Amazing service
Jim O

My wife and I decided to wrap up a 32 day SE Asia Anniversary vacation with our last week in Phuket at Twinpalms for a final wind down before heading back to the hustle and bustle.

The property isn't as big as it may feel on Google maps, but the photos aren't lying, the place is gorgeous. The main (and only) pool is quiet and comfortable.  Theers also a pool bar to help keep you hydrated throughout the day.

If you are inclined and pay to upgrade to the duplex with a private pool you'll be very happy.  We felt like royalty during our stay.

The service here is exceptional, the entire staff, regardless of your needs are always focused on your comfort and happiness. They recognize that your time here is special no matter the occasion and any worries you have they are quick to help.

Unlike other resorts, Twinpalms is set back from the main public beach, about a 3-5 walk out the front door.  There are a number of street vendors for food and snacks the water is good.

They also offer up another two beach options, both accessible from the hotel shuttle, the first and preferred is The Catch, this beach is also public but the hotel has a roped off area that includes beach loungers, an adult only pool, a bar and a restaurant.  The service here is really good, a great place for a full on Thai beach experience, Drinks+Sun+RnR.

The other beach option is HQ, I prefer the actual beach here however the ocean is slightly rougher and seating, especially near the beach is very limited.  Although this place feels like a high end expensive club, the service and food isn't as good as The Catch. Maybe it's geared more towards a night crowd.

Finally, the food, everything is outstanding, with each passing meal I find myself saying I can't believe this is better then the last one.  The food is hotel pricey but it is really good at both the hotel restaurant and the adjacent Palm restaurant near the beach.

Book the breakfast with your room is well worth it. Also a bonus, the staff and kitchen understands gluten free, they not only have a ton of GF options they take the time to discuss choices and alternatives with you.  Again a testament to the exception service.

If you're heading to Phuket with your sweetheart definitely book here. If you enjoy red wine make sure you stop at the wine store (10 min away) before you arrive.

My only criticism is wine choice is very low and price is insanely high. We picked up 5 good bottles at the wine store for the cost of one at the restaurant.

Be careful if you're gluten intolerant or coeliac

We stayed here for one week. Generally it was a pleasant stay. Our room was large but the bed was quite hard and the rainfall shower wasn't very powerful. However, the breakfast was good; the food at the Pool Bar was tasty and reasonably priced; and alcohol was not overly expensive.

I think the staff in this hotel lack the "polish" I have seen in other five star hotels in Thailand. Many staff members have a basic command of English. I wouldn't say anyone 'went out of their way' for us whilst we are at the hotel. A number of staff would often hang around by the Pool Bar or restaurant talking to each other and looking bored. That said, staff were (on the whole) quite friendly, but we have experienced better service at other five star Thai hotels.

Unfortunately I was given non-gluten free bread with one meal. I double-checked with the waiter if the bread he had given me was gluten free; he said that it was, twice, so I ate it and started to feel a bit unwell. After talking to the chef, the waiter came back and said that they had mistakenly given me non-gluten free bread. The duty manager was apologetic and gave us a free drink. Considering our meal cost £80, this was a pretty rum concession and something more substantial would have been appreciated. I am not coeliac but gluten intolerant; this could have been really serious for someone with coeliac and it was evident to me that the staff lacked training in this regard and that the restaurant / kitchen did not operate sufficiently robust controls with regard to allergens.

The pool area is nice, albeit the sun loungers are basic. The towels provided by the hotel are okay. There is no pool boy at this hotel who goes around to help with the umbrellas, replenishing towels or taking drinks orders. The absence of this service was strange. Also, having to take a shuttle to a beach club was not something we wanted to do; the hotel website is quite misleading in this respect. We thought that the restaurants and beach clubs were all within the hotel resort, but this is not the case. We were really disappointed by this.

The location of the hotel is okay but there aren't too many restaurants or bars nearby. The hotel has only one restaurant which was quite expensive.

Unfortunately, we wouldn't return to this hotel, even though the stay was relatively good value for money. It just didn't live up to what we have experienced previously at five star hotels in Thailand.

A wonderful retreat

The Twinpalms is a beautiful hotel on the west side of the island which is about 30 minutes from the airport by taxi. We loved the gorgeous, well manicured grounds and the lush tropical foliage which added to the overall feel. Layout of the hotel with all of the buildings at an angle is also very beautiful.

Rooms were very nicely appointed and bathrooms were spacious with an open rain shower facing a private courtyard that we loved. Air conditioning was broken in our room the first night but fixed by night two...it was cool and comfortable after that.

Restaurant and pool bar were both delicious. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the pool lunch menu which has Thai and western options. The menus were gorgeous editorial photos of all the dishes and each looked exactly as pictured! Definitely worth staying by the pool and eating.

Spa was relaxing although our services were ok, not outstanding.

Only real negative for us was the lack of pool seating. It’s been mentioned and it’s still an issue. Chairs are only placed sporadically to help keep the intimate feel. In off season, by 1030-11 there were no more chairs which meant we had to go to the offsite beach club. Beach club wasn’t really our scene since they have many local vendors selling on the public beach.

We definitely would come back to the Twinpalms in the future and highly recommend it!

Tip: from the airport, find the metered taxi stand and insist they turn on the meter once you get in. Fare was less than 500 baht to the hotel vs. 700+ for all other modes. Metered taxis are not available on the way to the airport as there is a fixed fare 700 baht taxi.
