An intimate resort geared toward honeymooners and other travelers in the mood for romance (but also catering to families), Sala Samui has just 69 rooms, of which 53 are freestanding villas with private pools. The staff emphasizes privacy and personalized service, and romantic dinners for two or barbecues can be arranged on the beach or in guests’ villas. Thai and international chefs prepare meals in a variety of laid-back restaurants overlooking the 80-meter white-sand beach, ranging from the Thai favorites at the Beach Restaurant to Mediterranean delights at Pangaea, while a beachfront wine cellar houses an array of bottles from around the world. The spa, redolent with the scent of therapeutic flowers and spices, has four air-conditioned couples treatment rooms and four open-air salas (pavilions) that appear to float on a lotus pond.
In the Area
The island of Koh Samui, or Samui as locals and regular visitors call it, has a history that spans more than 325 years. It was discovered by backpackers several decades ago, but since the 1990s it’s come into its own as a sophisticated enclave of excellent spas, dining, and nightlife. The Big Buddha Temple is its most famous landmark, and the 12-meter-high golden deity is visited by devout locals as well as tourists. The hotel can also arrange private long-tail boat tours to the Five Islands to see caves, beaches, and bamboo houses perched on high limestone cliffs, on islands that were until recently completely inaccessible to foreigners.
How to Get There
The Sala Samui is the perfect place for a chilled out , relaxing holiday. The wonderful staff are friendly and helpful and the whole place has a peaceful, calm atmosphere. We stayed in a Garden Pool villa and loved the outdoor bathroom and the privacy of our pool area which had comfortable loungers and a shaded settee area for sun and shade throughout the day. The pool is more of a plunge pool , but the lap pool is great for serious swimming , is in a lovely setting and was never busy when we used it.
The bar and breakfast area has lovely views across the beach and the breakfasts were the best we have ever had. The amount of choice and the quality of the food was amazing!
It is the little touches that set this place apart - the specialist teas left in our room each evening, the attentive service etc.
We loved the location of the Sala as it was just off the main road through the village , so it was close to all the restaurants & small shops giving us lots of choice of places to eat in the evening , but a little oasis of peace in the resort itself. Turn right onto the beach and there were plenty more beach bars and eateries too.
The complimentary massage was a wonderful and much appreciated. We had been concerned about the building work taking place next door , but needn't have worried. We heard some faint drilling by the black lap pool in the afternoon, but absolutely nothing by the villas.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and would love to return in the future.
The check in experience was very smooth. The villa was exactly (a bit better) as expected, and displayed on the website.
The private pool was clean and very well maintained. The open shower and toilet space further enhanced the experience. Really enjoyed using the tub and all other villa facilities.
The beach was a bit disappointing, not as clean as expected. The restaurants ambience and setting was delightful, but the food menu was very limited. Furthermore, after 10:30 no good availability at the resort, which was kind of shocking. Almost all hotels/resorts offer room service 24 hrs.
Moreover, the breakfast was free, I got to the breakfast restaurant quite late. I was willing to Pay and order fresh breakfast from the All Day Breakfast menu, but I failed to explain that to the staff- maybe due to language barrier.
I wanted to order (and Pay) for waffles, but I was told they have run out during buffet service. That kind of did not make sense.
The french toast was also served very cold.
Yes they did not charge me for the breakfast, but it was not worth it for me.
During my trip to Samui, I failed to understand why these Expensive resorts and Restaurants dont invest in training of their staff.
Nice Facility—need to sort out the kitchen and food menu.
We love this place!
We were here as a couple couple of years ago and wanted to come back with our kids (1 and 4)
There are lots of reviews that describe the good parts about this hotel so I’ll focus on the kids aspect and about why this is perfect both for couples and for families.
There are two pools, one is adult only so if you want to chill quietly you go to that pool and you don’t get any splashes from the kids running around and if you come with your kids you don’t feel bad about your kids doing a lot of noise.
The hotel was fully booked but it didn’t feel like it. There were plenty of spare sofa beds by the pool and by the beach. I guess it’s because there aren’t too many villas in the hotel so it always feel intimate.
Breakfast was great and our kids loved it. Lots of options and you don’t get tired of it. (We stayed for a week)
The beach is calm and quite. Sand is a bit hard to walk on but nothing special. We took a kayak and sap many times from the hotel with our big kid and he loved exploring the beaches around.
The staff is GREAT and they genuinely love to accommodate to any need. It is not the same in other hotels in the island.
We loved the overall atmosphere! The complimentary fruits in the morning, the happy hour and the fact you can drink by and in the pool.
On the down side, there’s no kids club so I guess that if we got more rain we wouldn’t find ourselves to much to do with the kids. We took the garden pool villa and it’s great but the room was a bit crowded for 4.
Overall great experience and would definitely recommend this place for anyone in Samui
Time of break. 3 nights and then spontanously decided on another two.
Have the best breakfast and the most beautiful and spoiling rooms/villas.. and such a great service. We will come back. Hopefully soon.
My partner and I spent an amazing weekend at Sala recently.
Our pool villa was well appointed, very luxurious and had many small details that made it a very special stay.
We had all of our meals at Sala and from the fantastic service at breakfast to the wonderful service at dinner and the lunch in between Khun Oom and her staff really do a fantastic job.
We really had a relaxing getaway including beach time, kayaking and paddle boarding.
Our couples massage was the topping on the cake, professionally executed in a lovely setting.
Thanks to General Manager Dick and the whole team for a truly memorable get-a-way!
Strongly recommend this amazing resort!
