Chic beachside resort with modern Thai-style suites and villas

The Lowdown

An intimate resort geared toward honeymooners and other travelers in the mood for romance (but also catering to families), Sala Samui has just 69 rooms, of which 53 are freestanding villas with private pools. The staff emphasizes privacy and personalized service, and romantic dinners for two or barbecues can be arranged on the beach or in guests’ villas. Thai and international chefs prepare meals in a variety of laid-back restaurants overlooking the 80-meter white-sand beach, ranging from the Thai favorites at the Beach Restaurant to Mediterranean delights at Pangaea, while a beachfront wine cellar houses an array of bottles from around the world. The spa, redolent with the scent of therapeutic flowers and spices, has four air-conditioned couples treatment rooms and four open-air salas (pavilions) that appear to float on a lotus pond.

In the Area

The island of Koh Samui, or Samui as locals and regular visitors call it, has a history that spans more than 325 years. It was discovered by backpackers several decades ago, but since the 1990s it’s come into its own as a sophisticated enclave of excellent spas, dining, and nightlife. The Big Buddha Temple is its most famous landmark, and the 12-meter-high golden deity is visited by devout locals as well as tourists. The hotel can also arrange private long-tail boat tours to the Five Islands to see caves, beaches, and bamboo houses perched on high limestone cliffs, on islands that were until recently completely inaccessible to foreigners.

We had an amazing stay here. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - reception were very quick to respond when contacted and prepared a special birthday surprise for our arrival. There was a pillow and bath amenity menu to choose from. The spa treatment we had was amazing. The staff at the pool were very attentive. The rooms and facilities were in fantastic condition. Worth the price for sure!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sala Choengmon for 3 nights and could not say enough GREAT things about this hotel. I read tons of reviews and did a lot of research before booking our stay here in Koh Samui and I could not be happier with our decision. We stayed in a pool villa room which was super luxurious! I LOVED the outdoor bathroom which had a beautiful tub and outdoor shower. The hotel staff had also decorated our room as a beautiful surprise for us as we were celebrating our anniversary. The food at the hotel restaurant is amazing!! Best included breakfast, includes al la carte menu and breakfast buffet with a lot of variety and fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices. We loved the food here so much that we even ate dinner here twice! On Wednesday’s they offer dining tables on the beach which was very romantic!! Highly recommend staying at this hotel!!!

Fantastic hotel

My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic 7 night stay at Sala Samui Choengmon Beach.
We stayed in a Sala Pool Villa, which was a great choice. The bedroom was a good size and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was outside and included a large bath and separate shower. The bathroom area may be left open or enclosed in net curtains to keep out insects, additionally in the event of rain there are plastic curtains. We were a little concerned that mosquitos may be a problem, however the hotel has very vigorous pest control programmes and the rooms are also sprayed every evening. We had no issues.
Bottled water is provided in the room and replenished daily.
Outside the villa there are a couple of sunbeds and a covered day bed alongside the small swimming pool. The villa has complete privacy so if you want to throw your clothes off after a day of sightseeing and jump in the pool, there is no risk of exposure to your neighbours!.
In addition to the private pools, there are also two other swimming pools beachside, one of which is adult only, the other for families.
The beach itself is lovely, the sand is very clean and the hotel provide comfortable sunbeds on the beach with large permanent sun shades. The staff at the beach are very efficient and provide iced water throughout the day as well as occasional fresh fruit.
Breakfast was excellent, with a great choice of buffet items, together with a comprehensive menu of items cooked to order.
We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening, when they had a Thai Buffet evening and all the food was very nice, there was also some entertainment including local dancing and a fire show, which was impressive.
There is also a beach bar with happy hour between 2 and 3pm and 5 and 7pm, offering 2 for 1 cocktails.
Within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel there are plenty of places to eat, such as Mr Eung Restaurant, Pecore Nere and Krua Thai, were all very good and reasonably priced.
My wife and I both had a massage at the hotel spa, which were both very good.
The staff at the hotel are fantastic, at times you think you are getting preferential treatment and then realise that they treat every visitor the same. They really are all first class.
You can book tours through the hotel and we enjoyed a half day island tour with a driver from the hotel. In addition we booked a day to Angthong Marine Park, which is well worth a visit.
Overall this is one of the most welcoming hotels we have stayed and we would definitely stay here again if visiting Koh Samui.
