so you can go down on the ramp and snorkeling and there are variety of fish including sharks and rays, and octopus. the water is pristine, the beach was the cleanest beach we have been. the workers were cleaning the beach all day long. Our room is quite large with an outdoor shower, bath tub, and two sinks. the bed was very comfortable. There are comfortable couches, Nespresso machine, and variety complimentary teas. Fresh fruits changed daily. there are lounge chairs for you to recline enjoying the ocean. The towels were soft. Food was excellent especially, the best Naan. The buffet selection was small but many ala carte to order from. the food was fresh and good quality. I would recommend to do half board because there is only one restaurant and it can be expensive if you don't do half board. They are very accommodating and willing to make adjustment to your restriction or liking. Although the resort was full, we felt very relaxed, and calm. never felt like we needed to get out of the restaurant because someone else was waiting or needed to wait for anything. We were assigned a butler and Nazeem made our stay 100+% happy. He booked our itinerary, served our meals, and made sure our stay was perfect, yet not in the way. We took two boat trips with marine biologist, Emily, who was extremely knowledgeable. We saw hundreds of dolphins and the second trip, at least 30 sharks and rays. We have been to Soneva Jani, Four Season, Constant Havale, and Como Cocoa Island has the best service. Only one remark is that there is no bucky so if you have problem walking, it may be difficult to walk to places. Also the bedroom is elevated so there are few steps which you have to be mindful not to miss or bump into. Other than that, if you want to feel like you own a private island for your stay, go to Como Cocoa Island. It is not inexpensive but you pay, they don't nickel and dime you so you can enjoy the fullest.
