The Lowdown

For a gloriously chic set-up on Sardinia’s southern coastline, this hidden gem just outside Carbonia has la dolce vita down to a fine art. Set 500 metres from the town centre and a 20-minute drive from the sparkling white sands of Sant’Antioco, Lu’ Hotel is the ideal base from which to explore the region’s star attractions – most famously the caves of Sulcis-Iglesiente.
Spend your days blissing out in the Zen-like spa, working up a sweat in the state-of-the-art fitness centre, and lazing on loungers by the dip-worthy outdoor pool. For discerning gourmands, the signature restaurant is currently overseen by Michelin-starred chef Gianluca Tore who presents a unique twist on gourmet Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Here you can enjoy buffet-style breakfasts, kick back with after-dinner cocktails, and savour excellent wines from the hotel’s walk-in cellar.
Why not time your stay to coincide with Sardinia’s annual Carnival, which reaches its headiest heights around Shrove Tuesday (28 February). Each village puts its own take on festivities, from the reinactment of a famous jousting contest and the burning of a “guy”, to eerie-masked horseriders and flamboyant processions.

At our checkin one of the beds was not ready and there were no blankets at all. It was 23:00 pm, traveling with kids.
At breakfast, more than an hour before closing there were not scrambled eggs, bacon,. This by the way was the only hot dishes, very poor. The staff at breakfast was not at the place for many minutes to warn them for replacing.Even the coffe machine was not working properly one morning. You have 2 machines and there was only one working and not well???.
We tried dinner one night. From the menu, we were informed there was nothing from the starters once we had decided not before. Also we asked for the fish of the day, once informed, we ordered three. After ten minutes the waiter is coming back informing there was only one. Incredible, what a poor atention, range of meals.
Lastly, we had an offer from Black Friday which included one spa day. We received an email from you several weeks before the staying. For our surprise, the staff at the reception told us it was not like that. We needed 2 days, arguing for gaining our rights.
As you can see, many different issues for a short time.
