Hotel Casa León
What We Love
- A brand-new, wellness-focused boutique hotel in southern Gran Canaria's secluded mountainsOpting for a massage under the shade of the outdoor pergolas, with views of the mountains
- Enjoying the magic of the Mediterranean dusk over dinner on the romantic, candlelit terrace
- Hitting a few rounds at the hotel's golf courses or practicing your swing on the clay tennis court
Hotel Casa León is a self-proclaimed haven of tranquility in the sun-dappled hills of Monte León, above the vast sand dunes of southern Gran Canaria. Family-run and hosted with a small team, this boutique retreat promises to return guests re-energized and rejuvenated. There’s a focus on wellness, and restaurant menus and cooking classes feature natural, local ingredients, ensuring a healthy and relaxing stay.
Opened in 2016, the property features a contemporary, open-plan design that allows nature and light to flow through, all the way to the terrace and sea-facing pool, where dinner is served. Secluded relaxation areas in the surrounding garden offer tranquil places to recharge, perhaps with a massage.
For more energizing pursuits, there’s a golf course, fitness center and tennis court, plus yoga, pilates, Nordic walking, water aerobics, back fitness, morning walks, stretching, body styling and Tai Chi. If that’s not enough to keep you occupied, mountain-bike and bike-helmet rentals are also available, and a daily shuttle bus allows you to explore nearby Maspalomas and the stretches of sandy coastline.
How to Get There
We stayed for 4 nights and had the best of times. Hosts and almost all other guests were from Belgium. The room was well appointed with a personal touch. Breakfast changed by the day and was both sumptuous and delicious. To get to the place was kind of tricky as one access road was under construction.
The only downside of staying at Casa León was the fact that you had to go elsewhere for lunch and dinner. Thankfully you could bring stuff and consume it in the breakfast area. You could even leave a small unit of perishables in the fridge. The bar was based on honesty and a selection of beer, wine and spirits were available.
With an infinity pool and a view between mountains towards Altea and the sea some fifteen miles away Casa Leon stands high on a winding path amidst lemon and almond groves and provides perfect peace and calm to the travellers fortunate to have booked rooms at this elegant B&B. Multilingual Tom and Ilse are perfect hosts, providing appetising breakfasts in the adjacent breakfast room that also serves as an honesty bar with a wide range of drinks and nibbles. Casa Leon is well placed for visiiting Bolulla (the nearest bar/restaurant) and picturesque Guadalest and the Fountains of Algar, as well as coastal resorts, the best of which is Altea
