The Review

On Panama’s Pacific coast, a short flight from Panama City, Seagullcove Lodge is on a hillside overlooking one of the hundreds of coves that define this stretch of Panama’s Chiriqui province. And since there are just five bungalows, you can enjoy all of it in privacy — or find yourself thinking of the charming staff and managers as your Panamanian family.

Built by an Italian architect, the five bungalows are like personal aeries for watching all the yachting and water sports activities on the bay below. It’s quite a backdrop, so the spacious rooms are smart but simple spaces, painted in tropical colors with luxe linens and bright throws, air conditioning and private balconies or terraces. {“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2900/prop-33498-1338313787-full.jpeg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”Boca Chica is growing in popularity for its unrivaled bird watching and deep-sea fishing.”}The wooden furniture is all made by local craftspeople using regional hardwoods — a natural, elegant look that highlights the lodge’s connections to its surroundings.

A series of steep steps lead from the bungalows down to the dark sand beach (better for walks than lounging) and the raft of outdoor activities found along Chiriqui’s gulf coast. For nature lovers there’s whale watching in the bay and unrivaled birdwatching, while sporty types can try sea kayaking and diving or snorkeling adventures at nearby reefs. Relaxation seekers can book boat rides to neighboring, uninhabited inlets, or simply lounge in a hammock in the tiki-style overwater bar.

Like the rest of the lodge, the restaurant looks to Italy for inspiration. Aside from the fresh seafood, some of Panama’s best beef is raised just inland from the lodge; the meltingly tender beef boscaiola is not to be missed. Seagullcove Lodge attracts a well-traveled clientele with stories to tell over cognac and cigars at the tiled bar. And, lest you forget the lodge’s remote setting in this little-explore patch of Panama, the odd howler monkey and the low rumble of night boats trolling through the bay will provide a gentle soundtrack .

What an incredible jewel! Completely relaxing and view inspiring. Sue and Jim really have made the Seagull Cove resort and wonderful place to experience and are great hosts. Melisa and Gustavo made every thing we needed happen seamlessly not to mention two of the nicest people you could ever meet. Food was great and reasonably priced, beer is cold :) and if you get a chance to get a massage Iris will turn you into melted butter.

Wonderful Experience!

After much research, from the moment I arrived and was met by Gustavo I knew I had made the right choice. Unique property with individual bungalows set at different levels above the pier you get a sense of having the best of both nature and comfort. Quiet and well run, you can tell that there is pride of ownership. This is confirmed when you meet Jim, the owner.
I took the sunset tour with the property's boat and its very patient captain (so very sorry that I can't remember his name, but there is only one!). He figured out that I like animals and went out of his way to give me a real thrill by allowing me to spend time with the dolphins and pelicans. Oh, yes, and the sunset was magnificent, too, until we had to speed back because of the heavy rain. Even then, he made a quick pit stop to show me some more birds nesting in a tree! Gustavo served the meals with a friendly professionalism and was always there to make sure that everything was fine (which it was).
There are many stairs to go down to the water but well worth it. If you are like me, just take your time to rest in between stages.

Perfect combination between nature and relaxation

Had a great weekend at Seagull Cove. This is a perfect hotel if you want to get far away of everything and just enjoy nature. The staff was really kind and our room was very comfortable and beautiful.

Upon arrival, we were met by the owner Jim. A very down to earth individual that will awaken the adventurer in you! His staff is attentive and very accommodating, they ensured we had everything we needed. Gustavo IS THE BEST! The property is quiet, cozy and promotes nothing but tranquility. It is travel without the frills or bells and whistles, just beauty on top of beauty!
