Nice resort
Reviewed 3 days ago

If you wish to get away and find a quiet location, then this is it. It is nearly 45 minutes to an hour by car to reach the resort. We book thru Agoda for Airport to Resort transfer A$36 (850 Baht) and we did the same when going back to Airport. We didn't try Grab. At least it is a fix priced and didn't care if there was traffic or drive takes different roads etc.

Upon check-in, we already prepared 2,000 Baht per night x 3 nights stay for our deposit. The reason is I didn't want them to swipe my credit card. Sometimes, it takes too long to get the money release and I might have to pay for the deposit on the card depending on the credit card billing cycle. But the resort still wanted a photocopy of my credit card. Although, they didn't swipe my credit card, they got detail of my credit card, which is not good either. If that credit card photocopy lands with the wrong person, they can buy anything online. So, not happy about that. Obviously, the resort still wants a backup so they can still charge you after you check out in case they find any damage or use of minibar or stolen goods.

When we check-in at 3pm plus, the room was not ready, they had to decorate the room (which is fair enough) but they also offered us a complimentary tea time food and beverages at the Library. It was a very nice welcome indeed.

We celebrated our anniversary and my wife's birthday at the resort. The resort did a special decoration on the bed on our arrival and also another surprise decoration on the bed for my wife's birthday and a complimentary cake. Thank you so much.

We stayed at the ocean pool villa (room 29). We asked for the best view and most private room. Unfortunately it is not 100% private. The girl who escort us to the room actually mentioned, they got us the most private room (without me reminding them).
However, villa room 57 was right behind us and on a higher ground. They guest from that room could see us from their balcony to our pool area. Not good.

The main reason we chose Amatara was the size of the room, own pool, ocean front (great views) and supposedly private. We spend most of the time in our villa, so we need to feel comfortable. Unfortunately, it was not private enough.

The breakfast was included with the room rate. The food was good. We are happy with them. Good quality choices. Plenty of fruit choices and pastry. I must say, the pastry is fresh, well made, crispy, high quality each and every day we had them. I am thinking it is newly made or delivered fresh every day. Well done.

Perhaps we are staying on the ocean pool villa, we got 1 x complimentary tea time (beside the day we checked-in) and complimentary drinks at the Sun and Moon bar from 6-7pm each day. Upon check-in, we ask how many drinks do we get and the girl said 1 drink each but at the bar, it was un-limited drinks for 1 hours, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, it also came with small platter of food. We even overheard another couple who was surprised to find out, it was un-limited drinks. I think the front desk didn't know or didn't convey to the guest correctly. There wasn't many people at the bar, I don't think every guest gets the complimentary drinks or tea time unless they stayed at certain villa. I could be wrong.

The resort is clean, staff are friendly. There were mosquitoes in the room and definitely around the pool area. We were prepared with repellent, sprays and coils.

The resort is quite hilly, it would have been difficult for construction but it is well designed.

There is 7-11 nearby and some restaurants along the foreshore. The restaurant on the corner next to 7-11 is worth having. But it was not cheap but cheaper than the resort.

For A$550 a night, it is quite steep. But overall, good experience. Thank you Amatara, keep up the good work.

Amazing service

I stayed at this hotel for three nights during songkran (thai new year). Having stayed at many five star hotels before I can say this is exceptional. The staff all speak perfect English and are super helpful and pleasant. The food and service was exceptional I am looking to go back in June ... such a great place to relax and switch off an even as a solo traveller was very comfortable.

Stunning hotel - memorable holiday!

Overall this hotel is completely gorgeous. With amazing views, an incredible infinity pool, delicious breakfasts and friendly staff, there's no need to look elsewhere for your idyllic Thai break. Location is pretty remote and quiet, with a few walkable restaurants but not much nightlife, if that's what you're after. It's perfect for a romantic break, with a lovely spa and comfortable rooms. We were lucky enough to stay in a pool villa for 2 nights and it was so special to have our own private pool and terrace. The highlight was the obliging and kind staff. I incurred a minor injury whilst at the hotel and every staff member went above and beyond to ensure I was OK and well looked after :) We loved Amatara and would highly recommend the experience.

Fantastic stay

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Amatara as a solo traveller. It’s 1 hour from Phuket airport and at least 30 mins from anywhere bussly. You can hire a scooter just outside the resort if you’re as adventurous as I am for 300tbh/day or expect to be shelving out on pricey taxi fares whenever you want to venture out. The hotel itself is in a wonderful quiet location, has stunning views from all guest areas and staff very accommodating. I enjoyed all the complimentary services with my ocean view villa such as a 45 min massage, complimentary afternoon tea and a 55 min wellness session. There was also unlimited cocktails for select guests between 6 & 7pm making for enjoyable sundowns in the sun and moon bar. My room was nicely modern, had a stunning ocean view, a sizeable private pool and impressive bathtub. The sunrises were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen with the room flooded with hues of orange at 6am. The beach left much to be desired as you could only swim in it at high tide and it wasn’t the most picturesque. I’d recommend you venture out on a private tour to the surrounding islands like similan or koh phi phi for picture perfect white sand beaches that are great for snorkelling. I sadly had to deal with a minor injury and was taken care of my Amatara’s duty nurse and physio. Overall my stay was a memorable experience and I would definitely return.

Breathtaking Views

We had been planning on visiting Thailand for a while. Debated between Krabi and Phuket for the Oceanside part of our vacation. We preferred Phuket just for logistics. Although we looked at various resorts, what won us over was the fact that they had amazing ocean views, private infinity pool and a kids club.
They were very responsive with reservation, answering phone and emails. They are a bit far (1 hr) drive from the airport but provide complimentary transportation in a luxurious van. The van has good refreshments and a TV. Lobby is awesome with a big infinity pool. we enjoyed their welcome drink. The room was very spacious and so was the private infinity pool. We had the Bay view and dint feel that the ocean view would have made much of a difference. Walking to different areas of the resort can be a bit of a walk of it's hot but their buggy service is very fast and all you have to do is call.
Their evening drinks on the rooftop is great for enjoying the views, the drinks were complimentary with our room rate- however the service could have been more responsive. We dint explore the restaurants door dinner but the breakfast buffet spread was awesome. They have a convenient shuttle ( bit pricey) to local shopping and beaches and we used that. Their beach is small- we used that for some pics. I recommend booking ahead if you like their spa offerings. I missed out on their hammam service.
