An intimate resort geared toward honeymooners and other travelers in the mood for romance (but also catering to families), Sala Samui has just 69 rooms, of which 53 are freestanding villas with private pools. The staff emphasizes privacy and personalized service, and romantic dinners for two or barbecues can be arranged on the beach or in guests’ villas. Thai and international chefs prepare meals in a variety of laid-back restaurants overlooking the 80-meter white-sand beach, ranging from the Thai favorites at the Beach Restaurant to Mediterranean delights at Pangaea, while a beachfront wine cellar houses an array of bottles from around the world. The spa, redolent with the scent of therapeutic flowers and spices, has four air-conditioned couples treatment rooms and four open-air salas (pavilions) that appear to float on a lotus pond.
In the Area
The island of Koh Samui, or Samui as locals and regular visitors call it, has a history that spans more than 325 years. It was discovered by backpackers several decades ago, but since the 1990s it’s come into its own as a sophisticated enclave of excellent spas, dining, and nightlife. The Big Buddha Temple is its most famous landmark, and the 12-meter-high golden deity is visited by devout locals as well as tourists. The hotel can also arrange private long-tail boat tours to the Five Islands to see caves, beaches, and bamboo houses perched on high limestone cliffs, on islands that were until recently completely inaccessible to foreigners.
How to Get There
We stayed in the SALA Samui for 6 nights in a pool garden room. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome by every single member of staff, even the security guards were kind and welcoming.
The hotel offers a range of foods, treatments and activities: yoga, kayaking and paddling boarding to name a few. The recommend fab trips (x quad samui was brilliant well worth the trip).
The cleanliness of the hotel, continuous upkeep of the gardens and pools are of a high standard.
A large variety of foods for breakfast, and lunch. Wasn't overly keen on the BBQ buffet but that was down to preference and being overly spoilt in other local restaurants.
Could not recommend this hotel enough. Thank you to every single member of staff at the SALA, you completely make the whole experience and stay.
We stayed at Sala Samui for 10 nights as part of our honeymoon trip to Thailand. We had a garden pool villa and it was lovely! The staff at the hotel were brilliant, lots of little touches to make sure our stay was really special.
I am a vegetarian and the hotel was really flexible around this, there is a seperate veggie menu but they are more than happy to adapt Thai dishes to suit this too. We mainly ate in town as the hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from a range of restaurants and bars so there's lots to choose from.
I had a couple of massages at the spa and they were wonderful!
Amazing stay at Sala Samui Choengmon Beach Resort. Fantastic Hotel with excellent service. Most probably one of the best options on Koh Samui. Can be recommended both for couples and families. Hotel is located at the very nice an quite beach Choengmon. We will def. come back.
Only downside is the noisy air conditioning in the rooms. Far to loud comparred to today's standard. Hope the will fix it in time.
We stayed at Sala for 3 nights and had an amazing time. We had been traveling with our 3 daughters (13, 10 and 8) for a couple weeks through Thailand and it was a welcome break from our recent trek in Chiang Mei.
The resort is beautiful and the swimming pool and bar area is great. The beach is beautiful as well, but need to navigate a few rocks and some sea-grass in the shallow warm water.
Best of all for us was that the restaurant was absolutely delicious and so many gluten free options for our 8 year old daughter with Celiac. David, the head chef, was so accommodating and helpful. We learned that many Thai dishes are naturally gluten free and he showed us that she could eat ~75% of dishes during the Thai Buffet night. We are not big fans of all inclusive resorts (like the variety), but due to choice, we ended up eating all of our meals at Sala because the food was so good.
Only minor complaint is that the front desk / concierge was not very helpful with suggestions/recommendations on the island beyond the resort.
Absolutely love to come back!
Could not fault this hotel at all. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the hotel was great both Thai and European, they even have a little pizza restaurant up near the entrance. I went with my family including 2 teenage boys. They enjoyed both of the pools and exploring. Rooms are plenty big enough with private open air shower and bath. The room we were in had its own small pool which was great to just cool off in or just to play with the kids. Also on the beach here are some small local places to get a massage while you stair out to sea. It was all secluded enough to feel very private and quiet - a great place to stay.
