For a gloriously chic set-up on Sardinia’s southern coastline, this hidden gem just outside Carbonia has la dolce vita down to a fine art. Set 500 metres from the town centre and a 20-minute drive from the sparkling white sands of Sant’Antioco, Lu’ Hotel is the ideal base from which to explore the region’s star attractions – most famously the caves of Sulcis-Iglesiente.
Spend your days blissing out in the Zen-like spa, working up a sweat in the state-of-the-art fitness centre, and lazing on loungers by the dip-worthy outdoor pool. For discerning gourmands, the signature restaurant is currently overseen by Michelin-starred chef Gianluca Tore who presents a unique twist on gourmet Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Here you can enjoy buffet-style breakfasts, kick back with after-dinner cocktails, and savour excellent wines from the hotel’s walk-in cellar.
Why not time your stay to coincide with Sardinia’s annual Carnival, which reaches its headiest heights around Shrove Tuesday (28 February). Each village puts its own take on festivities, from the reinactment of a famous jousting contest and the burning of a “guy”, to eerie-masked horseriders and flamboyant processions.
How to Get There
Great hotel. Kind staffmembers who have no problem with talking English. This is often a problem in Italy. The Gym (with over 40 machines!) is perfect if you want to a good workout. Good pool to relax afterwards.
As a vegetarian/vegan their could be a little more options but they still had some choices. The only thing i missed at breakfast was Soymilk/yoghurt.
Excellent front office staff including Simona - who gave us lots of hints and tips about locations to visit, good beaches for time of year/weather and bars - Neb Cafe really nice place to chill out of an evening post a busy day sightseeing.
